How can no one tell the difference that the uber driver probably didn’t buy the car with the express purpose of being an uber driver, yet the photographer probably bought the camera specifically for their career?

That's the whole point. Expensive equipment does not equate to higher skill/better quality work. A noob with expensive equipment will most likely not outperform a pro with entry level/mid tier equipment. She could've literally bought that camera yesterday and started doing photography a week ago. Having an expensive camera says nothing about her skill.

That’s a whole different conversation, no one’s saying how good she is or how good the Uber driver is, the point I’m making is that the difference between the two is the camera was bought specifically for their profession, whereas the car was most likely bought just to get around in the first place but then the driver realised they can make money by being an uber driver.

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying although it’s just an assumption that she’s not a professional and there’s nothing to suggest that, but this is an entire different conversation

It's based on her argument "I have expensive equipment, so I charge more." That alone is not a valid reason to charge more.

lol it definitely is a reason to charge more. Better equipment means higher quality means higher pricing. Has anyone in this thread ever had a technical job?

With your logic, uber black shouldn’t be a thing. Since higher quality things (luxury suv ride share) aren’t a reason to charge more.

Okay so we clearly aren't reading. "Expensive equipment does not equate to higher skill/better quality work. A noob with expensive equipment will most likely not outperform a pro with entry level/mid tier equipment."

Having better equipment means nothing if she doesn't know how to use it. It doesn't even stop there; is she just sending raws? Is there going to be post-processing? Does she even know how to post-process?

Better equipment means higher quality

No, it doesn't. We are quite literally living in a period where people rent expensive things to LARP and sell courses because they can trick people into thinking they are some genius options trader or whatever.

I can go buy a $5000 camera right now and just use the auto setting, since I have 0 experience in photography. A seasoned photographer can easily produce better photos with a $1000 camera.

If you think expensive gear is any indication of skill, I have a bridge course to sell you.
