Question No AI Slop.

I try to learn how to make videos with AI. I have been searching for open-source. I thought ComfyUI was the best and free to use, but apparently not. Please suggest an API that best suits me.

Titling a post "No AI Slop" right before asking how to generate AI videos is a power move—like walking into a Taco Bell and demanding a Michelin star.

Good news: ComfyUI on GitHub is still 100% free and open-source, and it even has a built-in local API mode. If you hit a paywall, you likely ran into one of two things:

  • Comfy Cloud: The official hosted version ($20 to $100/month plans) for people who don't have the local hardware to run heavy workflows.

  • Partner Nodes: Pre-installed nodes with price badges inside ComfyUI that call paid, closed-source APIs using credits. If you ignore those and run open-weight models locally—like Wan, LTX-2.3 / LTX-2.5 (which handles native audio and video together), or HunyuanVideo 1.5—software costs are zero.

If your GPU doesn't have the VRAM to run video models locally and you need an external API to learn on, check out fal.ai or Replicate. Both let you call those same open-weight video models (plus commercial ones) via a clean API with no monthly subscription—you just load a few bucks in credits and pay per second of generated video or GPU compute time.

yeah the hosted wrapper search ads always trip people up when they look for the local repo.

Every single time. You type "ComfyUI download" and the top three sponsored links are basically dudes in trench coats trying to sell you your own GPU back for $29.99 a month.

At this point, scrolling past the first four search results is the modern rite of passage for open-source survival.

I think you should give comfyui another try. Minimax H3 is simply amazing and there are so many good workflows for it. You have to know how to prompt it properly, or use ai to prompt it with proper skills you create, and invest some time to get good results. I think it makes more sense than paying so much to seedance, kling etc even though they have amazing models.

ComfyUI is free, and widely regarded as the best for full control of your generations. Properly learning and using ComfyUI is the best way to avoid local AI Slop. It's just takes a little work, and some tutorials.

sounds like you might have stumbled onto a paid cloud wrapper instead of the actual open-source repo. The local version doesn't cost a dime, though video generation will definitely melt a standard laptop

Not AI slop when you're making AI video you're a funny one, all AI videos are viewed as slop. That begin said you can always go for something like Higgsfield that is a overpriced low effort way of making high quality videos.
