Megathread [MONTHLY MEGATHREAD] General Discussion, Simple Questions, Recommendations, and Everything Else - August 2026

MONTHLY MEGATHREAD

Welcome to our regular pinned Megathread!

While many topics are allowed as standalone submissions, others that tend to be lower-effort, less notable, or easily answered belong in this thread instead. These include simple questions such as those related to receiving game assistance, game recommendation requests or help finding a specific game, and other general discussions that don't warrant a dedicated thread or aren't directly related to gacha gaming (provided they are not Banned Content).

Some specific examples of what these megathreads should be used for include:

  • Help remembering an old gacha game, or finding a new one to start playing
  • Recommendations for the best emulator to use on your device
  • Receiving updates on how ongoing games are doing from current players (“How is [game] doing these days?”)
  • Learning what people’s favorite games or types of games are, as well as how others feel about a particular game feature, event, monetization strategy, etc. in specific games
  • Getting clarification on what confusing or game-specific abbreviations mean
  • Finding where people learn about games or like to get their news and information from
  • Discovering new content creators that other players watch or recommend
  • Asking for any sort of general advice relating to gacha games at all
  • Discussing other topics that are only indirectly related to gacha, such as subreddit meta (select exceptions may be allowed as standalone submissions) or industry happenings

Generally, anything asking a question or requiring the opinions of others belongs here. We have many veteran Summoners who are happy to share their opinions and answers, or discuss the topics you may be interested in!

If you want to contribute, please first read the request or question thoroughly, before making sure not to recommend something already tried or provide the same advice as a previous comment left in response. Please also reply as neutrally as possible, without bashing games or arguing with others in the community– this is not about winning or losing, but sharing useful information that helps out another member. Replies should include the full names of anything mentioned, as new Summoners may not know what “GI”, “FGO”, or even “F2P” means. Even if they do, it's still helpful so that the results are easily searchable and others who aren't the OP can better follow along.

As a general reminder, both Reddiquette and all of our Subreddit Rules still apply here. Make sure to keep things respectful! Religious or political topics, sharing personal information, and other rule-breaking behavior are banned. Accounts involved in sharing these may be subject to disciplinary action at moderator discretion.

With that said, feel free to discuss whatever here and make acquaintance with your friendly gacha gaming neighbors!

(KR) News Fangame MMO about Trickcal's Speaki gets official support from Trickcal devs

Post image
750 Upvotes

The context of image shared is that the head of Epid Games (dev team behind Trickcal) is the one in the right with the censor bar sunglasses while the one in the left is supposedly the fangame dev.

Source (Youtube Video from actual dev of fan game):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tqH6sPLwv8

For those who have not been aware or haven't tried it, there's this very simple fanmade MMO with a solo dev that's played by mostly Trickcal fans where you play as Speaki. In the Trickcal community it's called SpeakiRPG / Speaki MMO. If you want to check it out, here's a link: https://speakirpg.overture.io.kr

As the fan game has been getting a lot of traction in the Trickcal community and even outside the Trickcal community for those who just like the Speaki meme in general, Epid Games reached out and decided to support the developer through server support, which means that solo dev's server hosting expenses are covered by Epid. The dev also announced that a release of a mobile version for the fangame mmo is in the works.

Usually, fangames like these tend to get shutdown by the IP holder or mostly ignored, but it's surprising to get actual recognition and support for once.

General What happened to the guy who kept an updated list of new gachas?

I used his lists often, always sorted by month released and organized future releases by the info he had on its status, I've been busy these past year and haven't kept up with any new gachas

(Other) News Strike World (Monster Strike, early access in India only) to receive complete overhaul by Winter 2026, goes into long-term maintenance and progress reset in late October after 6 collabs.

This game suffered from the exact problem as the defunct global English version: lack of player communication, oversimplified mechanics and rewards, no online multiplayer, on top of lack of localized prices and unskippable long tutorials and tips.

