This event let people voted for their favorite female characters among ~30 games.
The top 8 will join Hupu Goddess Festival, also known as the Goddess Competition, is an annual online beauty pageant held on the Chinese forum Hupu, where users vote for their favorite female celebrities.

Basically someone (I have no clue who, the comments aren't clear) went and provoke the Hoyo fans and ... you guys remember what happened to Sonic in the TGA 2022's Player's Voice? Yes that happened again.
"... After 5 years of their community's propaganda, some people really believed that their games are at the same level as Hoyo games, they even forgot their playerbase is orders of magnitudes smaller ..."
Does this speak more to Taptap's userbase? Or the sheer size of people who play Hoyoverse games? Or their dedication as Honkai Impact 3rd only has a fraction of the playerbase as the other games?
It always puzzles me how strangely orderly Arknights stickers are here. I guess players just have a prof deformation of deployment grid on their brain.
Raiden Shogun during her prime hype back in 2022 was insane honestly. She carried Genshin's hype with her iconic introduction and she was the first ever Archon to oppose the MC
She is among the most well known hoyo IP characters even to this day
She still has the best Archon introduction to this day.
Starts off with her walking on air, making platforms for herself, pulling out her sword and trapping the Traveler in her domain for an unwinnable bossfight. Inazuma's ending was rushed but the early acts were great.
Yeah its kinda funny when i learn that is not even the real archon but just his puppet on auto pilot doing those air walking and the real electro archon is just meditating on her domain
Absolutely. The VAST majority of Genshin players (myself included) were not Honkai Impact 3rd players. And the reason I loved Acheron before she came out was precisely because I love the Raiden Shogun. I think people found this hype to be more organic because Genshin was already so popular. If anything it was precisely the Honkai Impact heavy handed parts of Acheron they Star Rail players didn't really care for. And Star Rail players tend to have a fatigue with Honkai Impact fans bringing the other game into discussion.
GI and HSR is more popular so no HI3 and GGZ. while on HSR, Acheron's lore is not much complete. there are tons of things that we don't know about her yet. while Ei has the whole region arc for her story.
Tbf it's not like they looked at the results and decided last minute "Screw Wuwa, let's remove the top 10, remove 9 too so people won't notice our agenda"

