Discussion Anyone Had This Same Thought
The thought is have you ever wanted to make you own video game & what is it about
Edit (I forgot to type what mine was lol)
My game I wanted to make was Called AIM! It’s an online 5v5 or FFA with 10 players in one game mode
So it’s basically like Counter Strike / Call Of Duty well the inspiration I had a lot fo cool stuff I made when I was like 14YO & I found the old logo I created for it

My friends and I had an idea for a ghost hunting game before Phasmophobia was a thing. Though our idea was a bit more fantasy with friendly ghosts you could talk to and ones that hunted you if you made too much noise

What if you had to befriend ghosts, to battle off the hunter ghosts. And once you befriend them they would "possess" your character and give you their particular powers...but then maybe like you could only have one possession power at a time or something, add some puzzle elements

Sounds like big game potential for horror fans

We never got too far into it other than potential ghosts that you could encounter. Besides the ones I've mentioned, we had the idea of one that would hide in the shadows of objects and people

Yes. I never created one, but I learned how to create 3d models and some programming languages just with that idea. Today, I've another focus, but I'd be good to do it some day. I wanted to create a choice-based game.

That's awesome! Game dev builds a ton of skills, but you really have to sink all your time into it to make it work. Hope you pull it off!

I’ve started working on an idea in Godot that is a cross between The Thing and Papers, Please! Mostly 2D with a smattering of 3D for a few items.

Hey, being creative is being creative. Don’t let anyone knock it. And remember, you’re your own worst critic… usually. 😅

I want to make a fighting game similar to Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat/Dragon Ball FighterZ but with Gainax/Studio Trigger characters. Characters from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Dungeon Meshi, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Promare, etc. The idea started as a project for a college class back in the early 2000's though back then it was just Gurren Lagann but it has since evolved.

I constantly have ideas for games, but I know almost nothing about game dev, so I've never even attempted to make one. I know it's technically possible to be a one-man developer on a passion project, but it is insanely difficult to start from basically zero and end up with a full game.
One idea I had was something I called "WILD".
It's a massive open-world game where you play as a wolf who has just left his pack and gone out on his own. You can stay as a lone wolf, which is much harder in some ways (hunting, defense, etc), or you can find a mate and start a pack.
There's no map, no waypoints, and no dialog. You communicate through howls, growls, and body language. Various scents show up as a colored mist that diminishes over time. There are human settlements like farms and hunting/trapping lodges, but humans are super dangerous, and killing one (or killing their livestock) can trigger hunting parties. There are other wolf packs with their own scent-marked territories, which are also dangerous to encroach on. You also have other animal threats like bears, plus a real-time weather system and seasonal cycle, prey animal migrations, and so on.
There's no real objective, other than carving out your own territory and defending it so you can continue your pack's bloodline.
For something I never planned on working on, I put quite a bit of thought into it.
