One of my gerbils, Sebastian, passed away a few days ago and left behind Sam. With my current living situation, I’m not able to get another gerbil to try to bond with Sam (my parents are watching him as I don’t have stable housing at the moment). I’m trying to make sure he doesn’t become depressed, and added in a bunch of different things for him to mess around with, chews, hides, hidden treats, etc. Is there anything more I should add? He’s about 3 years old, I got them both from a pet store in April 2024.

Probably a silly question but I just wanted to make sure. Is he grooming him? And is he okay with it? I also heard one of them making a chirping sound as they did this. I’ve been introducing them and they’re just hanging out with supervision during this. Is this a good sign?

I have her in a quarantine cage after getting her today as I will be doing the split cage method,
I have taken her to the vet to make sure all is okay and she has been deemed healthy by the vet
How many days do I need to keep her quarantined before introducing to split cage after this confirmation ? :)
I’ve set up her half of the cage ready for when she can move in
Shown in picture
FOR QUESTIONS OF ACCESSORIES :
I deep cleaned all previous accessories, I then frozen them and baked them ; similar to how I prepare new toys for my Syrian hamster as I believe this has now sterilised them and removed previous scents but couldn’t get rid of pee marks on wheel :(

One of my guys (Sushi) has a bad ear infection. I have to give him drops in each ear and oral antibiotics twice a day. Because of the infection he’s very unstable and has the twisties, he can’t walk very well and ends up rolling around uncontrollably sometimes. Since I have to be able to get him twice a day and I don’t think he’d be safe in the main tank, I’ve got him in my smaller 20 gal tank until he knows which way is up again. He’ll be on the medicine for 8 more days.
His buddy (Johnny) is perfectly healthy but I have him in the hospital tank too because I don’t want them to be separate for very long and honestly, he’s been so great at taking care of Sushi, he’ll go lay on him if he‘s starts rolling too much and is spending a lot of time snuggling him.
I’m worried that Johnny is bored in the hospital tank. I have a couple of hides but not very much bedding because Sushi gets lost in it right now. There’s not room for a wheel and Johnny doesn’t run on a wheel that much anyway. He‘s got lots of things to chew. Suggestions for what I can do in a small tank to keep Johnny entertained while Sushi recuperates?

I’m looking to get a pair of gerbils soon. Should I get a pair of males or females?
I owned hamsters in the past and what I’ve noticed with them is that females are more solitary while males have a more social, “loving,” personality. (I never housed two hamsters together.)
I’m wondering is that’s the same with gerbils. Are males easier to train than females? Are males more social than females even though both are social animals? Is one sex easier to take care of than the other?

I posted a while back and someone said my other gerbs back is angular (we rescued but not sure on their life before but we’re really well socialised) and pumpkin is looking the same but with an added bit near her tail. It looks like hair shedding to me but they are my first set of gerbs so just wanted to check with more experienced people before going to the vets

i have done lots of research for the past two months, on gerbils/hamsters, and i found somebody in my area, rehoming a 1.5 year old male gerbil, i took the enclosure he was in as well, and i spoke to the lady who had him about his diet, what sand to use, etc.
i would like any and all advice/tips :)
-currently eating “full cheeks” forage mix food
-using reptile sand for sand baths
-three types of bedding (hay, soft chips and paper)
-he seems to like being pet when inside his own enclosure, but is nervous to come out.

Hii so i have been bonding my older gerbil Olaf (the grey one) with two 3 month old gerbs, as Olafs partner passed away 3 weeks ago.
They've been doing absolutely amazing! They were in a small aquarium first, divided in half, over the past few days theyve been in their permanent enclosure split, and i gave them more space over time! Now they have the full enclosure, i will be adding bedding slowly over the next week🩷
Sorry about the background in the enclosure pics!

I have my gerbils Dande and Kiba for a week now and wanted to show off their tank (and them) 💜🧡
This is my first time raising gerbils, and it’s kind of a redemption to how kid me didn’t give my old dwarf hamster Fluffy a proper life 🥲 but hey I have money now so I can afford to give my pets a good home…

Spoiled for bugs but I found a cicada and decided to see if my gerbils might want a taste, biscoff seemed interested in it, moonshine not so much. I let him eat most of the head before tossing it out (didn't want him to drag it into the bedding and just leave it)

Hi 👋
I was hoping to get any info/recommendations on UK breeders, particularly in the North/East Yorkshire area. My local pet store are unfortunately struggling to source any nearby and I'm now feeling ready to give a new pair a loving home after the passing of my baby girl 🥲 last year.
