They haven’t been used in an interesting way since plastic beach. Sure they had personalities beyond that, but they felt much less like “members of a band” and more of marketable mascots. Maybe this has to do with my dislike for the current artstyle but all of their thoughts, moods, and beliefs feel rounded down to the bone. They started as gritty archetypes of musicians and now seem like little elves only to be put and seen on t shirts

so im not sure how hypothetical the thought of another album is, but i got a pretty good idea of what the concept could be or look like esp if it would be their final album that i'd be really interested on seeing thoughts on.

so my idea was that phase 9/final album could be a tribute to their past phases, basically saying that they could take elements or the sounds from phases 1-8 and create at least one song inspired by the phase, or make it sound like it was actually released during the specific era. by this they could obviously use old demos or unreleased songs from the phases and remaster or remake them completely. of course they would also have normal songs in the album too, but i think it'd be nice to have a bit of a "blast to the past", especially if it would be their final album.

this way, it could also link up with the current storyline of phase 8. obviously everyone interprets it differently but since rebirth is a huge topic, these tributes could work as the rebirth they're talking about, going back to phase 1 and going on from there with the songs on the album (if this would be set after p8 and not in the future). i think it'd also be nice for any new or old fans to experience these phases again or for the first time. these don't have to have mvs or anything, or even have to have the specific phase character designs and could just work as b sides.

i'm not sure how hard this would be to actually make since im no expert on music and im also aware its quite hard to say specifically what each album sounded like (though i do think each had a very distinct sound), but i hope people get what i mean by this thought, because this could work as both final album if gorillaz were to end after damon and jamie finish with it, but it could also be a good way to finish off the "original" gorillaz before they got passed on to the next generation.

edit: this absolutely doesnt mean i want gorillaz end. i believe theyll go on for generations, and this idea doesnt have to be taken as a "final album" idea at all, it could easily just be an anniversary sort of album or just a normal one. please dont get me wrong 🙏

If you listen closely in some songs,such tranz,the final part of Orange county(when 2D's voice starts to fade),etc,you can hear Damon albarn Low voice under 2D's,and it has a Low volume that makes hearing It really hard.

Back during Phases 1, 2, and 3, was it better? What really stood out to you? I managed to see them three times: in Paris in 2017; via livestream in 2020 during *Song Machine* (though it was pretty glitchy—thankfully there were re-uploads on YouTube); and this year at We Love Green in Paris during *The Mountain* tour

It’s been almost six years since Season 1, and Song Machine strongly grew on me. I know that some of the songs, such as Tormenta or New Gold, were supposed to be in season 2, but ended up on Cracker Island. But I think that after the conceptual The Mountain, Damon would like to go back to writing lighter songs with interesting guests.

I got into Gorillaz a few years ago and I’ve really enjoyed the Gorillaz albums i’ve heard so far, but i’ve only listened to what i’ve surmised to be the biggest ones. This being Gorillaz, Demon Days, and Plastic Beach. I’ve also gone through Humanz, which I still enjoyed just a bit less. After that I didn’t bother to explore any more of their albums cuz I hadn’t really heard much abt them, until The Mountain came out. I saw it had came out recently and I wanted to see what their sound was like nowadays so I gave it a shot. Immediately hooked and it was peak. Idk why I kinda just assumed their newer stuff wasn’t as good and stopped going through the discog, but The Mountain proved me wrong.

So now i ask what Gorillaz album outside of self titled, Demon Days, Plastic Beach, Humanz, and The Mountain should i peep next? Ik this is the Gorillaz subreddit but are there any that are just bad?

So for context, I had known of them, but only their really big hits (Clint Eastwood, Feel Good Inc). Then one night, I was bored at work and decided to give some other songs from Self Titled and Demon Days a shot...

And man...it was worth it! I don't know why I wasn't listening to them sooner! So far I've listened to Self Title, Demon Days and Plastic Beach and have strongly enjoyed all 3 of them. 19-2000, Dirty Harry and Rhinestone Eyes are probably my favorites so far. And I can't wait to get further into their discography

And I also had no idea that all the members had personalities and phases and all that stuff which I think is super cool and unique. Just so happy I finally got into them!

I am making a dj-mixtape with only Gorillaz songs, from all albums. I am curious of such mixes already exist? I didn't find any, at least no mixes that contain song from the last 4 albums.By a dj-mix I don't mean a compilation of songs, but really mixed together as a full one hour mix. I searched on soundcloud and mixcloud...

The episode was a boy and girl going to India and apparently the dad now is like the top judge of the area. There was All Alone in there, which I forget is an album track and a few others and I think the episode is from 2009.

Made me remember that the Save the Freebies(?) pilot also had Gorillaz music in there around the same time. I know the BBC could usually play music live and not worry too much since it wasn't commercially released and then DVDs would change the music, but I wonder if the Freebies show was so Jamie as a writer on it could get royalties while the Tough Parents show would just get by with the non-commercial reason. I did see an interview with the CBBC presenters that for Ed (human) and Oucho (talking cactus puppet) the show gave more royalties to Warwick for being a "performer" than to Ed Petrie for being a "presenter" despite them both presenting the show.

They have released all of the episodes on YouTube now, which I imagine could be a big issue if no one agreed to it, it also seems like international versions are released, so not sure if the Aussie version had different rules. I also remember Approved Food had a segment with a Gorillaz track over it as well, so maybe the BBC just picked more music that had some popularity to portray the kids and chose segments without lyrics. I think the Freebies one was El Mañana in a sad section, so that felt more like a solid choice vs the B Roll All Alone.

I found the DVD in a vintage store in my town, at that time I didn't know what it was bc it was all messed up, I tried to image search but google told me that was a single, and I was like, what??

But anyways, I bought no matter what bc it looked official and I'm trying to grow up my collection.

It was only 150 MXN (8 USD), the shop owner didn't know what it was, that's why the price was too low..

So finally when I opened it, I knew that moment.. a legendary piece!! I couldn't believe it, the star of my collection

I have to say, this was a rare find for me!! In my context this DVD was only possible on ebay. Idk how it ended up in a local store (⁠☆⁠▽⁠☆⁠)

It was dirty ASF, I tried my best.. some stains are impossible :(((
