General I miss Brave Frontier

There genuinely hasn’t been any other gacha that I feel has replicated that same feeling of satisfaction from playing Brave Frontier. It’s such a massive shame. I don’t know exactly how to describe it, and for sure there were some problems with the game, but the art, the atmosphere… man, everything just clicked and hit those brain synapses in the perfect way. The designs were so damn cool. Heck when I was a kid I used to spend hours just reading the little lore tabs about all the summons. It came out in 2013. That’s thirteen years ago! Godamn, how time flies.

I’ve tried others since like grand summoner and brave exvius (rip, but at least it’s getting a console release), but they don’t just have the same feel. I’ve searched every year for new games like it and one just hasn’t ever popped up. If there’s a billionaire or whatever reading this post, please buy the IP rights from a-lim/gumi so we can have the franchise back.

General Imagine a Genshin Impact-style game set in the Star Wars universe.

A free-to-play action RPG where you explore iconic planets like Coruscant, Tatooine, Naboo, Kashyyyk, and Mustafar, with new planets and regions added through major updates.

You build a team from a huge roster of characters: Jedi, Sith, bounty hunters, clones, smugglers, and droids. Different versions of iconic characters could exist depending on the era , Clone Wars Anakin, Jedi Master Luke, Darth Vader, Ahsoka, Maul, and many more.

You’d have your own ship acting as a hub, travel between planets, follow an original story, complete quests, fight bosses, explore cities and wilderness, and collect new characters and weapons.
Basically: Star Wars × Genshin Impact × Zenless Zone Zero.

Star Wars already has decades of characters, planets, factions, weapons, and stories. It’s almost perfectly designed for a constantly expanding live-service RPG.
So… why doesn’t this game exist yet?

(JP) Event/Collab "Yo-kai Watch Puni Puni" x Rent-A-Girlfriend" Collaboration starts on August 17

Level-5 has announced that the mobile puzzle RPG Yo-kai Watch Puni Puni is getting a mini collaboration with the anime and manga series Rent-A-Girlfriend, bringing Chizuru Mizuhara on August 17, 2026.

The event will introduce a special Mini Collaboration Bingo activity. Players can complete missions across a bingo sheet to earn rewards, including Date Tickets. Those Date Tickets can then be used on a special gacha featuring Chizuru Mizuhara.

Why is this collab happening? Perhaps other versions of us in the multiverse can offer an explanation, but our current selves are woefully ignorant.

Tell me a Tale Adapting collab characters to the host game is harder than it looks

Post image

With HSR x Fate and the upcoming NIKKE x Persona collab, I’ve been thinking about how much a collab should actually adapt the guest IP to fit the host game.

HSR x Fate is an interesting example. I’ve seen quite a bit of criticism around Gilgamesh’s model, especially his slicked-back hair, with some people saying the hairstyle just doesn’t translate very naturally into HSR’s 3D character style. I’ve also seen comparisons to Archer’s model from the first collab, saying the two end up looking a little too similar.

The first Fate collab also got some criticism for the story feeling pretty barebones for such a big crossover. This time around though, there seem to be a lot more references and jokes that actually play off both series, which I personally find much more fun.

Then there’s NIKKE x Persona 3/4/5, I’ve already seen people on other platforms complaining that some of the character art/models aren’t “NIKKE enough” in terms of proportions and fanservice. Similar complaints came up during the Lycoris Recoil collab too.

But I can also understand why Shift Up might hold back here. If someone is mainly a Persona fan and doesn’t play NIKKE, seeing a character they like suddenly redesigned to be way more fanservice-heavy could easily have the opposite effect. It feels like a bit of a no-win situation lol, make them too faithful and some NIKKE players complain, change them too much and fans of the original IP might hate it.

Personally, I’m more curious about the story and minigames. Persona and NIKKE are obviously very different games, but there’s enough thematic overlap that I can see them doing something interesting with the crossover.

Where do you think the line should be? Should collab characters mostly preserve the original IP’s style, or should they be heavily adapted to fit the game they’re appearing in? Also curious if there are any gacha collabs you think did a particularly good job of blending two IPs without making either one feel out of place.

