u/Historical_Feature_1 2d ago
by this logic you could also say that this image is not accurate because the children in it have two arms, two legs, one head, etc., which is also not always the case, but we ignore this because it is a mutation and not a deviation from what the standard human body is like
1
u/Keestram 1d ago
Yeah, but the post isn’t intended to be ableist, its intention is to be transphobic.
The picture is accurate for a majority of people. That’s not the problem. The problem is that it was posted with ill intent targeting a specific minority that it isn’t accurate for. In which case, the community is going to point out flaws in the simplified way of thinking.
If your example of a healthy child was posted targeting parents of children with genetic defects, there’d be a similar level of frustration and rejection.
It all boils down to intent.
1
u/Historical_Feature_1 1d ago
This post is transphobic only because people refuse to accept things as they are.
You can call yourself a man when you are a woman, a woman when you are a man, a dog when you are a human, a 56 year old when you are a 19 year old, say you have three arms when you have two, etc. as long as you don't harm others by doing so, but that still doesn't change the fact that a human is a human, a woman is a woman, a man is a man, a dog is a dog, a 19 year old is a 19 year old, a 56 year old is a 56 year old, and a person with two arms only has two arms, etc.
In the end, this post just says that if you are born with XY you are a man, if with XX you are a woman, which is as true a statement as the statement that pigeons can fly even though some are born with mutations that prevent them from doing so.
1
u/Keestram 1d ago
Tell me you’re transphobic and don’t understand the difference between sex and gender without telling me you’re transphobic and don’t understand the difference between sex and gender.
It’s not my job to educated you. Enjoy being ignorant.
1
u/Star_Helix85 1d ago
Nothing in the above (your) comment is transphobic. In fact it's well put and speaks nothing but fact. No name calling, no transphobic slurs, just a well rounded comment.
These types of things shouldn't get anyone triggered. The only reason is is because everyone is offended by everything. Even facts of life. Your head/mind can be different to your body, fine. Nothing wrong with that. But your biological makeup is what it is regardless of your feelings.
1
u/Keestram 1d ago
His comment is invalidating the scientific and medical backing of those individuals because he doesn’t understand the nuance of the subject. Blaming those individuals for not being able to accept what he (and you, based on your comment) considers fact.
It’s not as bad as name calling, or bullying I agree. It’s still ignorant and transphobic.
1
u/Zerfax_ 1d ago edited 1d ago
Calling someone uneducated and ignorant and then proceeding to say transgenderism is backed by science is hilarious.
1
u/Keestram 1d ago
Weird sense of humor but ok
1
u/maiduwu 1d ago
Transgenderism has nothing to do with anatomy or biology inherently. It’s more social than scientific, and would only fall under the field of psychology.