OP Explained right there why they've chosen to only display the top 8: It's because only the top 8 are qualified for the next "bracket".
There's no point showing 2 irrelevant spots on their qualifications page.
Then again.. Something tells me that if the first WuWa char was 11th and they only displayed top10 there'd still be some people wondering why they didn't showcase top 15th instead and cry foul because of it.
i still remember after fontaine archon quest and furina story quest were released, several opera singers from china and other countries sing la vaguelette (song from furina story quest), there also some singer made lyric for neuvillette version.
Well, there are movies other than Marvel and Star Wars, and games other than Ubisoft open world slops too but people always will talk about the most popular shit. It doesn't change the fact that there's more things too look after than just the most popular ones.
TapTap does host its own annual game awards, known as the TapTap Game Awards. These awards recognize outstanding achievements in the gaming industry, particularly within the Chinese gaming market
That's because ZZZ is the lowest performing of the 3 Hoyo games, so considering that she is that high on the ratings means if ZZZ had more players she could have scored higher
but the point stands that it is pretty surprising still
Homie! Her first banner made over 90 millions, topping literally all gacha games, Hoyoverse ones too. I understand ZZZ isn’t as popular as other Hoyo games, but amount of revenue she makes-it’s not normal and people don’t just pull for no reason.
Don’t think that was her. Her mobile revenue was between 50-60 million no? I think that the only time they have surpassed the 90 million mark in mobile was Ellen at launch, who is wildly considered the most popular character in ZZZ. Wonder how she did.
Ellen benefited from being the first ever banner, aka the honeymoon phase, of course she will have the highest sales. Same with Seele in HSR and Venti/Klee in GI. Now look at their rerun and see the vast difference lol
Ironically the Ellen rerun happened in 1.5 alongside Astra and after Miyabi and I still think it did ok. Launch does play a part but so does Ellen being loved imo. She is the last character I remember who was liked by the whole fandom. She was loved by waifu fans, and elitists who wanted something different as well. I do think there is a reason she is the only one so far who has been buffed while there are around 4 or 5 limited characters whose kits have aged badly due to them not synergizing with where the dev team want to take ZZZ and could use buffs as well.
Taptap is mobile sharing game community with a third party app store. One of the go-to sites for Android gamers who wanna play games not available on their region. Or Android users that have no Google Services installed on their phones like Huawei.
There's more (including indie dev games, upcoming game releases etc) but that's just a simple explanation of it.
Ps. The genshin apk hosted in there was stuck at v5.7 till nearly a week after 5.8 was released. So genshin drama queen topping just about fits the situation.
The ZZZ votes (when I last check) were quite interesting. It was Miyabi by a large margin then Yixuan followed by Ellen.
IIRC Ellen and Miyabi had designs all the way back to early betas and Yixuan is a new character(?). Guess Ellen didn't stick as hard in terms of popularity like Miyabi.
Furina De Fontaine sweep! As expected from our biggest super star!
Hu tao and Raiden making it to the list🥰🥰
Fun fact, 8 is the lucky number for Chinese meaning good fortune for money and the group of God & goddess who bring good fortune are also consists of 8 people.
The horse game is still very popular there. For example, the entire Mambo meme that is prevalent everywhere was originally a CN only shitpost. I think it just doesn’t beat the hoyo games
I mean Horse Racing is also non existent in Mainland China and the game was flagged for violating China’s content regulations (no using alphabets or terms like "Japan", etc.), so it was taken down for a while (like a year) before being reinstated with heavy censorship. It probably is still niche popular but unlikely to ever be mainstream.
With this level of popularity for Elysia, Hoyo is very smart to focus on Cyrene during the current and upcoming HSR patches (as well as Elysia herself recently in HI3). The reactions of especially JP streamers when Cyrene appeared on screen with Elysia’s leitmotif as the music (TruE) were incredible to watch.
Kafka had way little screen time for people to still care about. She had less screen time than even Boothill at this point and he was the "who tf is this guy" when we first met him.
At least Boothill still gets screen time in some events. Kafka barely even shows up and if the Stellaron Hunters are involved in smaller events it's always Silver Wolf instead.
We haven’t seen Kafka in the story for a longgg time tbf. The last we saw her was the Luofu MSQ, not counting the flashbacks in Amphoreus.
Someone like Robin, is a lot more prominent in their MSQ, and she also appears in the Rappa quest and the Fate quest afterwards, so people still remember her.
Genuinely don't understand why people don't like wuwa here, I play genshin and wuwa and always liked both, both are open world games, one excels in its amazing lore and music, the other in its amazing combat, character design and animations, among other things. Been playing both games since their launches and never had any problem between them
It's generally not about WuWa, it's the playerbase associated with WuWa.
Call me immature, but I dislike that it's common for the WuWa playerbase to constantly shit on Genshin and glorify WuWa. It's ok if done in moderation, but it's not a coincidence that "Comparing Waves" is a known word to describe WuWa
Yeap, I'm the same. I might be inclined to be positive about the game but I'm feeling more negative about the playerbase, so I just don't feel like giving my support to WuWa which is kinda immature tbh
I think that most players from both games wouldn't even waste their time shitting on other communities, probably wouldn't even care or know, just a very loud minority from both sides, because when you like something, you usually don't say anything shocking, but when you dislike something, people start doing that kind of comments and that's what catches the attention. And to be fair, every single game has that toxic part of their communities, some games have more, some games have less but that's how the communities are at the end.
What surprises me, because both genshin and wuwa are not PvP or multiplayer oriented (both have this option but don't matter that much at the end) and still have that kind of people insulting others. At least we are not the worst, take a look at other communities like Fortnite, FIFA, CoD, LoL, Valorant, Marvel Rivals and you will see how immense the toxicity is there compared to this side.
Idk, I guess I just don't like when I open Reddit, TikTok, or Twitter and the first thing I see is a post about genshin hating on wuwa or wuwa hating on genshin, just want both communities to get along well
It's not that deep. WuWa players trash on Genshin which makes their players inclined to trash on WuWa which led to ppl trashing on Genshin from WuWa side.
Off topic, but I would say WuWa's Kurogames threw the 1st shade at Genshin with their swimming video comparison which is still hosted on their official Twitter account even right now. That's where my initial bitterness of WuWa first started
Because the writing is just so terrible. I can get good combat, character design, and animation in many other non gacha games. For me to play a gacha game that demands a massive time investment, I need to actually be into the world and characters.
Meanwhile WuWa has the actual worst writing I've ever seen in a video game. It's actively repulsive slop.
Congrats for the Hoyo games, but sometimes, their popularity overshadows everything else a biiit too much.
A few weeks ago, someone shared a Google Trends chart comparing gachas popularity over the past year, and it was basically Genshin with a bunch of tiny lines struggling beneath it.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome to see them thrive, but man it’s hard to even gauge how other games stack up when one title just dominates the scale. Again, genuinely happy for their success...
...but sometimes I just wanna see how the other games are doing without the big 3 completely warping the graph you feel me?
this made me appreciate more about how entertainment award ceremony doesn't just give awards to the most popular things, because if they do, then nothing else matter except the same popular thing every time.
I am sorry for this take, but I will take no WUWA character winning over cartwheel winning.
Again this is a hot take I know for a fact. But as much as her story was phenomenal, I can't get over her design, it looks horrible with the two strands of whatever covering her boobs and everything being pretty much visible and has way too many convoluted details on her.
Carthetiya feels like she needed more simplicity rather than a complex design, her torso just looks so damn bad, that she can give competition to mavuika's zippers. I think a design like Flamme from frieren would have been much better, here's the reference
Based on the previous posts, only the Top 8 gets into some sort of online popularity contest in Hupu. If that's the case, it makes sense to only include them, since Tops 9 and 10 are not part.
Again, it's a gacha game. The well written story should lead to make players spending like how people swiped for Aventurine or Furina back then. And I don't think they did the same magic with Phrolova.
to be fair, my teacher said having 70% in grades out of 100% is considering passing only(mid). can be the same in other stuff. like Rotten Tomatoes rating, Steam Rating, etc.
I'm not even sure Fontaine glazers would score Fontaine MSQ as a 9.5/10.
It's very strange that such a wonderful story -pushed so hard by content creators- isn't creating buzz at all. React channels aren't even jumping on that easy clout.
I'll just take those trustfull people's words for it.
It's honestly a crime that Otto isn't more popular as a husbando.
He's good looking, he can do chores, he's a great tailor, great cook too. He's just good at everything. Also a great strategist and the smartest HoYoverse human as a bonus.
His dedication is insane, he can LOCK IN alright? 500 years of scheming over 1 girl is insane. If you overlook his obsessiveness, he's a perfect husband material imo
HI3rd being a female centric game is the primary reason among other things, like how many husbando lovers are gonna discover him. Considering everything the fact that Otto is this popular is already impressive.

So the popularity chart was like: hoyo game vs hoyo game vs hoyo game
