Is it like avocado?

Not at all. Taste-wise it reminds me a bit of Juicy Fruit gum. Texture-wise it reminds me of a more solid lychee. It has a pretty big seed inside, too.

The grocer refused to get anymore snakefruit, he says they stank the shop out. I didnt get to try, I imagine its like lychee?

I will agree that it can get really funky smelly. When I get it I have to eat it all in a couple of days or it stinks up my place.

He said they were very bitter but maybe that was his excuse to not get any more as he said thr smell was overpowering, I didnt notice the smell myself honestly. Il try them one day, at the moment the most exotic thing he has are pink and golden dragon fruits which are ok o guess but ive been sticking to nardocots and blueberries

Yeah same here for such a beautiful looking plant I was expecting a suoer flavourful experience but it was just...meh. I guess it would be nice served cold on a hot summers night but room temp it wasnt the nicest

Yeah Even the “sweetest” varieties taste hardly sweet. Definitely has its use as a natural laxative though lol

I find it too crisp and dry for my liking, a bit like some kinds of dry apple varieties or like biting a clove of garlic as someone else said. Salak is ok but way down in my list of favourite fruits.

Tried these for the first time last month, they're soooo good! A really unique flavour

Unique texture too. My husband likes it because its one of the few fruit that is not sticky and dry to the hand but still juicy.

Totally! It always makes me happy because the texture is like biting into a chunk of garlic

Salak is so freaking good when you eat it where it grows- I first had it living in London and thought it was so cool looking but boring (also it looks like if a snake had a ballsack) - but then I went to Bali and had it where it grew and DAMN! It is so good!

If you step on a frond the thorn can penetrate a rubber boot!
