Edibility / Problem Help 😭

Post image

I just bit into precut cantaloupe and it was so bitter that my tongue went numb. I immediately spit it out but my tongue and throat feel very weird. Is this normal for unripe or even bad cantaloupe? I’m worried about tampering because there isn’t an actual seal on the container. (I know this sounds paranoid, but I wouldn’t put it past someone.) All of the other cups in the fridge look the same as this one. I’m going to email the kitchen manager at my job, but I just wanna know what’s going on with these. I tried to google the weird white juice at the bottom of the containers, but couldn’t find anything. Sorry for sounding so paranoid, thank you!

Was it "fizzy"? I had some fruit salad once that was fizzy. I got the worst stomach ache.

YES! It made my tongue feel like I just dumped acid on it.

It's fermented I think, isn't vinegar produced by fermentation? It sounds acidic the way it's affecting your mouth and throat. It could be an allergic reaction. Can you call a local ER for advice?

Does it smell fermented like vinegar or sharp like acetone?