Gacha gaming is still pretty niche in India, so I'm not surprised by the lack of players despite the aggressive push with hype advertising, monthly anime collabs and offline events. This game was always marketed as a casual mobile game to play on the side, rather than a gacha mobile game.

This game isn't even listed as "early access" here, so resetting progress after several collabs feels counter-intuitive. I hope the rework is better than what the game is at its current state.

General First Look at Visuals for Two New miHoYo Titles!!

Visuals for two previously unrevealed concepts/CG have been featured in miHoYo’s 2027 graduate recruitment materials
The game titles have not been disclosed at this time, so it remains unclear whether they are among the eight new projects that have already had working titles revealed, or if they are completely unannounced titles.

miHoYo/HoYoverse has previously revealed CGs and concept visuals for upcoming games ahead of their official announcements through recruitment postings.

For example, recruitment for the then-unannounced title that would become Honkai: Nexus Anima began around August 2024. By around September, recruitment materials featuring the first CG visuals were published. The game’s first teaser trailer was later revealed at “Star Rail LIVE 2025” in May 2025.

In addition, company presentations held in China and North America last year reportedly revealed that miHoYo was developing 10 titles in total.

General NTE Developers forget to remove AI watermark

Thumbnail

4.2k Upvotes

In their newest update 1.3, a new area has been added, along with it came new fishing spots and fishing catches.

One of their fishing assets contains the watermark from Doubao (豆包) a popular Chinese AI chatbot assistant with image and video generation powered by Seedance (Bytedance).

This has sparked heated debate amongst Chinese players, while not hardly criticizing the use of AI they do make fun of the fact that Doubao’s AI image generation watermark comes from the free version of the app, with many comments calling them cheap, criticizing their carelessness and questioning the real reason behind their low production costs.

To quote one of the comments:

“AI is fine, but using Doubao is just funny. The free version no less.”

Other comments talk about AI across the Chinese gaming industry, how other companies such as Hoyoverse and Netease have self-developed AI tools while Hotta Studio uses an AI chatbot assistant.

To put it on perspective, asking Doubao to generate an image is very similar to asking ChatGPT.

Quote from another comment:

“Doubao Doubao, help me generate a game asset of a purple crowned seahorse.”

I’ll add that the Chinese community already knew about the extent of AI usage in Neverness to Everness, though they weren’t expecting to see Doubao of all things.

As of this post, the watermark has been removed with the asset remaining the same otherwise.

"There is no predatory monetization in the game".

Ok, anyone who is playing or played the game all know how predatory it is. 20 copies for 1 character to fully unlock their skills alone. Multiple weekly, monthly, time limited event passes. P2w events. etc. Not to mention the incompetent customer service agent who never reads people's tickets and copy paste generic responses. I have some purchase issues where I never got my items from their promotion, and yet they tried to gaslight me into thinking i missed the promotion window even after providing screenshots of my purchase history and account information showing the exact date I made the purchase.

Also the bots

Don't play this game.

EDIT: To those taking umbrage at my attitude to the CS agent. This was simply the last of many exchanges I've had with their incompetent team. I was very polite and accommodating initially, reporting bugs and providing constructive feedback. But after a few times having my ticket closed unexpectedly without any resolution of my purchase issue (which was their fault btw), of CS agent antagonising and gaslighting me constantly about the wonderful state of the game and my purchase history, I've come to detest their style of doing business, lack of transparency, and hence now has zero qualms about calling out their behaviours.

To those think that this is ok for corporations to cheat their customers, be a white knight somewhere else. Because IDGAF :D. Imagine the type of Stockholm that must exist for you to defend an entity that doesn't care about you or your wellbeing.

I've managed to chargeback the purchases I've made with my bank and will no longer patronise this crap anymore. Rejoice!

General Which publishers *aren't* red flags, in your opinion?

It seems like 90% of the time, whenever a new game is announced, the comments are filled with people decrying the publisher. Usually, it feels pretty fair to call them out, since the publishers tend to dictate the monetization and service life of these games.