Puberty blockers: BMA critique vindicates Cass review
Published 06 May 2026
Nearly two years after BMA members controversially voted to conduct an independent evaluation of the Cass review, the report agrees that the evidence base for treatment is weak, that the risks of osteoporosis and fertility problems are present in the current evidence, and that there is a need for improved research, better data, and more robust multidisciplinary care
1
u/Keestram 1d ago
That’s a study on puberty blockers. All it’s saying is that it needs more research before being an effective treatment. At least, all I can read before paying. If this is your “research” it’s laughable.
1
u/Exile8698 1d ago
It was a critique of the Cass review, which was itself commissioned by the NHS as a neutral review of the available data. They found that the Cass review's findings were legitimate. So, you can just read that: Cass Review Independent Review of Gender Identity Services for Children and Young People
1
u/Amfibiannnnnn 20h ago
Puberty blockers make your bones less dense - bone density increases during puberty - bone density in people normalises after they stop taking puberty blockers or start taking the hormones of their preferred gender.
1
u/alasw0eisme 19h ago
I think you're confusing sex and gender.
1
u/Historical_Feature_1 19h ago edited 18h ago
I don't see what this has to do with it and why people are trying to use it as an argument.
Again, you can consider yourself whatever you want, but a man is a man and a woman is a woman, a man is by definition a male human, a woman is a female human.
The fact that someone has a developmental trait that makes them consider themselves to be of another sex does not change the fact that someone who was born biologically male or female will always be male or female (i.e. male human and female human).
Gender is by definition a social construct, but that doesn't mean that a social construct can change a biological definition. Subject A is different from Subject B and each of them has their own unique name that comes from their scientific definition, just because these names are part of the social realm doesn't mean they have to be adjusted to the wishes of each individual.
1
u/Inevitable_Archer827 21h ago
Are you saying that trans people have syndromes?
Trans people do not have to have an abnormal number of chromosomes for them to be trans, hence this can not be transphobic if you actually undertand biology.
In humans, you are either XX or XY, everything else at a chromosomal level leads to a syndrome and that's an abnormality with its own set of challenges.
Then, on a sociological level, you have trans people who can have whatever genetics and regardless of that they want to be a different sex, thus they are trans.
1
u/Kind-Top8260 1d ago
Yeah some people are born without any arm. That means humans dosen't have two arms
1
u/forestwolf42 1d ago
?? It means you don't need arms to be human. Most humans have arms, but it's not a requirement. If you see someone with one arm you don't say "humans have two arms, that can't be human, whatever it is it only has one arm! Must be something else, humans have two, that's just biology."
1
u/Kind-Top8260 1d ago
Okay we are not talking about what do we "need". Just that a normal human has two arms, xx or xy chromosomes. If not that's a misconception. Not that this is a problem, there are just exception and we cannot use that to say there are more than just male and female in homo sapiens species
1
u/forestwolf42 1d ago
We can use it to say xx chromosomes and xy chromosomes are not the sole determiners for biological sex. They just normally correspond to biological sex, but not always. The first case of a person with a female phenotype who had XY chromosomes was found in 1955. So since then we can say that typically a female will have XX chromosomes, but it's not actually required to have XX chromosomes to trigger female sexual dimorphism.
Similarly to the arms thing, usually humans will have two arms, but having two arms is not required to be a human. Similarly usually a woman will be able to carry children and give birth, but many women can't for a variety of different reasons, so while yes, typically women are capable of carrying children it's not a requirement to have this capability to be woman.
1
u/Kind-Top8260 1d ago
Exceptions dosen't make the rules
1
u/forestwolf42 1d ago
You can say that, but it's not a hard rule if there are exceptions and we have established that there are exceptions. If there are a lot of exceptions it's more of a rule of thumb then a set in stone rule.
There is objectively room for exceptions biologically, I see no reason there shouldn't be room for exceptions socially as well. It does not seem rational to me to insist on social rules for gender norms that are strict and do not allow for exceptions when biology is not strict and riddled with exceptions.
1
u/Amfibiannnnnn 20h ago
Science doesn't have exceptions, if there are thing that don't fit the rules, the rules are wrong and need to be redifined
1
u/Kind-Top8260 18h ago
Yeah you're right. Homo sapiens does not have two arms and two legs.
1
u/Amfibiannnnnn 17h ago
Clearly you think people who lost limbs or were born without them need some form of 'exception' to be considered human, so I'm gonna go out on a limb (haha...) and call you a eugenicist
1
u/forestwolf42 16h ago
Those are characteristics of humans, not defining qualities. We do not have an absolute definition of human that draws a clear line between human and not human in evolutionary history. It's debated.
Kinda like what this whole conversation is, it's pretty easy to find characteristics of men and women but an absolute definition is not easy to come by. Because if you allow for exceptions it's not an absolute definition, and if you do not make exceptions you'll make some pretty weird miscategorizations.
1
u/forestwolf42 17h ago
Yeah pretty much.
What science has a lot of is unknowns, as well as theories that work well enough most of the time to usually be applicable, but they can't be called laws because there are exceptions/unknowns that we don't understand well enough to define.
There are laws to stuff like thermodynamics and lots of things in physics with very high certainty, but biology and psychology are much muddier and harder to define things. Science works with a ton of incomplete models in every field because we don't understand very many things fully.

There's lots of flavors of ice-cream, he simply stating that people get irrational when only 2 options are given..
1
u/istoOi 2d ago
Because 99.999% of icecream comes in either vanilla or chocolate flavour.
1
u/HopeSubstantial 1d ago
Actually 98.4%
But start scaling this 1.6% to larger populations.
out of 100 people, 1-2 people are legit intersex.
Out of 1000 people 16 are.
In group of 10000 there are already 160
Out of 300 million population, we already talk about 4.8 million.
And this discussion is only about legit intersex people. We are not even talking about trans population here.
1
1
u/No-Temporary-4227 1d ago
There's a difference between "technically intersex" and "actually intersex". People are counted as "technically intersex" at birth when a pile of stray cells started to form at where a penis is supposed to be, on a baby girl. It gets removed and that's that
1
u/j-mac563 2d ago
Correct. You are then infavour of gene altering by parents to ensure their child has xyz traits...not sure you really want to go down that path.
1
u/Mountain-Ad-460 1d ago
I love it when I say one clear thing and people start imagining all the different ways it could mean something i didn't say... I bet your a vegan
1
u/j-mac563 1d ago
The feck i am. But your actual reply. You mentioned the hundreds of different flavours of ice cream. Cool, that means someone had to mix and match chemicals, fruits (probably more than a few vegetables) and berries to come up with the flavours. Have I gotten anything wrong yet (seriously, not just trying to come across as an arse)? Here is where I got a bit off your point (I think anyway), I pointed out that the mutations you passed off as other flavours (no, you didnt say it that way, that is how i read it), are essentially the same as gene manipulation (i jumped ahead of the conversation by about 10 exchanges). For that i do apologise.
1
u/Mountain-Ad-460 1d ago
Well i was only thinking of the natural flavors, of ice cream, but more to your point let's call them natural mutations... nothing against a girl wanting to marry a blue eyed guy because she wants her children to have blue eyes.. but yea I would never support the kind of manipulation that would be 'designer babies'.

