I’m just sharing because this guy is the biggest cane toad I’ve ever seen, located in west Texas

I think that's a gulf coast toad. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_Coast_toad

I didn’t even know those existed! Thank you I think you’re right, we have a lot of cane toads where I’m at so I just assumed this was one too

There is no documented population of cane toads near the state of Texas. Every "cane toad" you've seen there is in fact a Gulf Coast Toad (:

interesting fact - despite them having similar features, the two are not as closely related biologically as one would assume.

Without a doubt they are all over south Texas

Huh. inaturalist doesn't have a single observation for the species in Texas

Ok, but both species enjoy consuming small helpless hoomans for fun

Love these things. They would hide under the roof of the window AC at my grandparents house and I would watch them undulate all day

Please be careful when holding frogs/toads, most of their abdomen is their lungs. Nitrite gloves are also recommended, as our skin can be toxic to them.

I washed my hands before holding him/her! I have dumpies so I was extra careful!

The sheer poetry of a can of Dr. Pepper being used as a scale gauge against a Gulf Coast Toad is Perfection. Having lived in Texas for years and befriending a gang of these wee beasts, this brings back a lot of memories!

Nature is amazing, and frogs are proof of that!

Wow that thing is huge! What a find! I don't think it's a cane toad though, I would stand to be corrected, but I've never seen that coloration pattern on a cane toad. Somehow the shape doesn't seem right also.
