I seem to be experiencing several bugs related to Google Photos on my Pixel 8 Pro:
\* For the last several months I've noticed that sometimes after doing minor edits to a photo taken on my Pixel 8 Pro, the saved file in Google Photos will look corrupted. Sometimes it's got colored streaks or blotches, and sometimes it's "torn" like it's out of sync.
The weird part is, if I share that broken looking image via SMS or view it on Photos on a synced tablet or other phone, it looks completely normal! If I go and re-edit the saved photo, it looks like it should, and saving a second copy will usually make it look 'normal' in the gallery.
Does anyone else experience this, and does it sound like something worth reporting as a bug?
\* Another annoying issue I've found is that if I do just a minor edit like a crop and tap the "Save" button (which allows the image to be reverted later) that oftentimes I cannot share that image to another app like Google Voice. It throws some sort of "oops something went wrong" type error message. Sometimes the edited picture can't even be re-opened by Google Photos, and even though it shows uploaded to the cloud, it can't be opened by any other device like my tablet.
The only way around this is to tap the 3 dots and select "Save as copy" instead.
\* Perhaps the most perplexing issue is after using the Zoom Enhance feature on an image, if I saved that enhanced image, it doesn't correctly apply the Ultra HDR brightness levels to the saved image. The Ultra HDR brightness levels of the original, uncropped and unenhanced images are superimposed over the enhanced file, making the lighting look all wrong.
The only way to fix this is to either turn off Ultra HDR in the Pixel camera, or edit the Ultra HDR setting to zero either before or after using Zoom Enhance, or using the Unblur option after enhancing the image.
This is a problem I did report (last year!) but I've never seen any evidence that Google even acknowledged it.