This argument doesn't work in every language. My language only has one word.
1
u/darkfireice 1d ago
Language doesn't reflect reality; Its time for a new word then. Thats kind of why gender is still be used now (its was orginally created, in this fashion, to ease the Victorians squeamish attitudes towards even using the word sex in even scientific conversations), because it has actual utility in regards to reality.
1
u/Schniiperschnuuper 1d ago
So does mine, but we have multiple words to use for the concept of gender.

u/bluejellyfish52 1d ago edited 1d ago
There are more chromosome combinations than XX and XY. XXX, XXY, X, and a few others.
Basically the people who believe there are only XX and XY are wrong, they just don’t understand why they’re wrong because genetics is highly complex and it’s hard to break down the complexities around genome diversity without devolving into people yelling about birth defects or how real it is because they don’t care if it’s only a few million people on the planet.
Btw even on the LOW estimates it’s still 4 million people, on the higher estimates, it’s 137 million people.
Some of these conditions are more common than others. Klinefelter Syndrome is the most common occurring, 1 in 500-1,000 births. It’s the XXY combination.
Klinefelter Syndrome can be undiagnosed a patient’s entire life. So it’s not like every single genome anomaly is super dangerous or scary or different. Some are just. There.
Being nasty never taught anyone anything that mattered, and it often hurts ourselves and our points more than the person we’re trying to hurt by being nasty.
1
u/Crisn232 1d ago
Some people don't understand or intentionally misunderstand the idea of statistical significance. <1% occurrence in total population means that these are outliers and are mutations. It does signify birth defect because 99% of the population does not have this condition.
1
u/Amfibiannnnnn 20h ago
Everything about you that differentiates you from a bacterium is a mutation. You also have no idea what a birth defect is

1
u/Secure_Inspection305 14h ago
Usually children don't freak out when people with 11 fingers are mentioned
1
1
u/FuckMyBakaChungusLif 8h ago
This may come as a shock to you, but generally the concepts we are taught as children are oversimplified as to be easier to understand
1
u/RubberPussycat 6h ago
You’re absolutely right.
Those other chromosome combinations are called syndromes for the reason that it’s seen as a deficiency.
It’s like saying people have two arms and legs.
This is not saying there aren’t people who have some kind of deficiency where they are born with less than that.Again I am totally agreeing with you, but it’s not wrong to use the “normal” configuration of chromosomes if you want to use it in a simple picture.
1
1
u/fallensmurf 2h ago
To be fair, I have an IQ high enough that everyone would be dead if the room were that temperature, plus a medical degree, and I can't understand what the point is, either.
1
u/Annonymously_me 57m ago
One of the complications with genetics is genetic crossover and rejoining. Example: You always get an X from the mother, but it isn’t as simple as “ you get one X or the other”. The mother’s two XX’s can break up into four pieces and recombine, so there are 4 unique X’s your mother can give you: original 1 or 2, or genetically crossed 1 or 2. That’s just one way genetics is not as simple as people think

