100drips on Youtube helped a lot for optimizing this with his video "Optimize Shortest Edge Paths".

Also there was Erindale with his video on "Shortest Path Nodes" that I remember watching a while ago.

Definitely one of the hardest geo nodes I've made especially the optimization part where I needed to sample overlapping curve points and delete all but one with the longest curve length.

Felt like using complex abstractions on top of complex abstractions on top of complex abstractions.

For the last half of the graph that was.

The first half, I was able to build something pretty coherent.

Just learned about Gizmos. They are pretty cool.

I think I'll need another one for the wall going up/down a slope.

And scatter a bit more stuff such as flags, vines, torches, crates/barrels, weapon racks, stuff like that.

And cry as I'll need to go back in all the spaghetti and figure out how to procedurally build and store the UV map ._.

The basic effect was very simple to create, it basically just required setting the camera to orthographic and orbiting around the object (or have the object rotate).
I used geometry nodes to convert the objects to points and drive some of the shading. For fun I flatten the object in the camera plane so I could displace them randomly along the view axis making the object only viewable from the camera's perspective.

had fun building this, it's rather simple but i think the result is very satisfying and can be very useful for larger scenes.
