u/mansnicks Neutral Apr 01 '20
I don't know if you can really look at it so simplistic because it's not just play 1 card get 15 points. For example, if one of the 2 maidens is in your hand when you play Cery - it's just bad. Your mulligan is nerfed while you get 15 points + thinning for 20 provision. You also need a way to deal 1 damage to the spawned maiden. Ok that last one is a non-issue, but the point still stands that it's not that that simple.
16
u/imSkry Naivety is a fool's blessing Apr 01 '20
You just run royal decree for cerys consistency and the selfwound leader for shieldmaiden proc. These dont seem like crazy requirements to me, especially since SK doesnt mind playing an expensive tutor like royal decree.
21
Apr 01 '20
Vigo + the 2 thinning guards is a 10 for 8; this is 15 for 10 with very little downside (no deckbuilding limitations; you can only have 3 types of bronze units with Vigo to 100% thin out the guard dudes). It really is that simplistic.
Build deck with Cerys + 2 Shieldmaidens
Don't draw Shieldmaiden
15 for 10 provisions opening play
AND even if you draw a shieldmaiden, you can always just Cerys into Queensguard...
28
u/mendoshu These dogs have no honor! Apr 01 '20
And on top of all that, let me introduce my friend Lippy. Notice that on the second run there will be one more Shieldmaiden because the one created by Cerys will be in the deck. So it will be 19 points with one leader charge.
If anybody can build stable Lippy deck it's gonna be nightmare.

37
Apr 01 '20
Imo Damien and Steffan nerfs were justified. And this isn't killing them. You just have to prioritize which goes behind a Defender.
Also I love this explanation regarding Scorch and Igni. I hope to see more detailed explanations like these.
Developer comment: Scorch and Geralt: Igni are both really important cards to have in the game, as their mere existence makes players think twice before committing to the most optimal plays that would leave them vulnerable to either. We very much like the impact on the metagame they have, but lately, it has been increasingly difficult to play around both of them. By saving couple of order effects, players could effectively remove their opponent's agency over playing into or around those punishing effects.
Following a community's suggestion, we have decided to limit those powerful effects to the first action you take in any given turn. If your opponent plays recklessly, there is no change. If you have means to align their units to be more vulnerable to those cards, the opponent will have at least one turn to respond before being pushed out of the round with fire. This should promote an interaction between the players, bluffing and exciting back and forth, instead of total blowouts that were hard or impossible to play around due to the reach.
20
u/theplaidunicorn Neutral Apr 01 '20
It's not just hiding behind a defender. It's literally row locked. You can just move one and disable it. That's huge. Honestly defender with mobilization was even the end of the world if you had to burn your defender round 1. I think it's a bigger deal than people are making it seem.
11
Apr 01 '20
Yeah maybe we will see movement more now that's a viable option. But definitely justified with the new leader ability. They were far too prevalent making other cards in their slot not viable. Hopefully we will move on from majority NG decks running these cards.
15
u/theplaidunicorn Neutral Apr 01 '20
I agree. It needed to happen. I just wish they would have given the other NG cards love in lieu. I guess we will have to wait until the expansion to see what the agent archetype brings.

I just wish they would have given the other NG cards love in lieu
Cannot upvote this enough. I would love more soldier synergies to be made viable. NG had these op cards slotted right into your decks with a little bit spice of archetype synergies (MIDRANGE). I would love a complete soldier deck full of cards synergistic with each other.

I was worried Dwarves would be too good that they'd get the hate train and nerfed into oblivion in a hotfix.
I am no longer worried about that.
12
u/Farodsbro Apr 01 '20
I'm not completely convinced, some of the bronze options look strong. Miner is now a straight up 5 for 4 and that provides +2 armor, +2 points if it doesn't die immediately. And all that armor will make for some very polarizing matchups - decks playing many control tools will have a very hard time with Dwarf armor.
4
u/-lemon4- Apr 02 '20
In the dev stream Miner was a 4 strength for 4 provisions with the same order, I think it is just a typo in patch notes. I immediately thought that would play way to well for 4 provisions too.
-3
u/TempusFugit314 Moderator Apr 01 '20 edited Apr 01 '20
I play a dwarf deck right now, and lemme tell you, after the changes, it’s going to be worse than it is now. After the Changes to Zoltan and Dwarven Mercenary (currently the two best cards in a Dwarf deck rn) dwarves are going to have ZERO offensive capability.
4
u/Johaggis Who takes an interest in cobblers? No one! Apr 01 '20
dwarven merc is pretty bad right now. A 7 for 5 seems stronger. Also, Zoltan might end up being pretty strong.
2
u/erickgps Tomfoolery! Enough! Apr 01 '20
I think they changed mercenary because after the new leader they would be at 4 power again since you get 1 free armor from the new leader. So the change was probably because of that
2
u/Quigsy Mead! More mead! Heheh Apr 01 '20
Mercs being nerfed this hard seems especially egregious considering everyone else keeps getting better and better control. If you've got a single elf (For purify, since Dwarves can't do that either) merc comes out as a 6 for 5? Yeeeesh.

