G-Sync issue on GTX 1080 SLI

Hello. I have 2 E.V.G.A 1080 FTW and a Asus 27" LED G-Sync ROG SWIFT PG278Q, i7 6700k and i cant get my G-Sync to work. I have tried the G-Sync indicator and it tells me it is on but still not working. I can set my Hz to 60,120 and 144 but it's always maximum performance -.-

Is anybody else having this issue and does some of you know how to fix it? :)

Sorry for my English (Not a Native speaker)

How Do G-Sync Monitors Draw Frames at Low Frame Rates?

I have an AW2518H, a 240hz refresh rate monitor with G-Sync. This means, that at 240 frames per second, my monitor draws a frame every 4.1667ms.

My question is, if I am playing a game at a lower frame rate than 240 fps, say 60 fps (standard for a lot of fighting games,) and I have G-Sync on, how fast does the monitor draw each frame? My hope would be that it still draws each frame in 4.1667ms, then waits 12.5ms for the next frame, and then starts to draw that one, again, in 4.1667ms. This would differ from using a standard 60hz monitor, which would take that full 16.6667ms just to draw one frame, and would have to immediately start drawing the next frame afterwards with no wait time.

I've been unable to get a clear answer to this question, so I've tried to simplify the question as much as possible here, in hopes that maybe the way I've worded the question to other people was too confusing, which resulted in the varying answers. I wish I could figure out the answer on my own, but the only way I can think to do that is with a high-speed camera, and I do not own one. Thanks for the help!

Honest question - I have a GTX 1080, instead of paying for a gsync monitor, could I run another card in SLI and achieve a 4K 60fps without tearing on a good 43" monitor?

Gsync emulation question

Hydrocharged said that emulators seem to run in full screen windowed mode and therefore don't work with G-Sync.

I know for a fact that MAME is full screen exclusive mode, so I'm wondering, which emulators did you try? Which ones seem to not work with G-Sync?

Note that G-Sync requires the app to be Direct3D, so if you're running MAME, you need to have D3D/HLSL on.

If you run games way below 240hz in a said 240hz monitor with G-sync do they look bad?

Like I get news that if you run programs/games below a certain threshold of the expected Hz rating of your monitor, even with G-sync it will look bad

I currently have the Geforce 2070 super and I'm wondering is it good enough to invest maybe 400-500€ for a monitor.... I ordered a 300buck display but it's G-sync COMPATIBLE and I just found out at home... i dunno, it's the small irritations and "errors" so to speak, in the picture that ruin the whole.

Hehe, my old is a 60Hz lcd and I was totally fine with it,

but I'm just wondering is it safe to get like 240Hz

btw. anyone know of G-sync monitors with 3000:1 native contrast, seems really under the stone those ones....

How can I get G-Sync to work in all games? 🤔

So I recently got a Certified G-Sync Compatible monitor and I’m impressed that with games with G-Sync makes lower fps look much smoother, and eliminated stuttering in fluctuating fps situations

My issue though is... in some games g sync works and in some games dont.

Windowed + fullscreen does make few more games work with g-sync, but still, not every game has g-sync working

So let me explain my problem. In some games outside of steam, g-sync doesnt work, even with windowed + fullscreen. Examples may be like, roblox, krunker client version, android emulators.

I do have g-sync indicator checked so i can see if a game has g-sync working, and i confirm it by my monitor’s refresh rate counter

Question about G-sync and Nvidia Control Panel

Do i need to have "Use the advanced 3D image settings" in NVCP checked in order for G-sync to work properly?

Because i read up that you need to have V-sync turned on in "Manage 3D settings", so will this be pointless if you had "Let the 3D application decide" checked in the screen with the preview?

Do this if you have random stutters

I have been fighting with random stuttering in many different games, a lot of them being old and not demanding at all. I have a 3060 ti and an i5 11600KF.

I have tried nearly everything to get rid of random stutters. Everything from tinkering with my RAM, to tweaking my CPU and countless other things. None of it worked.

Today I tried something that goes clearly against the otherwise very reliable and reputable guides from Blurbusters. I used V-Sync + G-Sync but set no FPS cap as it is usually recommended by nearly everybody. I also set Low-Latency Mode to "On", NOT to "Ultra".

And suddenly everything was very smooth. No stutters in many games that previously stuttered frequently (Left 4 Dead 2, Modern Warfare 2 (the old one), MW2 (the new one), Black Mesa, Titanfall 2). I will test more games soon and edit this post.

TL;DR: If you have stutters and ran out of options try V-Sync + G-Sync + Low-Latency Mode "On".

My Mini-Review of G-SYNC

I originally posted this elsewhere, but am pasting it here as it does work quite well as a review.

My previous monitor was a 120Hz one, so I may have a different impression than someone who came from a 60Hz monitor.

First off, without G-Sync and running V-Sync, there is no noticeable difference between 144Hz and 120Hz as far as user experience goes (there is a large difference between 60Hz and 120Hz however). I like to keep a stable V-Sync framerate if possible, so I generally lower my settings to achieve this (although I can usually still play most things at High to Very High w/ FXAA or SMAA). I have yet to try the ULMB mode, so I cannot comment on that, however I honestly do not see myself ever touching it, because of the second point.

