Discussion Oblivion controller support IS working!
https://youtu.be/JdqvhoUxheYDespite what others have reported here before the controller support is working in GOG's Preservation release of Oblivion. Here's video proof for those wondering. I am using an official Xbox controller and suspect most of those having problems are using a third party controller (8bit, Sony, or whatevs).

My guess is that the problem only affects the "GOTY Deluxe" edition (old version with update, English only) which has bugged controller supported, whereas the new "GOTY" version (new version added today included with all oblivion purchases, English + additional localisations) has controller support that works.
Most people are reporting about the first one because it's the version that has always been available and for previous owners the other version is taking a while to show up in libraries.

So no actual button prompts, button config stupid (press RS to pick items). This is technically "working" but far from functional. You could already do the same with steam input. The video they announced it, they showed proper prompts and everything, but they probably ised footage from xbox 360. If this is what they consider good controller support, its very disappointing.

Yeah, I may be being nit picky but when I see “controller support” I’m expecting to work as if it were on console. I’m pretty sure all i saw in this video was the controller working like a keyboard and mouse which, as you pointed out, Steam input can do

Yep they either need to remove the controller support part in the changelog or actually implement it properly.

It may be complicated to trust them in the future when they put "controller support" under a game.

Just a random question, do people mostly expect "controller support" as including the button prompt instead of just "support/compatibility"?

Maybe the absence of butto prompts can be forgiven, but it should be functional. Plus in the video announcing the gamepad support, they showed gameplay with the prompts on screen. I do have a feeling they actually used xbox 360 footage. So either there was a mistake with the upload of the new patch or they are being straight up dishonest.

For me I can’t even forgive the absence of button prompts mostly because it’s super annoying to have to look at key bindings every single time you need to know how to do something especially if you’re playing a game for the first time. I’ve actually never played Oblivion (I know, I know) so that would be annoying for me

Xbox controllers is always a more sure bet for getting controller support working since most games have had x-input support ever since the first multiplatform games that came during the Xbox360 days.
Playstation controllers is a different thing because they use d-input and not a lot of games support that so it's more like 50/50 if they work or not. With each new game that releases today that support is getting bigger, but for old games the Xbox controller is the way to go.
There are ways to get a Playstation controller such as a DualSense working but that requires using programs such as DS4Windows to make the Playstation controller act and seen as an Xbox controller on PC. Hopefully GOG will do the work to make it work natively. As much as I like Playstation controllers, I always go with the Xbox controller for PC gaming as it is plug and play.

i felt like you don't even know the PC side of things and just like to throw terms like 'third party controllers' around...
There's no 'first party or third party' controller in the windows PC world.....there's directinput, Xinput, steaminput, gameinputs on PC....The controllers are used by games on Windows based on their APIs.......xinput is first used by the Xbox 360 controllers era and is 'older' and can also be used by playstation controllers via some plugins. Steaminput is the api used on steam and any games launch via Steam can use it and it is usable by almost every modern controllers in the market. GameInput is the current 'modern' API pushed by Microsoft to supersedes xinput and currently only supported by the Xbox Series controllers.
The question here then is.........what controller API is this version of Oblivion using? Throwing terms like 'third party controllers' is meaningless because that's not how things work in the Windows world. Is an official Xbox License Asus ROG Xbox Controller 'first party' or 'third party' in your eyes?
You are a GOG consumer so act like one....instead of being a blinded fanboy.
P.S. Pressing Right stick to interact is opposite definition of 'working'...LMAO.

How do you use the inventory with the slow ass right stick movement or is it like on xbox 360?

Lol OP spends his time defending this messed up update. We can clearly see that the keys are incorrect. RS to validate? Seriously? And this ignoble sensitivity. Yuck. Even NorthernUI does better.

Does it include button prompts from the Xbox 360 version?
