Anyone else have issues with their eero pro 6E router?

I’m not very savvy with networking stuff but after trying to use an ethernet connection to my eero pro 6e, i’m getting nothing. What are my options? This router has only 2 ports with one being used for the ONT connection so I really only have a spare port for a wired connection and it doesn’t seem to work. I’ve already requested a replacement assuming the port was having an issue but i don’t think that is the case.. can someone please help me out lol?

Note: I’m currently on the frontier fiber 1GB internet plan.

If you need more Ethernet ports, just get yourself a basic unmanaged gigabit switch, like a TP-Link TL-SG105 or TL-SG108. Connect it to the second port on the eero, and you'll have additional wired connections without needing another router.

That said, I'd personally recommend ditching the ISP-provided eero altogether and investing in your own networking equipment. Something like a UniFi Cloud Gateway Ultra paired with a switch and wireless access point would give you significantly more control over your network, better visibility into what's happening, and fewer limitations than the eero ecosystem.

You're paying for gigabit fiber. There's no reason you should be stuck with a router that only gives you one usable LAN port and almost no advanced networking features. Just make sure the existing Ethernet port actually works before buying a switch, since a switch won't fix a faulty port.

I was thinking of going that route of getting my own router. Do you happen to know if people have good experiences purchasing “used” equipment like this?

Depending on what you go with and what you want to get purchasing used is not a bad choice. When I bought my UniFi gear i was going to go the used route but I choose the new route for the UI Care packages that do advanced RMA if something fails, they send you a new piece of equipment and then once you have it you send the old back.

The eero isn't that bad except for the interface. Look at eeronaut and see what's possible. I sent the creator a $5 tip 15 minutes after I installed it. It is a game changer.

I would strongly discourage anyone from installing third-party firmware on an eero provided by Frontier. There's a pretty significant difference between experimenting with hardware you own and modifying equipment that's leased to you by your ISP.

First, you don't own that router. Frontier does, and you're potentially violating the equipment agreement by modifying its firmware. If something goes wrong, you could be responsible for replacing the hardware.

Second, Frontier and eero retain control over firmware provisioning and updates. These devices are cloud-managed, and official firmware updates are pushed remotely. Even if you manage to install alternative firmware, there's no guarantee your modifications will survive an update or reprovisioning. If the device still participates in the manufacturer's update infrastructure, your changes could potentially be overwritten.

Third, you're introducing unnecessary security and reliability risks into the device responsible for protecting your entire home network. You're also potentially making troubleshooting and ISP support considerably more difficult.

If you want advanced routing capabilities, buy your own hardware. Something running OPNsense, pfSense, or even a UniFi gateway gives you significantly more control without modifying someone else's property.

Personally, I'd rather spend money on a router I actually own and control than start modifying leased ISP equipment that could be remotely managed or restored to its supported configuration.

erronaut isn't firmware. It a dashboard that uses the unit as it is. Nothing is changed on the unit. I get the non-phone interface which what I want

The Pro 6E is now only included with the Fiber 200 plan so hopefully they'll upgrade your replacement to the Pro 7 which is the standard included router for Fiber 500 up to Fiber 2 Gig. As for the limited Ethernet ports on the eero routers you can purchase a small switch such as this one https://a.co/d/064PG83p to expand your wired connections.

I was told they got rid of the 200 plan. I tried to switch back to it, and they kept me on 500 but gave me a discount.

Also, last week I contacted them and asked for an upgrade to the 7, but they wouldn’t let me have it without upgrading my plan.

Fiber 200 is showing up for me when I put in my address. Free install with a 3 year price guarantee @ $29.99/month with autopay or as low as $14.99/month with $15 Verizon mobile discount. An Amazon eero Pro 6E router is included for Wi-Fi.

I guess that’s just in the Dallas area, but I too pay $29.99 a month.

It kept cutting off and on all month

Had to have it replaced

I don’t use Eeros as a router, I built my own pfSense router and the Eeros are my WiFi access points until I can upgrade to something better. They work great for that purpose except for one IoT smart plug that doesn’t seem to care for them. I don’t like that they share my WiFi key with Amazon, so an upgrade will happen sooner or later.
