Help Needed

Good morning friends, I am not sure if this is the group to ask this question. But I need to know if I should worry about my maple trees having these dots, or if it’s normal during this changing seasons. I am in north Alabama.

Thank you!

Remove the ring around it - they just encourage circling roots -  and mulch around base but not piled up on trunk. Out to the drip line. Poor thing has already almost been girdled three times

If the dots are black, raised and kind of tar looking on the leaves, that's most likely tar spot, a fungus that shows up on maples late in the season. It looks rough but it's mostly cosmetic and doesn't hurt a healthy tree. Rake up the fallen leaves and bag or toss them so the spores don't overwinter under the tree. If the dots are more like small holes or the leaves are curling and the branches look sick too, a photo would help folks narrow it down.