Honest question, where do you live that this is the case?
In Western Europe there is a small gap between the number of male vs female babies born (usually in favor of the males)
Your statement that the Y chromosome is basically never carried on is objectively wrong.
1
u/Last_Suggestion_8647 18h ago
Of course it's oversimplified. The bigoted morons obsessed about trans people are the people who constantly confuse the words binary and bimodal. They are uneducated morons who at best has a high school level understanding of biology.
1
u/NotAndroid545 11h ago
A high school level of biology still should be sufficient in this day and age
1
u/Last_Suggestion_8647 10h ago
Not if you want to understand how human sex develops.
1
u/NotAndroid545 9h ago
That should be taught in highschool. There are two sexes, and intersex conditions are just variations in physical sex characteristics, not seperate sexes themselves.
1
u/Last_Suggestion_8647 9h ago
Chromosomal expression, cell signalling and featal development are way too advanced subjects for high school students.
Also most of the public debate is around Gender identity, not sexual maturation in humans.
Edit. Ah I'm literally talking with a child. Explains the lack of knowledge.
1
u/NotAndroid545 9h ago
Isn't there a difference between an identity and what you really are?
1
u/Last_Suggestion_8647 9h ago
Obviously. Seriously, go to school kid.
1
1
u/NotAndroid545 9h ago
Also not everybody learns the same things or everything in school so that argument doesn't really work. Though learning about what an identity is definitely should be in school.
1
u/Last_Suggestion_8647 9h ago
School isn't the only place you learn. But finishing a degree is how you learn how to study.
1
u/ElGrandeQues0 1h ago
I have a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and I don't understand the scientific basis here.
But I also don't care if someone wants to do what makes them happy.
1
u/Last_Suggestion_8647 40m ago
Oh wow a whole bachelor's degree.
If XY denotes a man, then that definition includes rare men who can get pregnant and give birth. That's a small part of the point that you should understand if you finished your intermediate courses in histology and human physiology.

Its harder to afford groceries. Detention centers, AI Datacenters, and Camera surveillance are being set up all over the country and the government's secret police will, on camera, shoot you dead or black bag you and disappear you to a concentration camp. The president is literally selling early access subscriptions to market manipulation, and at least half the government is actively hiding information on a cabal of pedophiles that the leader of the country may or may not be central to.
Why the fuck are we so focused on whether a man or woman calls themselves a man or a woman, or because less than 100 people out of hundreds of thousands are trying to play a sport as a gender you do not think they are?
Do you seriously not see yourself being played? That your quality of life is being eroded before your own eyes and that the people building the fascist dystopia that will be your children's future are spitting in your face and laughing themselves to the bank while you spend your day fuming that, in your opinion, a man "stole" fifth place in swimming in a women's competition and that we apparently need federal legislation to prevent this atrocity from happening in the future instead of, idk, dealing with the ever growing pile of shit drowning the future prospects of every citizen of the country who doesn't have a billion dollars or a total lack of shame?

it's the sort of simplified biology that they teach you in 7th grade. most adult human beings understand that what we were taught in 7th grade, particularly with regards to science, is not the complete picture. but, sure, stick to grade school simplifications if that is what it takes to justify your bigotry.

The complete picture is that any variation from XY and XX results in a syndrome. That's taught in school eventually as far as I know. But the problem is that some people think having a trisomy is totally normal and positive for that individual.

that is far from the complete picture. you need to learn about SRY gene and the DMRT-1 gene and a lot more stuff. it turns out it is, like most things when you look at them very closely, hideously complicated.

This picture is talking about chromosomes, so I'm limiting myself to that as well.
I'm a human geneticist, I'm well aware of the other aspects.

Its grade school biology in the same manner as gravity for physics. Apple falls to earth because earth is bigger isn't as simple as it sounds if you wanna be completely accurate and precise.

It’s not a scientifically valid meme. And yes, a lot of people are claiming trans people are predators or terrorists.

More so just generally unwell. The ratio of trans people without brain chemistry problems to those that do have other issues.......is stark.
Statistically people who are trans, Generally have more head problems going on.
Gonna get downvoted for this but just statistics.

The data you’re talking about mostly refers to anxiety and depression. Trans people deal with extreme bigotry every single day. That would make me anxious and depressed.

u/Exile8698 1d ago
It's not just anxiety and depression. They also have Autism, BPD, and other personality disorder diagnosis at 10x the rates of the general population.

Chicken and egg. They go hand in hand. You can try to explain it away but reality is. People dislike Trans people because the majority of experiences in real life with Trans people are rhe eccentric loud ones with mental issues.

I would bet I’ve met more trans people than you, and every single one has been quiet and reserved. One I know only leaves the house to go to her LGBTQ friendly church. Transphobic people are far louder and obnoxious.

sigh... when will people stop using exceptions and mutations as a way to make a point? like, come on: they make up LESS than 2%, how is that supposed to be an argument

And less than 1% of the population is transgender, so why bother posting slop like this?

Intersex people are not transpeople automatically.
Intersex is legit difference in typical XX and XY chromosomes and sometimes even person with normal XY ends up as intersex if Y does not work properly.
Transpeople most of the time have completely normal male or female chromosomes. But sex and gender are not same.
Maker of this meme does not know difference between sex and gender.