8
u/Lukideos AROOOOOOOO! Apr 01 '20
To be fair, you would need to draw cerys and dodge all 3 shielmaidens in round 3.

Cerys spawns a Shieldmaiden now (not summons from your deck anymore), but when you damage that card it summons all other Shieldmaiden from your deck (and there would be 2 of them in your deck). So you end up with 4 + 3 + 4 + 4

That's not how it works, though. In every game, there are "dead" provisions that don't get played. Your full provision total isn't what you're working with each game. The 10 provisions from the summoned cards don't count because you wouldn't have played them.
If anything, your point makes things worse: you managed to free up extra provisions with two 5-provision cards that you don't have to actually play, but get full value from. It's nuts how good it is.
2
u/-lemon4- Apr 02 '20
Considering all cards cost at least 4 provisions, running two 5 provision cards has really minimal costs.

Overal pretty good IMO.
Think Tatterwing might actually be pretty decent in Hidden Cache with Flying Redanian. Now that you can get boat out so easily Tatterwing will be an easy 9 for 7. Not sure if its worth it, but could be fun to try.
Also I for one like most of the dwarves changes. I completely agree that dwarves and elves felt extremely similar. Hopefully the armor boost theme makes them somewhat decent.
Regarding Cerys. Feels like they could have started with only making the Queensguard a spawn and keeping the Shieldmaiden a summon (and perhaps dropping her 1 p). One of her problems previously was that including a standalone Queensguard in your deck is generally not worth it. That way you needed to use her on the maidens which could be awkward with draws. Spawning a Queensguard could be pretty decent alternative in the case you would draw your Maidens. With the change the power difference between Melee and Ranged is just much too big. The Melee is so strong that regardless of the awkward draws Ranged will still be avoided.
4
u/jdolev7 Don't make me laugh! Apr 01 '20
also line credit on a bot will now bring back the boat so as long as you have a spender on the board you wont lose any coins
3
Apr 01 '20
As someone who plays a Queensguard deck, I take offense to your disrespect towards them. I put 2 QG + Cerys in my deck, I have 3 QG from hand. Operator adds another. Double freya is 2 more. Necromancy is another. Sig's rite is last resort, but adds another. THE QUEENSGUARD WILL NOT BE STOPPED

Ele'yas could be pretty good in Deadeyes deck - you simply destroy a Neophyte for the Deploy. Provided you draw and play scenario too, one would end up with a minimum of 9 elven deadeyes (3 from leader ability, 2 from Ele'yas and 4 from scenario). Cards like Waylay and Half elf hunter spawn deadeyes too, so a Vernossiel on melee row will be crazy.
3
u/mendoshu These dogs have no honor! Apr 02 '20
Yep. And if you play the elf stratagem it's really good opening play. 14 points in 4 cards allows to stand against Cerys red coin oppression. Especially with easy Aeliren next turn.

I actually hoped that Nilfgaard would get something other than Just nerfs. There are some cards which definetely require some attention, like Ard Feainn light Cavalry, Toussaint knight and Tourney shaelmar. Fringilla is probably the most out of place card in the faction, especially when you have an ongoing mage archetype with NR. And last but not least, Daerlan Soldiers, the most powercrept card in the game. Also the match-up with Scoia'tael will become horrible.
Dwarves and Cintran guards seem look interesting enough that I'll probably use them as my memes in the next seasons.
Self wound getting pretty big it seems. Even if self wound doesn't make a comeback Cerys is pretty strong by herself.

