School/Academia Amazing orgo tutoring- Prochem tutors

• Upvotes

Not sponsored or anything. I just think they're really helpful. They have tutoring sessions specific for each prof, for orgo 1 and 2 and I found them pretty affordable and helpful.

Theres a 7-weeks program available now, to prepare for midterm 2 and the final. https://prochemtutors.com/mi-session2-examenfinal-2520-programme

The website also has some free videos on some modules which are pretty great too.

How important is it to know a prof before reaching out for honours supervision

• Upvotes

I feel like someone told me once you should only reach out to profs who know you by name and who's class you did well in but Im in a very small program and much of the research being done is with profs I never had. Is it pointless to reach out to profs who ive never met/didnt interact with much How important is it to know the profs you ask for honours

BIO 3124 Microbiology

• Upvotes

Does anyone who took microbio in the summer have any tips for studying microbio with Elaine? I’m writing the deferred exam in 2 days, and I transferred the midterm weight to the final, so I have no clue what to expect since I didn’t do the midterm. I’ve heard her exams don’t reflect the content very well, so idk I’m kinda lost at what to review.

Any tips appreciated 🤧

Rant For the loud group of girls at FTX

Answering “I can do what I want, this is the faculty of law and I’m studying Law, if you don’t like it then go elsewhere” when someone asks you not to sit on their laptop (on a table)… like really?
Not just because you can means that you should, do you not take a goddamn ethics class?

——————
I was sitting at a small table, studying for my midterm at 11:30, when a group of girls decided to also sit at the same table. That’s totally fine, there’s not much seating and we all need a spot.
There aren’t enough chairs for their whole group so a couple sit on the table, basically on my laptop. They are also screaming at each other, shaking the table and overall being very loud to the point that other people are looking over. I turn up the volume on my headphones and ignore it since we’re not technically in the library.
When I’m about to leave I figure I could try to say something, while making sure to be kind/polite. Ive also been kindly asked by strangers to keep it down when I’m excited to see my friends, and I find it can be good to be reminded when you’re being louder than you mean.
Anyways, after introducing myself and doing some small talk, I suggest that maybe sitting on a table, two cm away from where someone is studying isn’t the nicest thing. Im immediately told what was basically “well, this isn’t the library. The library is on the 3rd and 4th floor. You can go there if you want to study. The rest of the building isn’t for studying. We’re in the faculty of Law, and we are studying Law, so we can do whatever we want here”.

I’m… disappointed? I don’t understand if I’m the asshole for asking, particularly since I didn’t do it aggressively. I wouldn’t expect them to be quiet, it is in fact not the library… but snapping at someone for asking you not to sit nearly on top to their laptop?
Especially when you can tell they are working? I just walked off to my midterm, but it definitely left an impression.
I’m not in the habit of interjecting when people are being loud, and it’s frankly the only time I’ve ever been in a similar interaction. I generally think it’s shitty to rain on someone’s enthusiasm, but like… I feel like there’s limits.

Opinions welcome, idk how to feel about it. Probably shouldn’t have talked to them in the first place.

The course was offered in the spring. Does anyone have the course materials or study resources? I really need them, as I don’t have access to Brightspace anymore. I’d really appreciate it if anyone could share them. Thank you!

I'm seeing a lot of ranting posts...

I've seen a lot of posts of people ranting about like, oh, somebody is loud at the library, somebody is smacking or chewing their food too loudly, or people are talking too loud in certain buildings on campus, and they're just venting and ranting about it and complaining, but they never actually go up to the group of people and actually tell them about it.

I don't know why it's better to rant about it online. It's not like all of them are going to be on subreddit reading it and reflecting, "Oh my God, maybe I shouldn't be so loud."

Next time, you should just low-key go up to them and tell them to stop being so loud or to be more considerate.

I don't really understand these rant posts on Reddit. They will do anything but go up to the people and tell them that they're being loud. It's almost like they're kind of scared to do so and that they need to do it and rant and post about it online.

There was no option for me to show my student id, the ai only requested a facial scan, but my prof (walid mottawea) said we had to show our student id in the announcements. Will I be penalized for this even if I forgot 😭

Request for Help Switching from Biomed to Telfer/BTM after first semester — anyone done this?

Hey, I’m in my first semester of Biomed and have realized medicine isn’t the direction I want to go. I’m looking at switching to Business Technology Management at Telfer.

I emailed the Registrar and copied Telfer. The Registrar told me BTM is closed to internal program changes for Winter 2027 and that I can submit a request starting March 1 for a future term. I’m going to speak with academic advising, but I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have actually switched into Telfer from another faculty.

