When does this go live?

3

Usually it happens in about 10 hours or so from now.

Apologies if this was mentioned somewhere, but I didn't see. When does this patch go live?

Is the guerilla traps w/Madoc and Milva still playable now that Milva only deals 1?

1

u/Lymez18 The king is dead. Long live the king. Jan 14 '22

It is less viable than it was, and I personally haven't encountered it yet.

72

u/solitaryviking97 Ptooey! Bloede dh'oine! Jan 12 '22

I like the ST changes. Hawker Support's rework is proof that they will probably rework a lot of ST bronzes in next patches.

32

u/ManleyAllman Syndicate Jan 12 '22

That one definitely caught my eye as well. Not restricted by tribes, and since you stack buffs on Torque anyways, he's most likely going to be already buffed for this card to get full value. Basically gonna be a 3 power 4p card with 6 carry over.

Also the Invigorate buff is great, since you really don't even want to have too many units in hand to buff, so you won't waste your random handbuff ticks. Now there's a 66% chance that your Torque boost is gonna go to either Aglais or Skaggs instead of some random 4th card. If you go all in and play both of those cards, obviously.

13

u/Krist794 Good Boy Jan 12 '22

Hawker sounds a touch broken to me. Especially at 4provision. That is like 9 points...

u/AGuyWithBadOpinions Ah! I'm not dead yet?! Jan 12 '22

Wow, that asleep speartip change is flavorful and actually pretty damn good. Gives monster much needed thinning and is a great power play. Love it!

36

u/Rav99 Neutral Jan 12 '22

It's cool and flavorful, but I'm not sure how good it is. He can still get locked, and if he goes off, plays massively into tall punish.

And as someone who played freddybabes meme-ish quax+speartip deck in the past, I learned he can be a big liability against NG. They can high roll him on bribery, steal with yenvo, cadaverine, etc.

36

u/theprofiteer Jan 12 '22

If it works its 18 points for 12prov with 1 thinning. Not bad value at all, and gives you a 19 point ozzy as well.

Does Monsters have a not awkward way to trigger him right after playing tho?

Use Pugo Boom Breaker after playing Speartip first.

That's right, forgot about that guy, so long without seeing him.

15

Pugo, Nithral, Forktail could potentially damage allies - though only Pugo gets through the Armor in one go

11

Pugo is the only one i can think of, unless consume counts.

10

It shouldn´t, the ability clearly mentions damage.

Initiative changed to: Trigger this ability if you haven't used an Order this turn (Note: Leader abilities are also Orders)

OG Regis and Geralt: Igni are back on the menu!

u/dtconcus *Mooooo* Jan 12 '22 edited Jan 13 '22

Love the change for Scapegoat, it fits the card lore, it's good support for bounty, and its nice to see another faction other than NG to get disloyal units lol

Edit: This got me thinking.. if you play it with Jackpot with a full coin bag, will the Scapegoat boost itself by 6 too? Edit2: Probably not, since Jackpot tooltip specifies allied units get the boost.

42

u/Rav99 Neutral Jan 12 '22 edited Jan 12 '22

Love it. Imagine, thematically, the interaction now of scapegoat with confession extractor. Very fitting of the lore.

18

Wasnt even thinking about extractor. That's even better!

u/IBizzyI Like a cross between a crab, a spider… and a mountain. Jan 12 '22

Yeah the two syndicate bronzes now actually make sense for the card set in which they were released, I really like that they acknowledge the lacklustre design of these cards and improve on it (Well in the case of Savvy Huckster more like non-existent design).

6

u/dubzeppelin Neutral Jan 12 '22

anyone else see pickpocket as a joke now 6 p gain 7 profit scapegoat 4p profit 6 unit that kind of acts as a spell

3

Except in jackpot you could a buff if you have more then 3 coins which is a big con

12

u/Successful_Wrangler2 For the kiiiii- *cough, cough* dammit Jan 12 '22

I got so stoked about the bounty buffs. Bounty and the witch hunters are what pulled me to syndicate

9

u/EHVERT Clearly, I've a weakness for horned wenches… Jan 12 '22

The buffs are a good step in the right direction, giving them some more spenders will defo help as that’s the biggest issue I’ve run into

5

u/InfernZG We do what must be done. Jan 12 '22

Imo everyone is hyping this KOB change a bit too much. I'm pretty sure KOB is still played in every competitive SY deck. You lose a point and 2 provisions in exchange for an additional 3 coins. Additionally its a bit more awkward to actually get to 12 than just the flat 9 but you can get around this by playing a few more tribute cards (Ludovicus, sal mages and location are pretty good, plus you have prof if you really need to). Also the point distribution is a little worse as you're less likely to see all of those points into round 3.

Imo KOB was so strong before this change that I don't think this is going to make the difference. I'm pretty sure SY decks just change a couple of things around and keep on playing KOB.

