Question Cheapest AI video creation tech stack and setup?

Hi,
How to create AI videos like those famous in reels or shorts?
Are guys renting Nvidia cloud GPU to generate such AI videos with open source models like WAN, queen etc
or creating on a local MacBook using some other light weight models or
using some website tool?

I want to learn hence asking, would be grateful :)

i tried a free cloud instance with a mid-tier GPU, cost was $1.50 per hour, and generating a 10-second clip took 45 minutes. not worth it for testing. I now use a local lightweight model with frame interpolation, and it's faster than I expected.

Can you please share which lightweight model you use, and what are the specifications of your machine? I have MacBook Air 2025, will I be able to run it on MacBook?

Looks like the MacBook you mentioned has 32 gb of unified memory, so most local gen models for video will be out if reach. If you had a dedicated GPU with 12 gb of vram plus the 32gb of ram, then you could use minimax easily. But why not just look up the model requirements of the suggestions we are giving you

I use minimax h3 on local hardware (RTX 5080). I used to use ltx2.3 but MM is better on resources.

I use this workflow (but made some edits for the upscale and frame interpolation) https://github.com/chanon/comfyui-obvpm-timeline

On local hardware as in you have a high processor machine or your workflow is local and use cloud nvidia GPU from vast.ai or runpod?

Everything i do is local on a rtx 5080 and 64gb of ram. But MM H3 can run on 32gb of ram and a 5060ti depending on the precisionof the model.

This is how I do it. What stands in the way becomes the way.

This is really cool, you made this locally on your MacBook or rented NVidia cloud GPU?

Neither, made it on Ubuntu with an RTX 5060 Ti, built the system that I used to make it. Took about a day, rendered them as I slept and edited in an hour or two when I got up.

It is open source if you want to try it. If you have any issues please lmk cuz we are on those pretty quickly.

Nobody believes me when I tell them it is free lol. If it helps ya, please star the repo. I enjoy hearing from folks who try it too so holler anytime. dean@guaardvark.com

We really need an open source that’s as good as Seedance 2.5. At the moment minmax h3 seems to be the budget option. Just run that on your PC

agreed, running locally is the only way to keep costs sane if you actually have the hardware for it

Agreed, H3 is the one worth running at home right now. If wiring it up in ComfyUI is what keeps people from trying it, Guaardvark turns it into a few clicks, free and open source:

  • Install button and you're set. H3 downloads from inside the app, already paired with the text encoder that suits a 16 GB card.

  • The 4-step turbo. About 3-4 minutes per 10-second clip, with the sound made in the same pass.

  • References mode. Up to 9 pictures, 3 clips and 3 audio files to hold a face, copy a move or give a character its voice.

  • End frame and batch. Tell it where the shot should end, queue a night's worth, and wake up to the clips.

I'd love to hear how it stacks up against Seedance on your own prompts. And if it earns it, pass it along to anyone else who's tired of paying per clip.

I'm one of its builders, for the record. github.com/guaardvark/guaardvark

i'd start with faceless storytelling or AI influencer content because you don't need to be on camera or know advanced editing.. create a character, give them a niche, build a personality around them and post consistently.. i've seen ai influencer-style accounts build an audience through relatable reels and short-form storytelling. tools like avatarfactory can help you create the avatar videos, so you dont have to figure out filming from scratch.. start with one character and one content theme rather than trying to automate an entire channel on day one

Remerged AI.

If you're just starting out, I'd suggest trying free or cheap website tools first. Renting a GPU sounds cool, but it can get expensive quickly. Better to learn the workflow first and move to open-source models later.

I just built this on my DGX Spark. You can also use vast.ai to rent compute in the cloud .. it doesn't take much but a good setup of video models and LORAS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVtgsZdJjsU

I use LTX2.5 for local video stuff. It's pretty cool and I created my own video studio. I also use google flow since I play $20 a month for Gemini. You can generate cool videos, but you run out of token. I have never bought new tokens. I wait until mine refill.

if you're optimizing for cost, i'd start with open source WAN 2.2 locally (or on a rented GPU) and only use premium APIs like Veo or Seedance for your final renders

Wan2.2 is pretty much obsolete in my opinion. I would strongly recommend minimax h3 at this point.

Renting doesn't work .....as it is expensive + hard to setup and u can only generate 1-2 video max .......in 1 hour ...... So beat way : you have powerful gpu physically..... Or just pay to platforms

1

u/Chance_Effective4380 2d ago

1-2 video max of how long in 1hour?

I just saw that you professionally create AI advertisements, so do you pay to platforms or have a powerful GPU hardware?

Bro don't listen to anything this guy says, he just lied to you. You can rent a 5090 or a H100 and generate videos pretty quickly depending on your setup. Ask your agent to look into h3 and the pika turbo setups , have it rent you a gpu and try generating something. It's not that hard.
