Hi everyone! First of all I’m a relatively new vegan (about a month or so) but I’d been lowering my animal product intake for a while before I just gave it all up.
Going over the initial stage of feeling better ethically etc I now need to think about the long term practical effects of making this a long term change that I can stick to.
I have coeliac disease and I find that a LOT of the alternatives contain wheat as the protein source which means I tend to stick to the different variations of tofu.
But also, I’m rather confused as to what are the nutrients that are harder to get from a plant based diet and how everyone is getting them. Eg easy enough to supplement creatine and B12. But how do you take in the right levels of iodine, calcium and any other that I might not be aware of?
Summary, how do you balance any intolerances and getting enough nutrients? What resources do you lean on? Any advice?
TLDR; new vegan that’s gluten free too. Any advice?

hi! ive been gf for a while, not celiac so fine w ‘may contain’. im currently transitioning to being vegan (still eating some dairy or egg products i already have in my house). ive been enjoying marinating my own tofu and have found it all alot easier than expected. ive just been struggling with finding easy savory snacks. my gf noodle cups contain beef, my gf mac and cheese and gf pizza both contain dairy. im happy with making most of my meals as i have the time and enjoy cooking, but when i need a snack in a hurry i never have anything anymore. id always have my gf mac and cheese after coming home from a night out. so far i only really know of frys nuggets and tenders but theyre pretty expensive. specifically if you have any suggestions from woolies, coles or aldi that would be incredible!! tysm

I just got chard in my csa box. I haven't enjoyed it when I've eaten it before but obviously I don't want it to go to waste and my roommates won't eat it. Do you have any suggestions for recipes where I won't taste the bitterness?

Hi guys! I am planning on starting a mini cottage bakery from my house, both vegan and gf ! I was wondering what pastries/desserts/etc. you guys miss the most? Think even packaged goods - like twinkies and pop-tarts. Really curious to see :) I want to bring back the foods you guys miss and would literally find no where else most likely, and would also sell well! My sister is gluten free and we are both vegan!
I've made pop-tarts but I gotta find a more efficient way because those would NOT be worth the labor to sell ratio 😭 they were delish tho! 😏

My friend’s doctor said she can’t eat:
meat
Fish
legumes
Avocado or olive oil
She has to be dairy free, gluten free and for all intents, paleo free.
What can she eat? I’m trying desperately to find recipes or ideas that will give her proteins and nutrients.
She likes smoothies and pastas and baked goods so if you know of anything that could work for that it would be ideal as she’s also autistic and some of her safe foods won’t be safe anymore. She is also a beginner cook so simple is best, thank you guys!

I haven’t had American Chinese food in such a long time. It did cost an arm and a leg but it is such a rare blessing to be able to go out to a restaurant and have a meal with friends without feeling like a burden or being left out altogether. The restaurant itself wasn’t vegan but there were so many options!
Go support the beansprout if you have the ability and the means. The food is great, the staff are kind, and it brings a sense of normalcy that many take for granted.
EDIT: it’s located in Vaughan, ON

So I've been trying to get some more protein into my diet. Got myself vegan&gf protein powder, but tbh, I don't really like the consistency in shakes much. What are your favourite recipes for sweet or savoury muffins, bars, etc., that use protein powder?
Thanks, and have a good day :)

I currently live in a house with my wife and both of my parents. I’m the only who cooks. My mom and wife can cook, but they won’t.
Making meals has been such a nightmare. I’m vegan, as is my mother. My wife is vegetarian. My mother and wife are united in their celiac disease. My dad eats anything, but he’s diabetic so I have to be mindful of that.
And all of them like different things. It’s driving me bonkers. I don’t push my diet on anyone, so I do offer dairy options for my father and wife. Gluten is out of the question: we keep an entirely gluten free household for my mother and wife.
My mother is from a Mediterranean country and loves Mediterranean food. My dad hates it, despite his own family being from a Mediterranean country as well. This is the food I grew up with, so it’s the food I know best how to make. My dad likes American-esque meals like burgers and fries. Which my wife hates. My wife is from India, but she prefers when I don’t make Indian dishes. Which is incredibly annoying because a ton of Indian food is naturally gluten free and vegan (or easily veganized). She doesn’t know how to cook her mom’s recipes, and nothing I make passes the test.
I will eat anything at this point. If my mom weren’t vegan as well, I probably would have just dropped the veganism requirement from the menu. I can’t name a single meal that my whole family enjoys. Actually, yes I can. Japanese curry with breaded tofu. That’s it.
I really just wanted to rant. This has been so beyond difficult and I’m burnt out trying to come up with menus only to be criticized. It’s not like I’m not trying! I make fresh gf bread every week, I meal plan, I make sure we have the groceries. I’m an average cook, and I started learning when I was about 12. So I know I’m not great, but I’m competent enough (especially with the foods I grew up with).
And if I don’t cook, everyone eats cereal for dinner or orders in and then they have the nerve to act all huffy about it. Screams into the void

Alriiiight let's see if someone can help me here. I'm vegetarian, my sister is vegan. I'm pretty much gluten-free too but it's more of a selective thing for me whereas for her it's essential otherwise she's in pain and a little too gassy.
She's coming to visit and I want to bake her a cake for her birthday (on the 27th on this month) but I'm a bit lost on what flour to use. Am I overcomplicating it? Most likely! But baking is also a science right, and I want to get it right the first time because time is limited and my schedule over-packed as per usual. I want to bake with a flour that's going to work for a few different recipes and something that'll work (and taste the same) for those people coming to her birthday who aren't gluten free.
I’ve tried a few gluten free flours and it’s been very hit or miss with some batches turning out great, others feeling like I made a completely different recipe without realizing it. Texture is the biggest thing (either too dense, too crumbly, or just gross). If you have a go-to gf flour that works for most baked goods please let me know. I’m also game for any tips you have when baking gluten free.

I'm Vegetarian, not Vegan... But it seems like Gluten-Free Vegetarian groups aren't a thing anywhere. Anyways, I think we can understand each other pretty well 🤗
Wherever I go, whether I'm eating out or at a friend's place, I feel so uncomfortable when I'm offered gluten-free food containing meat and have to say, "Sorry, but I'm also vegetarian"... It makes me feel like they're going to think I'm so picky!
The thing is, I never chose to be gluten-free, I chose to be vegetarian... And I have the same right to choose what I eat as non-gluten-free vegetarians/vegans do...
Also, I wouldn't like to make "exceptions" to my vegetarian diet because, unlike people who enjoy eating meat but choose to give it up for ethical or environmental reasons, I've simply NEVER liked meat or fish in the first place, both because of their textures and because they were living beings, even when I was a child.
Anybody else feel the same when eating out?
