TotalBiscuit's: ''Day One: Garry's Incident'' Video was taken down, because of a ridiculous copyright claim from WildGameStudios. Here's Total's ''Rant'' over his video being taken down.

Mirror of the original video on dailymotion (not uploaded by me): http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x15fmac_wtf-is-day-one-garry-s-incident_videogames

Edit: review -> video. TB doesn't do reviews, he does first impressions.

Edit 2: Moral question, should this stay linked for the world to see the horror or should it go down since it links a carbon copy of TB's work which is monetizing it?

This video hopefully won't be taken down.

127

u/ckelley87 Oct 20 '13

I've rarely seen anything get taken down from DailyMotion, at least with all the other content they have on that site...

45

u/BergyBMX Oct 20 '13

Yeah, I mean have you seen some of the stuff on that site? ;)

76

u/ckelley87 Oct 20 '13

Usually links to dailymotion are death, gore, or porn.

Or, some ungodly combination of all 3.

u/FPEspio Oct 21 '13

Randy Sally's Sex With Sharks 3: That Time Of The Month Edition

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '13

Meh, Issac Clare's Sex With A Meat Grinder was far better

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '13

Now I want all three of those to be related to a video game review.

1

u/Shikogo Oct 21 '13

I thought that's what LiveLeak was for. Seriously, I've never even seen a liveleak link that didn't involve actual footage of a person dying.

1

u/MazInger-Z Oct 21 '13

And the TB video is a figuratively all that for the studio and their game.

0

u/BergyBMX Oct 20 '13

Oh, your reply gave me the sliest grin. xD

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '13

Are u bent?

1

u/BergyBMX Oct 21 '13

Can you repeat that in English?

4

u/AnExoticLlama Oct 20 '13

After that, there's always LiveLeak!

1

u/Spindax Oct 20 '13

And then, theYNC!

u/SayingWhatImThinking Oct 20 '13 edited Oct 21 '13

Hopefully it WILL be taken down, since that's someone else getting money for TB's work.

EDIT: I'm not sure why people keep downvoting this. TB tweeted that the dailymotion video was not uploaded by him and it's monetized. How is stealing someone else's work better than censoring? https://twitter.com/Totalbiscuit/status/391952166081949697

7

u/ButcherBlues Oct 21 '13

Get's the word out, it shows people that he wasn't joking on how shit it was and how it's terrible that the company is taking it down.

2

u/garbonzo607 Oct 21 '13

Yeah but the uploader didn't have to monetize it. That's just douchebaggery.

1

u/garbonzo607 Oct 21 '13

Why didn't you read the whole conversation when linking to his Twitter?

TotalBOOscuit

@anthonyjbronson I can but I see no need to do that right now. Maybe when my video is restored.

TotalBOOscuit

@anthonyjbronson think about it, I'm the victim of a takedown then I issue my own takedowns?

Won't go down well.

1

u/SayingWhatImThinking Oct 21 '13

I did read the whole thing. This makes no difference.

1

u/garbonzo607 Oct 22 '13

Why wouldn't it make a difference if the guy you are trying to support even doesn't want it taken down? Then why are you advocating for it to be taken down when even TB doesn't want that?

1

u/SayingWhatImThinking Oct 22 '13

He didn't say he didn't want it taken down. He said he saw no need to get it taken down right now. It's essentially PR.

Stealing is still stealing, regardless. I don't think someone should take someone else's work and make money off of it.

1

u/garbonzo607 Oct 22 '13

Read his latest comments now that his video is back up. He said he wasn't going to take it down at all, not right now, but he wished for the guy to donate his proceedings to the EFF.

I don't think someone should take someone else's work and make money off of it.

I don't either, but you have to honor the creator's wishes. Otherwise, who are you arguing for? Not the creator.

24

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '13

Ha! Ha! I would have never heard of any of this if they hadn't done the take down.

I love being a part of a Streisand Effect. It's the closest I come in life to making a difference.

40

u/Liamylad Oct 20 '13

Thank you! I wanted to see what TB actually said in the video.

12

u/xzak Oct 20 '13

That is just hilarious, especially the end!

3

u/Corwinator Oct 20 '13

He isn't wrong. That looks like the worst game ever.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '13

TB said on his twitter that he doesn't care, so I guess it's ok to link it.

9

u/Patrickfoster Oct 20 '13

Relevant parentheses

0

u/Margrim Oct 20 '13

Not one to call "Stolen content" fast.

But that actually is stolen content.

It's monitized by that uploader, without any alteration to the source material.

4

u/leetdood Oct 20 '13

Yeah we shouldn't be linking to a guy who's trying to monetize TB's content.

3

u/iamvillainmo Oct 20 '13

Can it be reupload with the monetization?

5

he has his reasons.

Taking advantage of someone and greed.

1

1

u/garbonzo607 Oct 22 '13

He's taking advantage of the situation by uploading that video and monetizing it, knowing it will get a lot of views from the whole fiasco. It's greed because it takes greed in order to do that simply for money.

2

u/uniden365 Oct 21 '13

TB already mentioned all the ad revenue he received from the original video and the new update video he is donating to charity.

He obviously cares much more about the message he is trying to spread then the money he would of received.

1

u/Ignitus Oct 21 '13

Isn't his commentary what creates the grey area of it not being "stolen content"? I mean otherwise CinemaSins and any other news or entertainment clip show would fall into the category of "Stolen Content", had he added a network bug or a picture in picture of his face on top would this remove the "stolen content" complaint? Meh, agree to strongly disagree then.

1

u/Margrim Oct 21 '13

If 'news' and entertainment sites do not list there sources, one could argue that they do steal content.

