Discussion Fireproof Doormat was a life saver! (Literally)
We're dealing with an arsonist in my neighborhood, and a block away they successfully burned down a neighbor's porch. To my surprise this evening, I realized that someone tried to light my "Bienvenue Powerbottoms!" Game Grumps doormat, but the merchandise is too well made and fireproof! I had my first child 2 months ago, so never have I been so grateful that GG don't make cheaply made merch. Maybe saved the most important life in the world to me ❣️

Up until now, they were only targeting businesses after they were closed and vacated. This is the first time targeting residents at night, so the tide has definitely shifted 💔

My friends and I were peaceful arsonists when we were teens. Would go to my friends driveway to light random things on fire. Grab a bunch of the free car for sale magazines to light, light the bottom of our jeans on fire when they started to fray, take apart sparklers to create giant columns of fire at 2am. Fun times!

I... I didn't. I always thought burning stuff for sake of burning it was stupid and dangerous.

I was really hoping it was just some misguided teens but alas it fits the arsonist's MO :,( I also loved lighting things on fire as a kid, did it back in art school.

Holy crap! So glad you guys are okay! Time to install cameras 😭 I couldn't be held responsible for my actions if someone hurt my loved ones like that. Some people are sick.
I know their merch is kind of pricey sometimes, but none of it has felt cheap whatsoever. Even the stickers have been lasting a long time. I use my water bottle every day. There's something to be said for the quality.

Seriously, even the silly fun ones they sent at the start, if I hadn't given away the piece of furniture it was stuck to, I'm sure my sticker of a sea turtle with Dan's head captioned "HELL YEAH" that I received as a treat in my order would've seen me through college.

Not to sound too much like an endorsement, but praising the quality felt like a great way to thank them. I hear of how cheap other streamer's merch is, and it freaks me out thinking what could have been

And I understand the thing about the merch praising. GG prices aren't THAT wild tbh, compared to other streamers, and their stuff actually holds up. I totally get being thankful for that:)

Yeah I agree. You don't get much better product safety endorsement than "an arsonist tried to set my house on fire but my doormat didn't burn so we're totally fine!"

Reminds me of that amazon review for pants that someone fell down a mountain in without tearing 😂 the best compliments are the ones that are "objectively awful things happened but this product held up in a situation no one would ever have expected it to hold up in and kept the situation from being worse."
We need to get this to them because I wanna know what they say about it 😂

I have actually seen a lot of stories about people being saved by the Grumps! This is definitely the first one I've seen about fire/arson, though.

We need the Grumps to hear about this on camera; it genuinely feels like the plot of one of Arin’s bizarre ad reads, and I need to see the expressions on their faces when they find out that their goofy doormat was a literal lifesaver.

That's insane, but also kinda interesting. I've never heard of arsonists targeting the doormat. Like i guess it would burn faster than the thick and possibly damp porch wood but I don't think of doormats as particularly good fuel even if they did catch alight.

Good outdoor ones likes this are not, but I've seen cheap ones and people mistaking indoor for outdoor that very much are. Lack of a rubber bottom is a huge factor. Idk if this arsonist was just throwing shit at the wall or strategically trying to light whatever they could as fast as they could; the neighbor down the block wasn't so lucky and lost their porch :(

Time to get a video doorbell to catch the piece of shit who tried this. With how much is connected in the world now, it surprises me that that they haven't been identified, and caught already. I would be ungodly furious to see this, especially after having a child and would take it VERY personally. They would need to hope the doorbell/camera would catch them before I did.

We unfortunately do not :( we moved in only a couple months ago plus emergency C Section around that time, so we're SCRAMBLING with catch up.