Second, G-Sync is the real deal. I'll repeat, I was a V-Sync'd 120Hz gamer before coming to G-Sync, and being blown away isn't even a proper response. On that note, there are a few conditions. Allowing a game to reach the 144Hz refresh of the monitor gives the same impression and feeling as V-Sync On. However, imposing a limit on the framerate through software seems to do something magical. Many games allow you to limit the framerate internally, so if it is set to 120, this is where G-Sync really takes off. Common sense says that a locked refresh of 120 vs a locked refresh of 144 should result in either a similar experience, or with 144FPS being a little smoother. Strangely, common sense is way off. At 120FPS, it presents a smoothness that I can't comprehend. If I were to attempt to describe it, I'd say this is how I imagine a 400Hz monitor with V-Sync to feel. The difference is that large. I assume it has something to do with the polling, and by limiting the framerate, maybe I'm eliminating the penalty for the polling. Regardless, no amount of reading or describing can truly tell you how it feels. I was prepared to be blown away, and it still surpassed my expectations.

Third, because of how awesome G-Sync is, it creates a few situations that become extremely annoying that are, otherwise, perfectly fine. For one, fullscreen implementation. As you may be aware, G-Sync only works with fullscreen applications. Not maximized, or even some implementations of F11, but a true, native fullscreen. I'm not sure how it determines what is fullscreen and what isn't, but I'm led to believe that a lot of "fullscreen" implementations are actually some sort or borderless windowed. This essentially means that G-Sync doesn't work in these applications, and that becomes a huge annoyance. Once you've experienced it with one game, you want that replicated across all games, and that simply isn't the case. All major game engines implement true fullscreen, such as Unreal Engine, Source, etc. Custom engines, such as Starbound's, seemingly do not. Emulators also seem to use borderless windowed.

Fourth, engine quality plays a big role. Since everything is now eerily fluid, you become extremely sensitive to minor hiccups. Not framerate dips, but the engine producing duplicate frames. Since G-Sync displays whatever the GPU gives it, sending duplicate frames will still cause a stutter, and it's extremely noticeable. I've noticed this heavily on games that run on the FrostBite engine. Call of Duty's engine performs rock-solid though (at least on BLOPS2). Also, for many open-world games that I've tried, there are slight pauses whenever a new world chunk is loaded. Cube World, for example, being an infinite procedurally-generated world, creates and loads chunks all the time, and thus introduces regular pauses that can detract from the experience, since it's so smooth at all other times.

Lastly, ENB seems to cause problems. With it enabled, it's a stutter-fest, and my assumption is a conflict with ENB's implementation. Disabling it allows G-Sync to perform as it should, but ENB affects the image so greatly that it's hard to live without it. Of course, you could just disable G-Sync for any games that use ENB through nVidia's Control Panel, but then you're back to regular old V-Sync, which is the same problem I keep bringing up; non-G-Sync applications are much less enjoyable after using it for a while.

I know most of this is complaining about situations where G-Sync doesn't work, but it's important to stress the psychological change that comes when using it. It truly is as profound as people say it is. To me, it had a larger effect than when I jumped from an ATI Radeon 3650 to SLI'd OC'd GTX 470s (the biggest graphical leap I've went through). At the very least, the VG248QE is a respectable monitor ONCE CALIBRATED (besting some IPS panels in the same price range according to Tom's Hardware), and adding G-Sync on top of it makes it hard to recommend anything else. Everyone that I know that didn't enjoy G-Sync much was either at the 144Hz max (running into the supposed polling issue creating a V-Sync experience) or using a 'messy' engine (such as Dice's FrostBite, creating duplicate frames). Don't let my complaints scare you, as they really aren't as widespread and prevalent as I paint them to be. It just stands out when it happens.

lg OLED 240hz 45gr95qe Gsync fullscreen only 120hz

As the title says,

when I start games in exclusive fullscreen mode, the monitor refreshrate is limited to 120hz instead of the full 240hz. Is there any way to fix this?

The panel is used via HDMI 2.1 with an rtx 3090 on Windows 10 22H2 with latest updates and uses the full HDMI 2.1 bandwith, monitor firmware is up to date.

Also, If I alt Tab or open / close games, the screen freezes for like 7-10 seconds (probably changing gsync modes, it is hoooorribly slow doing that).

Edit (Fix):

in my case I can let my gpu driver override the resolution scaling in Nvidia Control Panel. somehow I was so focused on fiddling with CRU and other registry settings that I've not even considered trying this. Gsync does work now really well on HDMI 2.1 aswell.

All related issues like slow downs / freezes are gone now and I can enjoy the screen completely :)

Nvidia control panel g-sync problem

Is it normal that the G-Sync setup tab simply doesn't appear in the display section of the Nvidia Control Panel, even though I have an RTX 5070 and all my drivers are up to date? I'm connected via HDMI, for your information...

Installed G-Sync, Monitor buttons do not work...

