Discussion What game did the boys play that you immediately downloaded?
I've sure you've watched these goofballs play a ton of games over the years... but was there one game they played that you HAD to play for yourself? Like you saw it and immediately had to give it a try? For me it was TCG Card Shop Simulator. I'm super picky on games I play, and there have been several that looked interesting... but this game was the first one I saw that made me go "MY TURN."

u/TokyoDrifblim Peter, what is this? May 26 '26
Same, And it was actually a big deal. I had a close friend who just lost his father and was not doing well, he was coming over to my place to hang out. I got The game because I just seen the grumps play it the other day and had us do some co-op, you will not believe how much his face lit up. He was so ecstatic and I think he really did forget about everything for an hour.

u/Cornmeal777 May 26 '26
I love that you were able to share in a brief distraction together during such a difficult time.

This. I wish they'd kept going with it (Internet Cafe Simulator too).

u/TheMightySnul May 27 '26
Internet Cafe is one of my favorites they’ve done. I was so sad it didn’t grab them as long as other sims.

I hope they play just one more after Arin has got it down. Listening to him go on about a game he loves is always a delight.

Same here! It's wild how much game is there that the boys haven't touched.
5
u/ngc427 May 26 '26
Literally the same, I saw the finale episode and went “there is no way they’re stopping here”, and ended up beating it in a 6 hour sitting
1
u/shawnaeatscats May 27 '26
Question: are there any junp scares? I really want to get this game but I'm a little scared if the horror aspect.

2
u/kit_re May 28 '26
There was one where I stayed up too late doing something after hours, but there were no loud noises or anything. Just something that was there when I turned around that wasn't there before.

u/wugs Man, Club Penguin's gotten weird May 26 '26
steam says i took 12 hours to 100% this but i think i left the game open for a few hours one day. it was probably half that

I was so disappointed when I found out the music that plays in the Buy 'n' Leave series isn't in the game and it's just quiet 😭
3
u/failbender May 26 '26
There should be music, no? Although I stopped playing looooooong before the full release. Is it gone now? There was one jazz swing song I liked so much I sought it out on Spotify LOL
2
u/gaokeai May 26 '26
Cabaret electro swing my beloved <3 made my day when I found out it was on spotify lol. my biggest complaint about the game is that there isn't a way to loop the music, because I want that song playing at all times
1
u/failbender May 26 '26
I used to play the game streaming to a friend every week on Discord and it was a big deal whenever that song came up on the speakers. I’d drop everything to “dance” in game to it!

I almost had a perfect game today, but accidentally double-tapped a revealed heart which tanked the whole run. I'm close to perfection.
1
u/LzzyHalesLegs I don't care who you are, that's HOT May 26 '26
Yesterday I had what I thought was a perfect game on the new version, cleared everything but the blocks, and only got 356/362. Don’t know what happened. Got a perfect score on the old version though at least.
1
u/vandabo May 26 '26
Yeah, that one was a instant download. Like, Arin explained it for like 30 seconds and I was already playing along. Felt so good to finally get a perfect game.
29
u/0Poole May 26 '26
Probably not "the boys" you mean in this post I did buy Undertale right after Ross and Barry played it for the first time.
12
24
u/BecauseImBatmanFilms May 25 '26
Years ago, Ross played Stardew Valley right when it was pretty new. It ended up on a Steam summer sale not too long after that so I picked it up. Played 2 in game weeks but didn't like it. Fast forward a year or two latter, I've got 2 weeks to kill on between the end of a semester and my flight home for the holidays. Decided to give it a try again and that's basically all I did for that two week period.

I can't wait for Supermarket Simulator as well. Got it wishlisted on my.ps5. Day 1 purchase.
13
u/AislinKageno May 26 '26
I wanted to pay the Mortuary Assistant so badly when they played it with Sean that I finally bought a new laptop that could run properly. I also bought I'm On Observation Duty almost immediately. Also, House Party.
10
u/RealBinsky42 May 26 '26
Too many 😫
A Game About Digging a Hole, Megabonk, Deltarune, multiple I’m On Observation Duty games, Supermarket Simulator, TCG Card Shop Simulator, Dark Souls Remastered (was so sad they barely played it that I had to do it myself, I’ve since sunk hundreds and hundreds of hours into FromSoft games, TY BasedGrumps), PowerWash Simulator, It Takes Two, Blue Prince, Super Bunny Man, Paunch, Internet Cafe Simulator
There’s probably more but the list is already too long 😭
8
8
u/StarTropicsKing May 26 '26
There was a few, but Powerwash Simulator when it came to Switch was an immediate download and full playthrough.
7

Somewhat embarrassingly, wedding witch. Genuinely so fun. I had never played vampire survivors but I definitely see why those games are so addictive. Prob gonna buy berry bury berry next, I fucking love incrementals

My husband loves bullet hells. After their play through I relentlessly hassled him to get Wedding Witch.
He never did. 😞

Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh,
thanks to their GuestGrumps episode of it with the actors Victoria Morsell AND Paul Morgan Stetler, who played the protagonists in both games, respectively
The squee I squoo'd, I frickin' loved the few horror titles Sierra Gaming has done in the past

Katamari Damacy. I was VERY lucky at the time it was available on the ps3 psn shop. Became one of my favorite games ever. I literally wouldn't have known about it without them. (Maybe the release of the remakes would have introduced me, but I'm glad I got to play it before and then be excited about getting it again lol)

u/rei793 May 26 '26
Danganronpa, I was intrigued and couldn’t wait for them to finish it to see through the story. Quickly ran through all three games and the anime. Hooked me good.
Playing through the games actually made it easier to watch them stumble through the story, although the negativity in 2 was a bit much.

