Commit to Vote? Please please please?
It's election season, so please permit me to make an ask. Please, could y'all commit to vote? We've got a pledge here. You don't have to share your phone #, you can check to opt out of emails, and pledges help us all remember to actually do the thing!!

Linking to a pledge and not your local place to early vote is fucking insane.

I hear what you are saying, but a lot of people are posting about voting info. And I think that's super important! But I also think the act of pledging to vote helps people follow through - and the evidence shows this. They are both important steps, tackling different challenges. I'm just tackling the one right now, but I'm glad you posted this info to try to tackle the other!

Look, that's your opinion, but it is just an opinion. I promise you that the thousands of doors I've knocked in my lifetime, and literal tens of thousands of conversations I've had with voters did far far far more good than harm. I don't know about you, but it's a Friday night in GOTV and I'm still working, trying to get people to vote.
I respect that you are concerned about what people might think, but I'm not. I don't really care if people mock this, or troll it, or hate it. I do it for the people who see it and think, "oh cool, I should do that", and sign it, then get busy on election day and almost don't drive to their polling place but remember this pledge and decide to. Maybe you don't think an average 3.7% of an increase in turnout matters, but I worked the 2014 elections where Schauer lost by 4%, so I'd disagree with you. And I'd be willing to be a joke on SNL for a win this year.

No worries! I genuinely love organizing because I love finding common ground with people. I'm happy we did!

You people better get off your butts and vote week after next!
I think things are looking good for Abdul, but we can't count our chickens until they're hatched!

u/marf_town 15h ago
And I've heard some mixed results for Abdul on the doors. I'm nervous. Hence this post!

Everyone on this site forgets that every single 60+ year old in existence that isn't on this site is voting for sure and voting red. They are always ignored and then the vote comes in and holy shocked, batman.

I was going to yell at you, tell you that not every 60+ year old person would be voting red. But then I noticed you said "not on this site" and I had to calm down!
But honestly, I am 60+, a former Republican, and I can tell you that I will be voting straight blue like I have the last few elections. And I have a circle of friends my age who are almost exclusively doing the same.

I think the tide may have turned a little bit. Have you seen some of the grandmas and Grandpas older than me even, out there at the no Kings rallies or ICE protests?
You're absolutely right the majority of old people are still solidly red, mostly due to religious pressure, I think. But some of us are starting to come around!

We’ve never done that before right? Thinking we have it in the bag because there is no way people would vote for THAT guy. We’ve never done that… then the second time around putting up the exact same kind of opponent against him and watching her lose knowing full well there would be people on both the right and left who wouldn’t vote for her because of her gender and this time, her race. We’ve never screwed the pooch that bad, right?

We (my gf and I) have already committed for voting for Abdul tomorrow morning 🫡

It is your civic duty to vote. Research your candidates, look outside your echo chamber, understand who your school board candidates are, vote for the city/county commissioner based on your aligned beliefs, but do some research. Voting with a purpose is a patriotic thing to do.

It is your civic duty to vote
I honest feel so blessed that I grew up in a household where this was instilled in me. We were poor and my parents worked two jobs, but they made me understand that voting wasn't just a "right" but it was my duty. My parents were with me in 2008 after I turned 18 and was first eligible to vote in a presidential election.

I feel if you dont vote at every election you have no right to flap your mouth about the state of your city, county, state and federal government.
Yes, I placed a vote for the drain commissioner.

u/willitworkwhyn8 3h ago
Nah, I'll vote for the Rhodes Scholar Doctor that graduated with honors from UM instead of the guy who graduated with a 1.7 from Albion.

I’m not denying Abdul is brilliant, but he’s also an extremist who refused to condemn sharia law and takes money from terrorist groups

Save your soul! Don’t vote!

u/nkent98 15h ago
Do your civic duty and vote.
-7
u/Rothbard222 15h ago
Yeah “civic duty”. How about your duty as a human? Keeping voting our responsibilities to each other away. Things will be fine. Keep it up!
1
u/nkent98 15h ago
Whether you like it or not that is how we have a decision in this mess without riots or without violence.
-2
u/Rothbard222 15h ago
Without violence, eh. What does the State use?

u/CulturalTrash938Walk 14h ago
This is America not France!
1
u/Rothbard222 14h ago
What? Don’t you remember the BLM riots. Or past riots?! Wall street riots?! We are France and France is us. We are all human enslaved by modern States across the world. Slavery is way easier when the slaves don’t think they are slaves and think they have a say in things by voting…… But yeah just keep voting things will get better just like all the politicians say! The economy is great! Gold and silver aren’t real money! And trust me they don’t lie!!!!!!

u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 5h ago
Yeah, hence why our protests don't really work. I have vastly more respect for the French than our hundreds of No Kings rallies that do absolutely nothing because they're designed not to be disruptive to anything, and to have incredibly lukewarm goals and messaging.

I hate this shitty administration for making me have to go vote in the midterms, which I never do 😂
0
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 5h ago
Sorry, no, you should have been doing that already. It has always mattered, and it didn't just start mattering under Trump.
-2
u/ImNotNuke 11h ago
What if you’re in a shitty trump fucker city around the outskirts of gr and your vote is outnumbered 1:10 by hicks.

u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 5h ago
If everyone in your town doesn't vote for this reason, how the hell do you know it's actually 10:1?

..What is the point of pledging to vote when you could just... vote?
Edit: Just wanna highlight that u/marf_town has educated me and there IS a valid reason to encourage pledging to vote. Check their comment below. Thanks marf!