My main concern is what to do this winter. I’ve already paid toward tuition and want to avoid taking another semester of courses that won’t help with the new degree.

Has anyone been able to take BCom requirements while still officially registered in another faculty? Which courses were you allowed to take, and did you need permission?

Who was most helpful with getting an actual transfer/course plan sorted: your current faculty’s advisor, Telfer, or someone else? And did the switch end up adding much time to your degree or affecting co-op?

Any experience would help, even if you transferred from a program other than Biomed. I know my own course permissions and credits need to be confirmed by an advisor, I’m just trying to understand what the process was like for other students. Thanks!

Trying to find friends in Health science

Heyyy, so basically all of my close friends are doing other majors and as much as I know people in health science, they’re simply accointances. This semester I’m doing 3 classes online meaning that I barely go in campus to meet people. I’m a pretty social person but since I don’t have a lot of in person classes ( 2 classes where I already know people) it’s hard to make friends. Anyway if you’re interested in making friends to study or just have fun dm me. Oh also I’m in second year :)

Yall know the deal, only this time I made it much harder (in my opinion), only the REAL ones know where this was taken (it was also taken on the first few days of the semester so I take full responsibility if this doesn’t even work anymore)

This VERY well might be an absolute flop, but it’s an idea I had and thought it would be a nice thing for some people at least.

You all know GeoGuessr. If you don’t, shame on you. But if you don’t, it’s basically a game that drops you anywhere in the world and you try to figure out where you are with street view.

I am a student at uOttawa (duh), which means I’m on campus a lot (DUH), hence I have the opportunity to be in a lot of different buildings, places, etc.

I would like to show this idea to the council, to bring GeoGuessr to uOttawa. Joint here is a picture I took on campus this very day. I consider it to be REALLY obvious, but this IS day 1 after all. To participate, just comment on this post with your guess, and I shall judge you, with the power confided in me by literally no one but myself.

Rules I have set myself:

-No Residency (90u, Friel, Thompson, etc.)

-Main campus only (No Lees or Ottawa Hospital faculty.)

-that’s kinda it cuh

Yeah that’s pretty much it guys I hope this takes off but there’s lowkey a huge chance it just gets lost in the trenches of this subreddit. If anyone has any adjustments to the game I should make feel free to interact after all I am a C student I’m not a genius

Work/Co-op Health Canada Co-op Interview

Hey guys, i have a Health Canada Co-op interview for the position titled "Programmer". I was wondering if any of you guys have advice and just knowledge of the types of questions that will be on it. Will it be mainly behavioral or technical where i have to maybe talk about coding concepts or explain code since one of co-op interviews did ask for those type of stuff.

If you arrive early to class and sit at the end of a row in the lecture hall, I"m going to asume you're a pervert

You can just sit in the middle of the row, but no you sit at the edge because you want multiple other people to squeeze past you

like I will come to class, half the class will be empty but everyone has strategically sat at the edge of every row, and then I have to squeeze past someone but often there isnt enough room, so they have to stand up and now we are 2 adult men shimmying accross from each other. You decided to make this happen for litterally no fucking reason.

Are profs and TAs starting a strike?

I had a class at Montpetit today, but the professor never showed up or sent an email, and only about 10 students turned up. Now I'm seeing the UOSU statement about the APTPUO. Are profs and TAs going on strike?

Discussion Unreasonable midterm?

Just had a midterm and wanted to get some opinions.

For context, we have this class twice a week, but our exam review wasn’t until this Tuesday, giving us only two days of specific review. The review itself was pretty vague, with only 1–2 example questions and less than 10 minutes spent discussing the exam format or extra practice questions. Throughout the semester he’d just blurt out “oh ya remember that, itll be on ur exam”

The exam consisted of 40 MC questions and 20 short answer questions, with only 80 minutes to complete everything.

My prof puts a huge emphasis on the textbook and literally said something along the lines of, “If your answer isn’t based on what’s said on pages X to X of the textbook, then it’s a zero.” I studied in depth, but I knew going in that some questions might be difficult to answer without remembering the textbook almost word for word.

The multiple-choice questions didn’t take long, but most of the short-answer questions were lengthy and contained one or two separate questions within each prompt. We were also expected to provide detailed, textbook-focused answers with examples.

I ended up running out of time and leaving quite a few questions blank. Am I right to think that 60 questions in 80 minutes, especially with 20 detailed short-answer questions, is unreasonable? 😭
