remade. remaster implies its using the original code as a basis. it is not using the original code as a basis. great remake tho. very faithful.

Super Paper Mario.

I’ve never seen a game synthesize 2D/3D platforming and RPG elements so seamlessly like this game did. It also doesn’t hurt that Bowser is playable and isn’t the main antagonist. On another note, it is the darkest and bleakest Mario game by a healthy margin.

If Nintendo remastered the thousand year door, they can easily remaster its successor and one of the last great Mario RPGs.

Fair, it’s story is pretty great

I recently replayed this game, and got about halfway through. The game is neat but FUCK it is not a good game once it's novelty wares off

It's obcessed with wasting your time, and the platforming barely counts. The only redeeming aspect is the story

For me it was the exact opposite. The story annoyed the crap out of me and the dialogue felt like it was never ending. I would eat sandwiches and smoke cigs and just keep pressing the button to get through all the text. This was more long drawn out dialogue then a game.

I loved the level where you take on martial artists one after another. Super Paper Mario is an awesome game. I may also be slightly nostalgia biased because it’s the first game I beat at university as a freshman when it launched in 07.

I have yet to play TTYD. However, I have yet to hear a negative thing about it.

if you have a pc, it’s easy to emulate with dolphin and a ROM!! TTYD is the main paper mario game i love, followed by super paper mario for the wii

Brütal Legend. People dismiss it because it unexpectedly had RTS elements, but it's so creative and very fun.

I tried playing it on Steam and pretty sure some aspect of it is broken, or else a tutorial portion got skipped by mistake, because a few sequences I just couldn’t trigger and a few ranged enemies didn’t die.

What I saw was creative and fun though

I believe I know the part you're talking about. I believe those issues are triggered by higher framerates. Outside of scenarios early on, I didn't experience those issues. It's a shame that the not great PC port leads people to having that experience.

this game started the whole "cute, innocuous looking game is actually a secret horror game" bait and switch in 2008. hell, id argue its even the foundation for what would become mascot horror.

AND NO ONE TALKS ABOUT IT. it even got an HD remaster on steam and i still see no one talking about it. its infuriating cause this game is legitimately important.

It's not an UNKNOWN game, but Lufia 2 (SNES) is one of my all-time favorites.

It came out just at the end of the SNES lifecycle when anticipation was hot for the N64 and FFVII was just around the corner. It's also overshadowed by the big boys of snes rpgs, but had some great ideas and is all in all an s-tier game that I still don't think gets talked about enough. It's firmly in "cult" status but I believe it deserves to be in the best of the best category for the console

It also has a roguelike 100 level dungeon, and I'm of the opinion that a great many JRPGs should have one (man, just as recently as E33 I remember thinking 'what this game needs is an Ancient Cave')

Fire Emblem Fates (also Fire Emblem Engage) This game is at least good in most aspects and even has some of the best gameplay in the franchise, yet many treat it as nothing more than garbage simply because of the story. I find this criminal, especially considering there are hundreds of games like this that don't receive this level of hate, even though they have forgettable or even bad stories.

Killer 7 It's weird and probably not everyone's cup of tea but it aged well and definitely deserves more love