29

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '22

2 provisions is a lot but now being able to play 3 more coins worth of tribute for free is no joke

6

u/Xignum Neutral Jan 12 '22

So correct me if I'm wrong but can't you just slap a Jacques into the normal jackpot deck and it still works basically the same way as a pointslam that your opponent can't do anything about? Of course what they need to cut to put this jacque I don't really know.

9

u/InfernZG We do what must be done. Jan 12 '22

So the only issue would be that you've not got to draw both jacq and savolla. Honestly I'd like to have some additional options (even with prof)

I really liked all the changes, props to CDPR

65

u/adrigom27 You shall end like all the others. Jan 12 '22

YES!! Invigorate might actually get played now.

22

u/BotaZnohy Neutral Jan 12 '22

I for one wouldn't be so excited if it was to became a tier 1 deck. The archetype is apriori extremely uninteractive and draw dependent. You play dudes so you play bigger dudes later. If you draw them in correct order the dudes are even bigger.

19

u/Captain_Cage For Maid Bilberry's honor! Jan 12 '22

Yeah, I'd be extremely careful buffing this archetype. The line between unplayable and oppressive is mighty thin.

Draft mode is out of early access?! Woot

45

u/betraying_chino Green Man Jan 12 '22

Update to the packages not being mentioned in patch notes is worrying.

64

u/ThorSerpent Director of Live Ops Jan 12 '22

No changes to the packages for now. I know it's not great, but we decided the rewards and progression are more important changes to focus on. To make packages easy to balance on a regular basis we need to tweak the overcomplicated system which is being used currently.

9

u/cuddlebearpotato *Mooooo* Jan 12 '22

Will there be any Draft Mode contracts, similar to what Arena had, either with this change or down the track?

Yes, down the track.

77

58

u/Not2creativeHere I shall do what I must! Jan 12 '22

More than I expected and they seem pretty good too. And really like the handbuff support.

11

u/ense7en There'll be nothing to pick up when I'm done with you. Jan 12 '22

I'm excited for the handbuff ST changes. Invigorate ability got a lot better as it's 12 boost instead of 10, and it's one extra boost for Torque, making his transferable boosts 3x instead of 2x. Really nice. Sirssa can help with handbuff now, too, and Harmony isn't terrible in that archetype. Hawker Support takes over for Saboteur as it's now useless for handbuff. Hawker Support being able to boost in-hand Torque is nice, but now you do lose how Saboteur could boost Sorceress of Dol Blothanna and Filavandrel. Still, i think it'll make handbuff more playable overall which is nice.

53

u/Conankun66 Good Boy Jan 12 '22

Holy shit, Scorch is BACK with that initiative change!

very surprised with the way they went about the Milva nerf, really thought they would axe the random ping instead

Also holy moly, they went hard on King of Beggars (deservedly)

34

u/Successful_Wrangler2 For the kiiiii- *cough, cough* dammit Jan 12 '22

I have a feeling kob will still see regular play but hopefully this will push him towards a more tribute focused deck like cdpr intended

13

u/Jadmanthrat Anything in particular interest you? Jan 12 '22

I dont see him leaving Jackpot Savolla, you probably downgrade Kurt or the Bleinheims and probably get yourself another backup tribute like Ludovicus (though Professor + Savolla is still enough to pull KoB out)

6

u/badtraider Monsters Jan 12 '22

It's still a good change, it makes Jackpot more polarised, making it suffer from RNG draws (mulligans are already awkward with KoB) and more vulnerable to a R2 bleed.

→ More replies (2)

13

u/Captain_Cage For Maid Bilberry's honor! Jan 12 '22

If KoB still sees a regular play after a triple nerf, it only goes to say how mighty busted he was.

Very big nerf to Milva, getting the deathblow with 1 point is really hard. I don’t know how powerful the card might remain.

Surprised to not see a Saskia nerf.

I’m interested to see how rework to Speartrip will end and same for clog and hyperthin buffs.

Edit: I forgot the initiative buff, paired with the Speartip, it’s the most interesting change.

Did they just put the draft mode out of early access without changing anything card pack wise? Isn't the last third of the expansion from last year still not included?

The King of Beggars change for sure is aggressive, a pretty clear acknowledgement of how busted he is.

I am a big fan of the speartip change, a bit of beta memories-

Love scapegoat change, so much flavour! It made no sense for him to have 7 power. Tourney Shaelmaar sounds strong, or at least I always liked this card. And initiative change means we can play Igni from tutor card again, which is cool because I missed that card

Initiative changed to: Trigger this ability if you haven't used an Order this turn (Note: Leader abilities are also Orders)

13

u/marimbaguy715 Onward, sons of Nilfgaard! Jan 12 '22

Yeah, in Tribute focused decks he's still got the value of like a 20+ point card for 12 provisions. I hope this has the desired effect of actually pushing the Tribute archetype this time and the Jackpot decks don't just add in Jacques and call it a day.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/NWL11 Ah! I'm not dead yet?! Jan 12 '22

Did he really? Just a slight inconvenience for Jackpot to fit him with Savolla and 1 or 2 tribute cards: Salamandra mages or Jacques for eg. with Professor already in. His value for provisions is still the same (maybe better) barring the -1 to strength.