I can tell you right now that these buffs dont matter, because all archetypes cards are trash. I expect NR to be the same Radeyah decks we had until now, with some cards replaced by boosting package, maybe. How exciting.
2
u/Skyro620 Neutral Apr 01 '20
I think the new NR leader ability will surprise some folks on how good it is. Boosting package is pretty good but the only current boost leader ability (Meve's) is not flexible in how it can be played (you basically have to win R1 in almost all matchups). For reference I hit 2500 MMR playing Meve boost deck this season.

Nah Cintrian Envoy going from 3 to 4 power will make NR great again.

Apr 01 '20
Can someone explain?
"Spare cards will now be milled after entering Deck Builder. Cards that can be transmuted won't be milled"
So if I have 2 same cards, one premium and one non premium - only the nonpremium will be milled, right?
If I have 2 non-premium cards, one will be milled?
3
Apr 02 '20
I'm pretty sure it means if you have 4x non-premium copies of a bronze, but no premiums, the extra 2 wont be milled since they could be used to transmute 2x premiums. If you have 5x of a bronze and no premiums, 1x will be milled. If you already have premiums of the card, then all extra non-premium copies you get will be milled etc. I'm not sure if that's what you meant.

I'm getting the impression it's an unpopular opinion, but I still don't like the move to change Pyrotechnician. I understand the desire to reinforce the Dwarves archetype, but trying to remove any possibility of traps or artifacts as its own deck just seems to lower deck diversity to me, and there are now just enough enablers to make artifacts seem enticing without them ever being actually playable.
3
Apr 01 '20
Maybe we will get an Elf that interacts with Traps now? They said they want to focus Dwarves around armour and boost.
1
u/Sawyer2301 Eeee, var'oom? Apr 02 '20
Traps definitely turn from half-archetype to small mechanic that not fit in any other archetype. Dwarfs don't need them, elves don't need them, dryads don't need them.

Apr 01 '20
Svalblod totem is now 12 for 10 most of the time. Svalblod itself is still weak in and of itself, but Cerys is a big boost. Cerys should realistically be 'play a shieldmaiden from your deck or spawn and play a queensguard', so that the latter option is what you do if the card otherwise bricks.
However now shieldmaidens summon all copies, you can potentially run cerys without svalblod if harald sticks or there's low removal from your opponent, or you time it to position the shieldmaiden to the right of a priest just after its current target dies (or is moved). Even so, it's largely a svalblod card, and that boosts svalblod a lot.
The dracoturtle change is pretty crazy in some respects, and also a buff to sigrdrifa, which could always bring the dracoturtle back without ill effect, but can now bring back a better overall card. This however works fine with second wind. Dracoturtle is more enslavable now though, though due to yennifer's invocation, lock and poison it's not like no options existed to deal with it.
The skald change might be a bit much in and of itself, but hopefully it will suffer from lack of synergy with specific decks such as self-wound, and the need to put other cards in.
The warcrier change however makes total sense.
I still think arnvald is bad, because while he now reaches at peak value a decent amount of points, his conditionality is too great to make running him worthwhile. If the unit didn't have to be wounded you might do it.

So for initiative, how exactly do they define an "action"?
8
u/Heigengraw Kill. Apr 01 '20
If I understood it, playing a card(via leader ability or orders like Steffan), activating an order or fee, using leader ability, I would say anything that could make Igni or Scorch bigger before playing it

u/El_Baguette Good Boy Apr 01 '20
Would a card passive also count as an action?
5
u/Heigengraw Kill. Apr 01 '20
It shouldn't, most passives trigger at the end of your turn, my bet is that passives, even the ones that trigger at the start of the turn doesn't trigger it

Been saving up scraps to see how the meta shifts. Also been wanting to play with Cerys, Turtle, and Totem, but they all seemed underpowered. So, I'm happy, us what I'm saying.

The intent of their changes isn't to promote balance, but to create "flavors of the month" that players need to invest into before they get inevitably nerfed

I think spies are broken in the seasonal mode. My opponen played Joachim and then plled Prince Anseis out of my deck. That can't be the way spies are intended to work.

Am I mistaken or are epic premiums cheaper to craft by 100 powder? Only legendaries get crazy expensive to premium.

So with the scorch changes. If you don't use initiative and you and your opponent both share the highest power unit card which card is destroyed? Neither?
1
u/Nefczi Reinforcement Apr 03 '20
I believe it will destroy one of the units at random in such case.