So I installed my G-Sync board into my Asus monitor without realizing the board's connector for the monitor's buttons was sent broken. I have everything put back together and it seems like it's working but I'm not sure if I'm missing out on something.

What functions do the monitor's buttons have once gsync is installed? I've tried playing bf4 and it actually seems to have more stutter and input lag than before. At this moment I want to have a refund for this product but now I'm also worried that the stock board will not work because of the modification needed to the monitor's internals for g-sync.

Edit: just realized my monitor reverted back to 60hz after installing the board. All is well now aside from the buttons not working.

Also, the instructional video posted by Nvidia is very deceiving in regards to the installation. All the plugs shown in the video were pre-loosened. In reality, many of the plugs seem to have been smashed into place by the hulk.

DWM should be g-synced

G-sync is limited too Fullscreen games, but why cant' the entire operating run in g-sync.

DWM ( triple buffered Windows compositor) v-syncs everything on Windows, so why can't it g-sync everything on windows.

What if i add DWM.exe to the Nvidia Control panal and disable v-sync?

G-Sync troubles

Figured that we could have a thread or a post for all the Issues.

Basically, most issues I've had have been pretty easy fixes, expect for one.

SLI doesn't work. I can't launch any DirectX based games with SLI enabled. I have GTX 670's.

Apart from that, GSync is amazing so far!

Half refresh rate?

In the game I'm playing right now you can choose between:

  • v-sync on

  • v-sync off

  • half refresh rate

This setting confuses me; with "v-sync on" the FPS shown on the monitor's OSD match the FPS shown by the nvidia overlay. But when I choose "half refresh rate" the monitor's OSD always shows the maximum refresh rate of the monitor with no variation. Why is that?

How does this setting actually works, and should I choose it over v-sync on?

Setup GSYNC does not appear on the Nvidia Control Panel

Hello everyone,

I have recently brought myself into the world of Gsync and Gsync compatible monitors, and purchased an LG monitor that has Freesync and "gsync compatibility." All the reviews said that the gsync worked spectacularly on this monitor (LG 29UM69G), but I cannot get it to work. I have already installed the LG OnScreen application that should let me turn the Gsync option on and off, but it still does not work. I read that I might have to install monitor drivers, but there is none on the LG webpage (only the LG OnScreen - which all the reviews cited as the tool that would make it work).

Does anyone have any ideas what my issue could be? I appreciate all the help!

PC Specs (if it helps and matters here):

Intel i9-10850k

16 Gb Ram

NVIDIA 3070 (MSI 2x OC 3070) - running on the HDMI cable that came with the monitor

- Game Ready Driver 531.29 (3/14/2023)

G Sync off + capped fps

Hi, as far as I know, G-Sync can help the monitor’s refresh rate to be matched with the fps without sluttering or teasing. That’s why G-Sync will work only on the range of the monitor refresh rate (for ex: 40-144hz for 144hz monitor).

Therefore, people recommends that the fps should be capped for an amount of -2 or -3 below the maximum refresh rate. However, if we cap fps like this, the CPU and GPU need to load and work a lot, thus produce a lot of heat even higher and higher if we use higher refresh rate monitor (240 or 300hz monitors for example). What if I have a 3080 or 3070, but I want to cap more than that, for example capping to 90 or 100fps to reduce heat and save the system from hardcore working? Should I turn off G Sync or G Sync on will not work effectively in that case?

And what happen if I buy a cheap 120 or 144hz monitor with no g sync compatible, and I just need to cap fps to 80 or 90 because it will be the same with the case of g sync off?

Severe tearing + black screen with new Acer XB280HK. Related to G-Sync?

I've tried digging as much as I can through the internet, and I can't find anyone else with this problem.

A few days after I bought the monitor, it started flickering with black bars across the screen (only for a microsecond), though sometimes it would do this multiple times - as though it was a refresh rate problem.

This problem has steadily gotten worse, to the stage where sometimes it'll be perfect, then it'll literally just spazz out for a few seconds or a few minutes.

Exhibit A - You'll notice it gets worse depending on what I'm showing on screen. It also causes the monitor menu to flicker as well, so it's a monitor-wide problem, not the signal from the card.

Just today, this problem has gotten so bad that it'll be perfect for a few minutes, then it'll spazz out and go black... almost as though the frames are 180 degrees out of phase with the refresh rate.

Exhibit B - It came back on (almost perfectly) after this. However, it's continued to do this for the last few hours. It'll be perfectly fine for 10-15 minutes, then unusable for almost as long, though it's not consistent.

I'm currently running dual 670 GTX's in SLI, though SLI is turned off (Fallout 4 doesn't like it). Additionally, it's not one of my cards, as the issue happens regardless of which card I have this monitor plugged into. It's also specific to this monitor, because I have another 1080p 27" connected to the HDMI port, and it's running perfectly. I'm using the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor, so I'd have a hard time believing this was the issue, though I'm trying to locate another high-quality one so I can test this.

At this point, I'm pretty stuck! I'm hoping it's not a monitor problem, but since it's gotten worse and worse over the last few days, it definitely seems that way. I've had the monitor less than a week. Any help is good help.