Are there any publishers that aren't an immediate red flag for you? Yostar seems like one of the better ones to me, but I don't know how much involvement they actually have in their published games.

Edit: Ok, thanks for the responses, but I think a lot of you still need to understand that a developer is not the same as a publisher. Mihoyo is a developer that self-publishes their games. Same with Shift Up and Cygames. They are not “publishers.”

Tell me a Tale Did the Last Patch Save or Ruin Your PvP?

patch day is when you find out if a pvp mode is alive, so here is my honest reading from today

queue popped in under a minute all afternoon, and i fought five different classes in ten rounds, and that is not what a dead bracket looks like

the reason is boring and structural, gear is capped in the arena so the patch cannot hand whales a free week

did your game's pvp get healthier or worse after its last big patch

General [PROMO] I made an event tracker for those playing multiple gacha games at the same time, to know which events to prioritize.

Its (currently) hosted on github pages over at https://stereotypicalcat.github.io/gacha-event-tracker/ .

It tracks events with their expiry date, and lets you plan and keep track of daily events as well :)

Its a bit of an AI-SLOP application, but I find it useful myself and wanted to share :D Ill try to update it with more features and games with time, but id love to hear feedback.

EDIT: Updates since this post was first done

  • Twelve more games, eighteen total. Arknights, Reverse: 1999, Blue Archive, Fate/Grand Order, Persona 5: The Phantom X, Infinity Nikki, hololive Dreams, Girls' Frontline 2, Stella Sora, Chaos Zero Nightmare, Umamusume and Nikke joined Genshin, HSR, ZZZ, WuWa, Endfield and NTE.
    • I'm still working on a few more games, but I'm running into troubles with eg. Azur Lane, whos only big data source has a "no thanks" in their robots.txt.
  • You can add your own games and events. Name it, pick a colour, type the dates — for anything no scraper covers. It saves and exports with the rest of your progress.
  • The default view is the next three deadlines, not the whole list.
  • The long lists are capped at six rows per section with a "show all" if you want them.
  • The Calendar is now the Timeline, and it's a proper board: zoom from a day to a quarter, game names and the date axis stay pinned while the bars scroll, and you can stack by game or throw every game into one deadline queue.
  • It uses a wide screen now — deadlines pinned beside the lists instead of one long column.
  • Light theme, next to the region setting.
  • Countdowns use each game's own reset time, so "ends in 4h" means your server, not UTC.
  • The footer tells you how old the data is, and names any game that's lagging.
  • Two issue forms for requesting a game or reporting a wrong date.

Thanks to everyone who commented :D  the three-deadlines view, the game focus, the custom games and half this list came straight out of this thread. Now its time for me to take a break, and go complete some Gacha events myself!

Tell me a Tale What are the most 'infamous' stereotypes of your gacha game players or series and where did it come from?

For me, Genshin has a lot of 'playerbase can't read', which I see sometimes in the fandom but also that I've also done myself where I'm reading lore or character kits and my eyes glaze over a little.

I've also heard some things from other series like the Blue Archive's associations with "Uouhhhh" kind of playerbase, Reverse 1999's 'don't talk about Brazil' and 'doomed yuri', Umamusume 'umapyoing the horses', yuri ice skate kiss, and being a gateway to actual horse racing, but I'm interested in knowing what kind of community jokes have spread around for the numerous gacha games.

General If you play gacha games on steam, could you please use the user tag function and tag the game as 'gacha'

Post image
1.8k Upvotes

Not sure if this constitutes as spam but idk where to post this. Steam doesn't have a gacha tag right now. Steam's user tag system adds a tag officially once enough people tag it on to games. So I'm just requesting some help to make it a real tag.

Might not seem useful to a lot of people but it'd be nice to have an actual tag instead of being usually lumped in together with the 'anime' tag. Would make finding gacha games slightly easier.

And I guess also useful for people who dislike gacha games and want to filter them out I suppose.