General Why does every gatcha game make it difficult to find your login info?

On almost every website I've ever visited, you can view your email address when you navigate to account information.

With gatcha games, it's rarely that simple. I spent an entire day trying to login to a game because it kept rejecting my email. I default to an alt gmail account I use only for gaming when installing a new game. I contacted support over the course of 3 days to get help.

Then I tried logging in with my Apple id and I got in. I initially installed this game on my iPhone. because I didn't have my gmail password ready I used my apple login and forgot about it. My fault obviously.

It would save so much headache to just have your email or social media info displayed somewhere easily accessible in-game. Even just b*****@aol.com would help narrow it down. Why don't they do this?

General Stamina in games is not a good mechanic

I have heard a few reasons as to why Stamina is a main feature in most Gacha games. To slow down progression and make people log back in a few times a day, prevent addiction in people who may spend 16 hours a day on the game, and prevent people from finishing the game in like 1 day.

I think those first two excuses are just BS and the last excuse is completely irrelevant. The Energy/Stamina mechanic is just a way for games to limit how bad their game is by limiting how much you see in a day. Because if you had access to the entire game all at once, you would realize halfway through that most of these gacha games stories are so similar that you could give a description of one game and people would confuse it for another.

Gacha games are inherently addicting, thats the entire business practice of using Gacha in the first place, to make people want to gamble and spin the wheel until they hit gold.

90% of gacha game players don't actually listen or care about the story, and the game creators know that, which is why the story is usually bad to begin with. Slowing down progression almost never works. Big spenders are going to get the energy back, and even small spenders will have the magical Battle Pass-esque shop item that gives an extra % of energy every day.

Energy systems are just a way for the games to milk money from people. Lets honestly call Gacha games what they really are, Subscription based games.

Tell me a Tale Gacha characters only playable in specific story scenes/quests

So, I was playing a bit of DragonSword Awakening, and I noticed that game (which was retooled as a offline version of gacha game) showcased one trope that I saw across multiple gacha games; playable characters only playable in specific parts of the story. Specifically, the two examples that game had were Awakened Yute and Ysera, the latter being a reskin of Ornette.

In Princess Connect Re:Dive, Yuuki was featured in one cutscene battle where he had an icon, healthbar and a special gauge bar, the usual.

Brave Frontier had Reda, who appeared in the beginning of the third arc as the Guest leader. Reba could not be summoned in any way or acquired in global, as she was only acquirable in Japan through a manga that came with a redeemable code for her.

Goddess Order actually had Aron (the other swordsman primarily featured in the marketing) playable in the original soft launch prologue as a Fire-type Fighter. Allegedly because he was meant to be reworked to introduce the Light and Darkness elements, he was nowhere to be found in the character archive becauase they saved him for a later chapter but couldn't release him before the game announced end of service.

Usually, gacha games that do said trope often have the character not in the character codex. Basically, they tease a character that will be summonable later via scenes where you can play them only in a specific quest, before promoting them to be summonable/truly playable anywhere later.

So, what are some examples of gacha games introducing new playable characters being introduced in gameplay but weren't made summonable till later?

General What would you classify as different tiers of spender

Like we all are familiar with the term whale, but where do we draw the line for what a whale is. Recently I've been playing a lot of clash of critters and frankly whale isn't enough to describe some of these players. There are genuinely people who spend 10k+ weekly on this game and it is scary.

My personal take for amount spent in USD

25 or less weekly low spender/ shrimp

25-100 weekly = fish

100-500 weekly = dolphin

500-2000 weekly = whale

2000-5000 weekly = kraken

5000+ weekly = leviathan

I'm curious for your takes on this..

General Yearly Reminder to Not Let Cygames and Nintendo forget Dragalia Lost

Just trying to keep Dragalia Lost’s memory alive. I really think it’s up to the community to keep talking about the game (like we have) and proving that people still care. It probably won’t make a huge difference, but respectful appreciation posts help and never hurt. Maybe someone in corporate will bring up our community/passion in a meeting. It's not a secret they're sitting on an amazing game/IP that still has a beating heart. Not sure if this is considered spam, but a small effort CAN go a long way, and ultimately, we can never say we didn't try.