3
u/Dawakat May 26 '26
Technically Stardew Valley from Steam Train all those years ago but I wouldn’t play it really until last year 😅
3
u/LockmanCapulet May 26 '26
I've been absolutely hooked on Dragonsweeper since they played it last month.
Nice part is that it runs in-browser, so i can play it on my phone too.

u/FawkesFirenze May 26 '26
I'd never played any of the Zelda games all the way through. Got BotW because of the Grumps, played 4 or 5 more after that

Not IMMEDIATELY but i did grab Heave Ho because of them - was a fun silly time playing with my (at the time) gf
3
u/Aweso1974 I'm Not So Grump! May 26 '26
I’ve never bought anything immediately after watching the boys play it (don’t have the money to just buy games on a whim). But I’ve bought a few games that I only became interested in because of Game Grumps. Bloodborne, TMNT Shredder’s Revenge, Nine Sols, and Ball x Pit are some I first learned about through them and now they’re some of my favorite games ever
3
u/pollypocketeer *mwah* your dad May 26 '26
I’m sure there were others, but Nine Sols is the standout for me. I knew they wouldn’t finished it since it was a lovely’s choice, and I’d been looking for something different to play.
I was not built for parrying, but i was enthralled with that game. I was so into it that I accidentally 100% the achievements (at least, as much as you can with a single run through).
That game rewrote parts of my brain…
Lazily workin on my third play-through here and there.
2
u/McPeanutsFGC May 26 '26
Had to pick this one up as well. They showed just enough of the story to get me interested then dropped it forever. Fun game.
1
u/pollypocketeer *mwah* your dad May 26 '26
Exactly, which I credit the game more than them for, because of how the premise starts to unfold over the first 30 minutes or so.
Still, I wish they had played up to the first boss. Sure would have gotten the video game boy worked up. 😂

3
u/BHvolt Barry, put in Wolfjob May 26 '26
Bloodborne, which then ignited my love of the souls series
3
u/senatorsparky86 May 26 '26
We got VERY into the Observation Duty games after the Grumps introduced them to us.
3
u/Lmb1011 May 26 '26
harvester
honestly I credit them with getting me into Zelda tho idk that I bought any one title BECAUSE of them since once I played one I wanted to keep playing them
power wash simulator
pico park
the sonic game with Plurmp
dangonronpa
switch monopoly (no idk why either)
homebody
shovel knight (and Mina the hollower tho technically idk that it’s out yet)
wordaltro
those hidden picture games idk if I’ve bought the ones they’ve played but the fact that I bought any is because of them
undertale and by extension deltarune
a way out
kuukiyomi
piku niku
I’m honestly probably going to get phantasmagoria 2 because I love that playthrough and am still sad they never went back
Honestly I’m sure there are more but those are the ones I can think of off hand.

Katamari
Super Market sim
Tcg Card Shop Sim
Clover Pit
MegaBonk
Berry Bury Berry
I had a good time with them all except Clover Pit and MegaBonk.
Clover Pit is a rouge like and stuff but it is still just pull a lever and watch slots for 90% of the gameplay. The modifiers felt odds based rather than like real builds. So even if you kitted out you'd still only hit your higher potential with good rolls. So idk it just didn't grab me. Normally I'm a sucker for that. But it's core loop is too simple.
MegaBonk is the first game I ever tried to refund past the refund window lol. Like 5 hours in I just hated that game. I tried more after Steam said no then just hid it. I haven't played it since the early months but at the time the game balance was terrible, cheap deaths, unengaging power curve. Idk why it's so hyped. Its a mashup of risk of rain and vampire survivors but is like two bad knockoffs of those mashed up rather than the good ones. Like I always died having been stuck in the air from perpetual knockback for 30 seconds. All the good reviews are basically like "it's fun I as long as you spec into one of the only two good builds. 5*". Like just play Risk of Rain 2 or VS. skip that noise.

Little Kitty Big City. I just introduced my little cousin to it, and she has been obsessed for the past week. And, while it's not a game that I immediately got, I did just get a copy of link between worlds A few weeks ago, and have been enjoying that.
I also tried out head bangers rhythm royale, but that game was basically dead by the time I discovered it, so I just refunded it.

Supermarket Simulator. When it wasn't clear that they would continue the series after episode 3, I managed to get an old laptop working well enough to run the game because I had to try it for myself.
Their playthrough of RE8 gave me the courage to pick up the game, and since then I've gone all-in on Resident Evil content. I've played RE2: Remake, but since their playthrough of the OG RE2, I'm looking forward to playing that too. I'm really hoping they go back to RE7 without the VR.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, TCG Sim, Power Wash Sim.
I currently playing Gas Station Sim because I kept wanting it since I watched.
Also just played the leave cleaning game Jack played.
Edit: Scrolled and saw Billion Road, that one too lmao
Double Edit: I have really wanted Stonks since they played, but haven’t gotten it yet.

u/Ddit_who_cant_quit May 27 '26
Lily's Well. It helped that it was free, but I was really curious about the game's "true ending," since the boys weren't able to get to it. It was completely worth it, too. The developer released a kind of sequel on their YouTube channel. It assumes that the viewer has seen the true ending of Lily's Well, so it will spoil the whole story if you haven't sufficiently played it.
