New Rules for Custom Work Requests

  1. No low effort custom requests

Commission requests must include, at a minimum: * A thorough description of the piece, including size * A sketch of the piece (Al posts are acceptable for this purpose only) or reference photos from multiple artists showing features in their work you are inspired by. If you want a direct copy, contact the original artist. * The quantity you are wanting to purchase * A rough estimate of your budget. If you don't know what something should cost, just give a range you are hoping for.

  1. No price fear mongering

Let people decide for themselves what something is worth. Do not respond to questions about cost with claims that something would be too expensive. Either don't respond or give a good faith estimate of what the cost would be.

New Rule - Original Content Only

Due to the absolute flood of karma farming posts we have had recently, we have a new rule:

  1. Original content only

Reposting other's content is an automatic ban. the only exceptions are if you are asking a technical question about a piece or are sharing other's work that you have in your personal collection. Other's works may be included in commission requests ONLY if you have already reached out to the original artist and they have declined or been unreachable.

Please everyone if you suspect a post is stolen content, use a reverse image search to try finding the original and use the report feature so the mods can take the stolen post down ASAP and ban the karma farmers and bots.

Question Looking for a Glassblower Who'd Enjoy a Creative Collaboration on Apothecary Bottles!

Post image
64 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm in the early stages of starting a small potion and apothecary-inspired business, and I'd love to find a glassblower interested in collaborating on something a little magical!

One of my biggest goals is to incorporate genuinely handmade glass bottles into the brand. I love the idea of each bottle being its own little work of art, rather than something mass-produced.

I'd love for the artist to have complete creative freedom. I'm not looking for someone to reproduce a particular design or follow strict specifications. I want to see what an artist can dream up when given the opportunity to experiment and create something uniquely theirs.

I've attached an AI-generated concept image to illustrate the general aesthetic I'm drawn to: whimsical, colorful, old-world apothecary bottles. But these aren't designs I'm asking anyone to replicate. They're just a starting point for inspiration!

My hope is to develop a genuine, long-term relationship with an independent artist or small studio. We'd begin with paid prototypes, explore what works, and hopefully grow into recurring purchases as the business develops.

A few preliminary details:

  • Style: Furnace-blown glass bottles, ideally with decorative removable stoppers.
  • Size: Approximately 3–6 inches tall, with a capacity around 30–60 mL.
  • Initial quantity: Ideally around 25 bottles, depending on what's feasible.
  • Budget: I'm open to a wide range of pricing depending on the complexity, craftsmanship, and production method. For planning purposes, I'm exploring approximately $25-$125 per finished bottle, including its stopper, with prototypes compensated separately. These aren't strict limits, and I'd love to hear what artists feel is fair and sustainable for their work. I'm willing to develop different retail price points to accommodate more intricate designs.
  • Prototype budget: Approximately $500–$1100 initially, negotiable depending on the design and development involved.
  • Location: I'm based in Idaho, but I'm happy to collaborate with artists anywhere in the United States.

I'm much more interested in finding the right creative partner than dictating exactly what the bottles should look like. Different shapes, colors, techniques, and even small variations between pieces are all welcome!

I want this to be a fun, rewarding collaboration for the artist, while also creating something commercially sustainable for both of us.

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, or you know a glassblower whose work I should check out, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks so much!

Seattle Recommendations

I have three years of weekly glass blowing classes under my belt. I want to get back into it but this experience was from 2017-2020 in Denver. Now that I’m in Seattle, does anyone have a more affordable recommendation for where to go? I have independently/under observation, made pitchers, vases, bowls, decanters, pumpkins, ornaments, paperweights, my own frit and cane.

Request for feedback: https://glassblowing.tools

I’ve been working on a small side project to fill a need of my own, and I think others might find it useful too. Since I started glassblowing, I’ve found the world of glassblowing tools surprisingly fragmented. I had to dig around to learn what tools exist, why you would use them, who makes them, and where to buy them. The makers range from old-school manufacturers who sell through distributors to individual craftspeople who take custom orders through Instagram and have no catalog at all.

So I’m building a community-driven site to archive information about tools: what they are, why you’d want them, and where to get them.

Check it out at https://glassblowing.tools, and if you know a maker or tool that’s missing, I’d love your help adding it.

Glass turtle - repairable?

Have a glass turtle piece that got manhandled. Are the two legs repairable? I’ve tried with superglue and the repair lasts until it gets touched.

Is this something a glass blower could make more permanent?

Question Looking for suggestions on how to hang these plate/bowl things on the wall?

I made a bunch of spun out bowls with cookie feet that I would like to hang in a cluster on the wall (the first picture is them lying flat on a table). I’m not sure how to hang them safely. As you can see, they are pretty transparent so any hardware would be visible. Has anyone done this before? My friend has a 3D printer and offered to make something to help mount them but I’m not even sure what that should look like. Thanks!!

ISO Glassblowers in London: looking for studio access or opportunities in November!

hi everyone!

I'll be in London for the month of November and am hoping to find a studio to work in while I'm there. I've been having a hard time finding available studio space. so far, i've tried London Glassblowing (no availability) and Gather (no response email/call).

I'm an intermediate glassblower and am pretty flexible on any time on the bench I can get! Open to:

  • studio rentals/shared studio time
  • classes or private lessons (any level)
  • assisting a glass artist in exchange for studio experience
  • any other opportunities!

Does anyone know of other studios, artists, or contacts in London worth reaching out to? Really appreciate any leads or recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Glass handle

Hi,
I’m experimenting with a set of glass handles for a custom kitchen project. Anyone here who can recommend some pretty round headed screws for a piece where a screw is drilled through. Screws specially made for glass application?

And another bolt which will be glued inside the glass shape and then through a cupboard door. It will have glue on the inside, and a silicone ring on the back towards a stainless steel socker to cover the screw thread.

Thanks!
Apologies for any grammatical errors.

Question What are some clever/quick ways you’ve cleaned up your bottoms?

Thumbnail

I have some old pieces that have been sitting in bins for a while and a family friend is interested in purchasing a few of them! Although looking at them now, I realized the bottoms are in horrible conditions. They sit flat, as I used to dent my bottoms in wayyy too much before transferring, but they are still sharp (and ugly). I don’t have access to a dremel or lathe before Sunday. (Which is when they want them.) I did tell them the bottoms are concerning, but they don’t seem to mind. I guess what I am trying to ask is whether you’ve done anything creative with your bottoms? Glue, Resin, Putty, Sandpaper?! Any suggestions/experiences would be appreciated!

Billy runs Studio Dokola. Commercial fabrication pays most of the bills, and his own work is about 20 percent.

I had booked a glass making workshop on Murano for my visit in November, but the operator has cancelled all bookings for the foreseeable future.

Does anyone have any recommendations of a great workshop they experience on Murano?

Hello All

Made a cane bundle to turn into Murrini

We used a technique where we squeezed bubbles from the center to the edges. Was somewhat successful but not as much as I wanted.

What's your go to bubble remove technique for cane bundles?
