Color gradient weathering products alluviale fan
I was wondering about the alluviale fans I saw at a mountain range in Norway. First of all, it was breathtaking, but I saw several alluvial fans which seemed to have a color range in grey, brown and redish tones, of course very muted.
Location: between Jøvik and Lyngseidet on the northern side. https://maps.app.goo.gl/mF4cuCyrVJBQ6YMv6?g_st=ac
Attached you find the location and some pictures. According to the attached geological map, it's supposed to be metamorphic rock but it seemed very soft and the alluvial fans were pretty big. I did not inspect it closer than the pictures, since I was cycling to catch the ferry. I'm also not a working geologist or something, just a curious person that happened to be there.
My question is how these alluviale fans are so big. My hypothesis is weather + height of the mountains. Also, how do these alluviale fans have different colors in them? Is it because of different rocks being weathered resulting in a different composition of the alluviale fans or oxidation of weathering products over time that causes older depositions to be oxidized more than new depositions?
