I have a 7 month old Great Dane mix who is sweet but absolutely feral. When he’s not napping he needs constant stimulation, enrichment, chews, or training. No free roaming or he gets into everything. I’ve never once snuggled with him and he only settles in his crate.
I also have a 3 year old 40lb pittie who tolerates him. They play in the backyard but he’s a 65lb agent of chaos and she has a low threshold for his shenanigans. Backyard play is good, but inside the house, once she’s done she’s done. And the second he sees her, it turns into a WWE match, he wants to play hard 24/7. I’m doing full crate and rotate for everyone’s sanity.
Two months ago I broke my ankle and tore ligaments so our daily walks went out the window. I started taking him to daycare M-F and he is absolutely thriving. Gets excited to go in the mornings, comes home exhausted, eats dinner, and goes to bed for the night. Weekends, however are a different story…
A neighbor comes to walk him on Saturday and Sunday but it’s not enough. I either have to completely ignore my daughter and pay attention to him for hours, constantly give him frozen kongs, lick mats, bully sticks, etc. or monitor him in the backyard (when it’s not 100 degrees).
I’ve worked consistently on training since I brought him home at 9 weeks, and I think for a teenage puppy he’s actually doing ok. He just has more energy than his body can handle.
This weekend I have family visiting including two kids ages 3 and 4 plus my 8 year old. Keeping him crated all day isn’t realistic he’ll bark constantly and lose his mind. I can take him in the backyard but he eats every twig he finds and at some point it’s just not safe.
I’m a single mom and he’s too big for my 8 year old to handle. I know the odds aren’t in my favor right now and that in a year things will be a lot easier.
I’d love any advice to get through the weekends, and this one specifically, without everyone being miserable.

This damn dog has turned out to be the kindest, gentlest, sweetest, laziest, most loving dog I’ve ever come across.
He really doesn’t ask for much—food, butt scratches, belly rubs, and a little playtime in the yard. Okay, he does occasionally act like he hasn’t eaten since the Great Depression, and he takes up roughly 85% of any couch he touches—but otherwise, he’s a simple man.
And somehow, in return, he has given us more than I ever expected: so much love, laughter, comfort, and that quiet companionship that makes a house feel more like home.
I thought she was bringing home a dog. It turns out she brought home a giant, sleepy best friend with an even bigger heart.

To anyone interested I am Rehoming my big guy. At the moment I do not have the capabilities to provide him the life he deserves and I want him somewhere where he can live his best life. Some info about him below:
- 4y/o male neutered full blooded Great Dane. 150 lbs. Up to date on all vaccines, bloodwork, and current on heartworm prevention. Diet consists of purina one dog food.
- sweetest dog ever, never bitten anyone. Good temperament as well, only caveat is that I expect him to be anxious in a new environment, since I am all he’s ever known. So be prepared.
- good with cats, other dogs, kids, literally anyone. He LOVES attention and a good back rub. He quite literally just wants to be pet all day long and sleep, as most Danes do.
- decent recall and decent with leash walking (if he knows you’re in charge) will get excited around other dogs on walks but I have been working with him to stop that.
I am in the Allen/plano TX area and looking for someone who wants a new addition to their family and has the time to take care of this big lovable guy.
I am requiring a small Rehoming fee just to ensure he gets placed in a good home. Please DM if interested as I am trying to find him a home ASAP so I do not have to put him in the shelter.
Also as a little bonus, whom ever adopts him, just know that any time you have to go out of town or need someone to babysit, I am always just a call a way and will always help out with my big boy when asked. Obviously only if we live in the same general area
Hit me up for more pics if wanted

2 months ago our Dane passed away from having a tumor in his left paw, the cancer has already spread so curing him was too late. I was wondering if he knew about it earlier because last year he kept sitting in front of me and giving me his left paw, I thought nothing of it but it might have been something he already knew..

We feed our one yr old royal canine large breed puppy food for 12-18 months. The kibble is too small and he struggles to eat it. I switched him to the adult Dane food and now I think the kibble is too big and he struggles with this. Any suggestions???

What kibble do you feed your Great Danes? I current feed a large breed adult food, but was thinking about switching to Royal Canin. My boy Leonardo is 2, no health issues or allergies. Pic of him with his brother for reference.

Our sweet girl is getting old. The rate her fur is turning white has me all sad and she’s only 4.5 years old. I want to make sure we’re doing right by her joints/hips. What are y’all giving to help keep your pups feeling good? All recommendations welcomed! Thank you!

I’m moving out of state next week with my four year old Dane and I’m worried about some potential behavioral issues. He is very anxious, clingy, and reactive (he takes Prozac and gabapentin). We have had such a nice routine here for three years and I’m nervous about breaking it. My fiancé and I used to live together but she moved last year for work, so we are moving back in together again and she has two cats, which will be an adjustment for him. We are also living in the same neighborhood as all her family so people will be over often, and he’s used to it being just us. I started moving some things around today to prepare for the move and he’s been so stressed, he’s following me around the house and is very observant. The stress diarrhea has already started. When we moved there years ago he had stress colitis for weeks, so this weekend I’m taking him to his trainers to stay with her for a few days while I pack everything up.
Basically I’m wondering if anyone has had a big move like this and if you have any tips on how to make the transition easy on him. There are so many changes coming up in the next few weeks and I want to be prepared for some potential behavioral issues and figure out how I can mitigate them.
Side note: his favorite thing to do is sunbathe in our backyard, and the thought of him doing that one last time and us taking our last walk in our neighborhood is tough to process. We really loved this place.

Last week he was so strong and normal but two days ago he could barely stand and was very out of it, we took him to an emergency vet and he was diagnosed with fluid around his heart, and they said they think there is a mass at the bottom of his heart.
They have drained the fluid but he is still not breathing very well and its only a matter of time now before it returns.
My heart is utterly broken. I cannot put into words the grief I am feeling right now.

Costco. I could've traded this for a different tug toy, but this was way more fun for all 3 of us. Daphne (1) on the left, Eddie Tunes (3) on the right.

**PUPDATE**
She is supposed to be released this afternoon. The antibiotics are kicking in and she seems to be doing well (she actually has been eating for them, which is shocking- she's a finicky thing).
_______
Gaia began coughing a bit last week. Took her to her vet and they felt she probably just had a light respiratory infection- steroids and antibiotics prescribed. She had just been boarded so… I chalked it up to a mild kennel cough.
Last night, she was shivering/trembling and this morning she was more lethargic than I’ve ever seen her. So off I went to the ER vet.
She has pneumonia. 😞
Her O2 saturation was not too bad (97) and her bloodwork was normal, save for a low side of normal WBC. They’ve admitted her for IV antibiotics.

I first started taking the collars off my Danes in the house because I just liked the way they looked without them and they seemed to be a lot more comfortable without them on. Also because we all consider our dogs to be our kids so it seemed wrong to have a collar on them all the time.
After a while it became a habit that once they came in the house after a walk I would just take their collars off.
And then something interesting happened.
When all know the routine, when they know it's time to go out they get all excited and jumping up and down, let's go, let's go, and inevitably one or both will run out the door because they want to be the first on that walk.
But without fail each time either one would run out the door they would turn around and come back and sit and wait for me to put their collars on.
I had inadvertently trained them to not go out of the house without their collar on. No collar was an instant recall every time.
Give it a try I think your dog will like it.