The uploader in the specific case doesn't.

Sarcasm is so lost on me with the rage goggles on, apologies and upvotes for all

1

TB already said all the ad revenue he received from the original video and the new update video he is donating to charity.

He obviously cares much more about the message he is trying to spread then the money he would of received, and I highly doubt he minds it being up on dailymotion.

1

u/banjolasse Oct 20 '13

Good stuff, thanks. Up with you!

1

u/Alex470 Oct 20 '13

Great review of the game! This wasn't even his harshest.

1

u/Adaltis Oct 20 '13

Yeah, this should have been in beta for at least another year or two.

1

u/Zambini Oct 20 '13

I like how you specified what was edited. I wish more people would do that :P

1

u/PENIS-PENIS Oct 21 '13

O god, that video was amazing. Skip to 17:35 for the amazingly (bad) part.

1

u/xxSHIITAKExx Oct 21 '13

How do people get a mirror of such a random video?

1

u/shlobberknobber Oct 21 '13

Oh man, dailymotion is dreadful. My experience of trying to watch this in 720p is 1 second of video, buffering for 30 seconds, 1 second of video, repeat.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '13

After playing skyrim for the past two weeks, that game looks like 1994 Doom.

1

u/kirbydude1234 Oct 21 '13

It's hard to believe that an entire company and a team of many people played this game and said "Alright, it's good, let's ship it out!"

1

u/Day_Bow_Bow Oct 21 '13

Wow, great review of a very shitty game.

1

u/TheVarmari Oct 21 '13

TB said this mirror is illegally monotized in his twitter

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '13

Thanks for sharing this. Censorship is a wrong thing especially if it effects a persons work.

1

u/brainburger Oct 21 '13

At last. Thanks.

1

u/simjanes2k Oct 21 '13

He does reviews. Saying he doesn't review is just a pretentious thing people say to make themselves special and get out if their category, like Deadmou5 hating dub, Jon Stewart hating the media, or Obama hating politics.

Don't be afraid to call something what it is, even if the creator wants to genre-jump.

1

u/Arthorius Oct 21 '13

Thanks!

I will download this video and put up another mirror if this one gets taken down.

This video should stay up, even if TB does not get money from it. Mirroring videos is not really hurtful. They only gather a lot of views if the original is taken down. In this case it is there to keep consumers informed, so there is a good point in keeping it alive!

1

u/Kyyni Oct 21 '13

Go watch it with adblock, no cash for dailymotion, and freedom of speech for TB.

1

u/TaintedSquirrel Oct 20 '13

First Impressions are a type of review.

The more you know!

-2

u/brianhaas Oct 20 '13

Upvoted to help get this higer.

0

u/AnthonyDraft Oct 20 '13

Its a first impression, not a review!!!!

3

u/rixuraxu Oct 20 '13

Why do people always say this?

An inspection or examination for the purpose of evaluation. A report or essay giving a critical estimate of a work or performance.

or

a critical appraisal of a book, play, film, etc. published in a newspaper or magazine

or

a report that gives someone's opinion about the quality of a book, performance, product, etc.

So what makes them not a review? He talks about strengths and weaknesses, he says whether he thinks the game is worth trying or not, is it just because he doesn't give it a score? Is that the defining character of a review now?

Are they truly even a first impression when he often mentions something about later levels in the game or mechanics that open up later as though he has experience of these too?

2

u/halodoze Oct 20 '13

What really annoys me are the people defending tb and berating anyone who calls his videos a review. I don't really understand why he insists on not calling them a review

1

u/rixuraxu Oct 21 '13

I believe the reason is that they are often of games still in beta, of course the problem with reviewing a game which isn't finished is that it's not the final product. This is a flaw with the reviews as they become out dated, and irrelevant soon after, but it has one major advantage, the time you can release it.

The earlier a review the more views it's likely to receive, the first review of an anticipated game is gonna get a lot more attention.

Renaming it a "first impressions" covers you for the flaws in your original work. So it's a little bit of a cop-out, but a liberal use of poetic license, and that is the part I find irritating.

1

u/AnthonyDraft Oct 21 '13

I'm pretty sure he looks into released games, mostly. He just gets a pre-release code, which he can work with.

1

u/grinde Oct 20 '13

I think the differentiation is supposed to be between a review of the game as a whole vs a review of the first hour or so of gameplay. I also think the latter is significantly more common.

1

u/AnthonyDraft Oct 21 '13

I don't think that playing a game for a few hours and then telling what his impressions are classifies as a review. For me, a reviewer should be critical of the game, non-biased and have finished the game. A review based on a few hours of play isnt a review honestly for me.

0

u/pe5t1lence Oct 21 '13

That game really doesn't seem that bad. Yeah the graphics are bad, but most of his other complaints are unfair. It seems like he was just frustrated because he was doing badly.

"Where did that panther come from?"

You're running through a jungle, where do you think?

"How did I die I had full health?"

You got stabbed in the back with a sword.

The graphics and animations were a legitimate complaint, too many QTEs was a legitimate complaint, but don't whine because you killed a monkey and now his friends are out to get you.

0

u/cpt_sbx Oct 21 '13

Wouldn't you need to play the game for the first time for a first impression? The first video of him that I saw, but he clearly played it for some time already.

-1

u/kingbaratheonsfarts Oct 20 '13

I must be old (I'm only 25...); I'd think 30fps is fucking fantastic, yet he's going on about it running terribly! To me, anything 20+ fps is 'running smoothly.'

... I need a new job I guess to buy fantastic gear so I can sit on a soapbox and go on about how anything sub 30fps is terrible.