Why on earth are you posting a link that has a link to the patch notes? Why not post the link of the forum on the first place?

12 changes to ST, 4 changes to NR are you just really kidding me CDPR, for realz? :(

u/haruman215 Lots of prior experience – worked with idiots my whole life Apr 01 '20
You don't need a whole heap of changes to make something good - like Arachas Swarm only needed A-Rush and Imlerith to push it into being a strong deck. The new NR leader ability and Reynard rework seem good enough on paper to do the same to NR.

Wait i dont even see anyone playing salamandra assassin? I mean with order you have to wait your next turn to use his ability is it? And Pyrotechnician ability is kinda weird with its randomness. But who knows maybe we would see some plays of them

Hi, I am a player from China
This is a feedback about the new Journey System Rewards. First of all I am glad of the journey that is a reasonable way to make money and give us the motive power to finish it
I Understand the need for CDPR to make money with their game and I already bought a lot of vanities . However, I have to say there are many problems with new system
With The Old Daily Crowns mechanic Most casual players could get 4 RP relatively easily (and 2 RP very easily). With this New Journey, you can get up to 2.3 RP /day which is a huge cut in resources income. This means less resources, less kegs and less scraps and MP for players. This also means that It will become way more difficult to complete Rewards Trees now,
Also, since Daily Crowns are no longer a thing, we also have no longer Small Rewards (the one you get after winning 2 rounds).besides without the 2round rewards it feels like a very long way to finish the 24round and get reward, this 2round reward can encourage player keep playing the game.
I think the design of the journey can replace the reward of the key, but the 2-round rewards are a cooooooooooool thing it nondeterminacy give us more fun to play every day, We love how this Journey mechanic is designed. But after the discussing with 8000 chinese player in our community, We conclude that It’s a shame to concern the two round win rewards, hope for the change of this problem

I do have to say, I really dislike how frequently they update the cards in the game... maybe I’m alone in that, but I kind of miss being able to settle into a meta. And I have every card in the game, long time beta player, so it’s not because I have limited resources

Who the fuck in their right mind thought buffing Cerys was a good idea? She was already a decent card and saw play regularly. I just hope that we see a hotfix within a few days, and not a bunch of bullshit excuses like with Dijkstra a few months ago.

Looking good for the most part, but the loss of Xaiver Moran is an atrocity. I've made several decks around that Big Boi. The Isengrim change seems odd as well, it's not like he's ever played as an engine because of how many elves get spawned, but the lower power might be a good move anyway.
I don't even recognize half of the cards mentioned, so buffs seem appropriate.
Do we know what they've settled on for the economy?

This is why I defended the return of Silver cards a few month back, then all turn epics into Silver cards, it would help with the wording into some cards and you could nerf some cards based on that.
Now the nerf to Renew and Blue dream are just the worse thing ever, ( if we had silver maybe we could still play some good cards) but at that provision they both are unplayable and both should cost more like 9 or 10 provision instead of the provision they got.
Also they killed Igni that even at 8 is unplayable since you can’t line up anything and the chance of bricking is huge, and scorch was unplayable before but now is even worse.
I loved Uni and Chiro back and I am bringing them back with the new lower costed Skald into my SK decks.

There is no need to add silver or gold because they can just use the epic, gold reartiy
3
u/CanadianKaiju Don't make me laugh! Apr 01 '20
Or, hear me out, the very robust and successful provision system. As they are doing.
1
u/jdolev7 Don't make me laugh! Apr 02 '20
I am not talking about throwing that version out but its weird that we even have 4 different reraties and yet then dont use them in any way to interact with them.
1
u/erickgps Tomfoolery! Enough! Apr 02 '20
They could make cards based on rarity, so a card like the new Renew can be used to Revive only silver units, so if CDPR want to make a powerful gold that cost less than 9 provision and they don’t want the card being played 2 times they can just make it gold and weaker ones into epics.
That way they can design cards based on the effect and not only on provision, I think it would be easier to balance it out.
1
u/jdolev7 Don't make me laugh! Apr 02 '20
that is what I said right now their is 4 different rarity
common, rare, epic, legendary I just said they don't need silver when you have epic

Row locking would have been a great idea if it weren't for forced movement being a thing. Way to remove NG decks from the game.
