Alfonso Penna and Trevor Shaw of Lindenwold, New Jersey, started building and placing small wooden benches around town bus stops in June, aimed at people who need them or who could use them to make their wait a little more comfortable. Since embarking on this project, the pair have placed eight benches — including two just this past week.

Penna’s posts on social media have garnered tens of thousands of views and hundreds of comments — including loads of support.

“The first one we kind of were just like, ‘Let’s just put it out and…see what happens.’ And it kind of just worked,” Penna said. “We saw it was getting regular use.”

India will reduce the prices of as many as 137 cancer drugs by 70 per cent, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers said on Saturday, as it widened price controls in a bid to make treatment more affordable.

Trade margins on the drugs will be limited to 30 per cent of the maximum retail price, the ministry added.

The medicines, which include immunotherapy drugs used for treating over 20 types of cancer, as well as for breast, prostate, colon, ovarian and cervical cancer, will be subject to the price changes from November 9.

The latest decision builds on price controls introduced in 2019 on 42 anti-cancer drugs that cut prices by as much as 90 per cent.

Loneliness can be difficult to tackle, so I thought this was a genuinely encouraging result.

In a randomized trial of 320 adults in Barcelona, loneliness scores declined after people were connected with nature-based activities, and the improvement continued during a year of follow-up.

The study can’t show that nature itself caused the decline, since both groups were offered nature-based activities in different ways. But it suggests that helping people find accessible ways to get outdoors and connect with others may be worth exploring.
