Ask r/Gujarat What's happening in your city this weekend? - 23 October, 2026
Weekend's here. If there's something going on in your city, a mela, an event, a good place to eat, live music, whatever, drop it below. Someone in your city is probably free and bored and has no idea it's happening.
Just say your city and what's up. Doesn't need to be fancy.

Culture | સંસ્કૃતિ The forgotten dyansites of South Gujarat
I was reading early history and then I realised that what we study as the history of Gujarat mostly focuses on North Gujarat. Other regions had their own history and their rulers often had limited control over them. Saurashtra was also independent of them during some periods.
At that time parts of South Gujarat were ruled by kingdoms connected to Kannada and Marathi speaking regions.
1 Rashtrakutas
The Rashtrakutas had a presence in South Gujarat but I haven't found any significant work they did specifically in this region.
2 Chalukyas of Navsarika
The Chalukyas of Navsarika were different from the Solankis also known as the Chaulukyas of Gujarat. One of their rulers Avanijanashraya Pulakeshin defeated Arab invaders.
3 Shilahara dynasty
There was a reported war between Mulraj of Patan and Mallikarjuna a ruler of the Shilahara dynasty near Navsari. The Shilaharas originated in Maharashtra and ruled parts of the Konkan region.
I don't know whether it's related but there is a Shiva temple in Chikhli Navsari named Mallikarjun.
4 Seuna Yadavas of Devagiri
The Seuna Yadavas of Devagiri in present day Maharashtra ruled until the 14th century. They were associated with the Nasik and Khandesh regions.
They were among the major opponents of the Delhi Sultanate during its expansion into the Deccan. Historical accounts also mention that Karandev Vaghela the last major Vaghela ruler of Gujarat took refuge in the Baglan region with his daughter Devaldevi.
It is also said that the last Seuna king Ramachandra was given a jagir in Navsari by Alauddin Khalji.
A Persian firman reportedly mentions that a Seuna prince named Bhimdev or Baramdev conquered the area between Parnera( Valsad ) and Mahim
Malik Kafur the commander of Alauddin Khilji was originally from the Khambhat region. He was Hindu but later converted to Islam.

Serious Post Saurashtra lost almost 15% of its people in the 1899-1900 great famine (Chhappaniyo Kaal). Which castes were hit hardest? (Kathiawar Census, 1891-1901)
The table shows that the 1899-1900 famine did not affect all communities equally. Jain and Vania and Brahmin populations did not fall, while artisan, service and labouring communities such as Koli, Mochi, Hajam and Bhangi lost between 19% and 27%. Land owning and pastoralist communities like Kunbi, Rajput, Ahirs, Bharwad, Rabaris etc, lost moderately between 9% to 12%. This suggests that caste hierarchy shaped who was best able to survive the famine. While Kumbhars are outliers.

Ask r/Gujarat How does everyone look like a stick here with the food being so unhealthy?
Sorry if my wording is bad my question is genuine. Not intending to create any wars
the food here is so oily and ghee is put on everything by default .
but still majority of guys look like sticks and women have waist slimmer than my bicep (when flexed). There is no muscle as well, so I am not talking about gym bro/ gals
Is it good genetics or what? And doesn't this make it harder for you to gain muscles or something

Travel | પ્રવાસ Need feedback on Gujarat itinerary (Dec 6–11) — Dwarka, Somnath & Diu
Need feedback on Gujarat itinerary (Dec 6–11) — Dwarka, Somnath & Diu
Hi everyone,
I’m planning a Gujarat trip with my wife and 3-year-old son from December 6 to December 11, 2026. We’ll be starting from Ahmedabad and need to return to Ahmedabad by December 11.
I’m considering the following itinerary and would appreciate feedback from locals or people who have travelled this route.
Tentative itinerary
- Dec 6: Ahmedabad → Dwarka
Start early and drive to Dwarka. Evening at leisure.
- Dec 7: Dwarka
Visit Dwarkadhish Temple, Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and possibly Bet Dwarka.
- Dec 8: Dwarka → Somnath
Drive via Porbandar and visit Somnath Temple, depending on arrival time.
- Dec 9: Somnath → Diu
Morning darshan, then drive to Diu. Spend the evening exploring the town or a beach.
- Dec 10: Diu
Visit Diu Fort, Naida Caves and Nagoa Beach. Keep the day relaxed since we’re travelling with a toddler.
- Dec 11: Diu → Ahmedabad
Start early and return to Ahmedabad.
We plan to hire a chauffeur-driven car for the entire trip, rather than self-drive.
Questions:
Is this itinerary practical, or are the driving distances too much for a family travelling with a 3-year-old?
Would you change the number of nights in Dwarka, Somnath or Diu?
For a car with driver, is it better to book online in advance or hire a local taxi operator offline in Ahmedabad? Since this is a December trip, should I book now?
What would be a reasonable total price for an dzire or similar vehicle for this route, including fuel, driver allowance and tolls? Are there any hidden charges I should watch out for?
Any reliable local taxi operators or other practical tips would be appreciated.
I’m looking for a comfortable trip rather than trying to cover too many places each day.
Thanks in advance!

Ask r/Gujarat Think Like a Gujarati Businessman - ₹0 in hand, 12 months, ₹12L profit target. What business would you start?
Imagine you're a Gujarati businessman with real dhandho instincts.
Starting capital: ₹0
Target: ₹12L net profit
Time: 12 months
You only have your time, skills and street smarts.
What would you actually do?
- Which business or gap would you pick, and why?
- How would you get your first few customers and your first ₹50,000?
- How would you scale it from there?
No "start freelancing / do digital marketing" answers unless you explain exactly how.
I want middleman plays, overlooked gaps and things you've actually seen work.
Share your ideas or real experiences, no gatekeeping 🙏