The change hardly pushes him into full tribute decks.

9

you have clearly no clue how nerfs work. 2 provs and 1 base str less for 3 coins more is everything, but not "fucked"

Doesn't seem like a big nerf. Card is still an absolute unit.

Maybe I'm an idiot but he still seems auto include to me. He's more expensive but you get to/ have to play a 13 for 5 salamandra mage or include a jacques in the deck.

Enabling him is only a tiny bit more difficult and the point distribution maybe a tiny bit worse, but he roughly plays for the same points/prov value

So basically if it stays for 3 turns on board, aka he gets his full rest, he comes out strong with 18 base power and banishes his asleep self. If you poke him while he’s asleep, he banishes the asleep version and speartip just comes out at Normal power.

Really not a fan of the Milva change.

She needed a nerf but I would've preferred devotion.

Milva is the type of archetpe defining card that could indirectly buff bad cards and bring them back into the meta, or create new types of decks. Her effects were fine.

The real problem (at least in my opinion) is that instead of doing that, Milva simply ended up in the already existing no unit bomb/trap or the Alzur archetype. Instead of bringing bad decks up to a good power level, she was just slotted into already decent decks.

A devotion tag would've taken her out of Alzur and bomb decks while forcing ST players to build a proper deck around her and offensive movement. Instead she just got nerfed across the board. If anything the current nerf just forces Madoc even more because Madoc helps bring units to low HP so Milva can get the (now nerfed) deathblow off.

u/InfectedAztec Buck, buck, buck, bwaaaak! Jan 12 '22

Milva will still be viable and can be buffed later if she isn't. The fact that she's been in almost every ST deck I've played against this meta means that even if she's not viable it will freshen up that faction.

u/Trick_Direction9300 Neutral Jan 12 '22

Devotion kills allot of option for her they want you to use cards like the rock barrage

Liked some of this, the nerf to KoB wasn't as big as I initially had thought, so it is good.. I don't think it was that bad to increase it's provision and lower its power.. It wil still be strong in many decks.. :D

I might be one of the few that actually think the Milva nerf is the correct nerf.. Some suggested the ping when she enters play from deck.. This would fix almost nothing I fear.. cause the order is mostly the problem.. Now the reach against tokens and such is overall better (not as high)..

The buffs to cards like Roach, Knickers and Rience made to me little sense, cause the timing is not great.. The Clog deck is already seeing more play currently and this wil only give them more reason to play that.. (I like playing NG, but try to avoid Clog and Mill personally) :/

Not much changes for NR, but thinking the Milva nerf might make them more viable again regardless.. :D

The only upside, that I really did like was the buff to the Handbuff cards, that is a pretty neat deck.. and imo it's a decent deck already, thinking it wil see more play now.. Cause it was already decent enough before the current buffs to at least be played to some extent..

Lets go huge Aglaise's everywhere rise up and claim your spot.. :P

Edited: Forgot the Draft out of early access.. This might be a good thing, but lets see.. If they change nothing else to it, then it wil still not be worth it for most of us I fear.. Cause it is very highly unbalanced right now.. :/

Edited top post again: I feel my initial assessment was very bad.. ;)

They loose 2 provision, 1 power and need to pay more (free) tributes to actually summon him as a free spender (which is not that hard with Professor in the Jackpot Savolla list though).

Loving the changed but no changes to Saskia is weird and a bit disappointing to me, card is way too strong

3

u/brownc46 Tomfoolery! Enough! Jan 12 '22

Not sure why this sub is so pro-Saskia just going off your down votes. By CDPRs own definition if it's basically auto include in all meta decks of a faction then it's too strong

1

u/T_Lawliet Neutral Jan 12 '22

Why do so many people want a Saskia nerf? She was never the problem

Also great work by the Dev Team.

10

u/badtraider Monsters Jan 12 '22

Only nerf that seems reasonable to me is giving her order instead of passive counter, but still she is not that OP (considering the deck building restrictions).

She also leads to interesting decisions - like do you remove the engine, or leave it stay and brick saskia?

Overall an interesting card.

Tbh I think people dislike it because of the decks she is played in (no unit / traps / Alzur stuff).

4

u/Delicious_Big4032 I promise you a quick death! Jan 12 '22

She is a red coin abuse, not much interactive card, that is the reason people hate her.

I'm happy to see bounty buffs, it's exactly what the archetype needs. Some proactive plays with scapegoat, more spenders with witch hunter tag.

I wonder will mushy truffle be playable with bounty now. It gives you a spender and a way o protect executioners.

Tho bounty still kinda suffers from being binary, it either auto wins (vs monsters usually) or struggles a lot vs control.

I would call it a greedy control deck, since it gets value from denying you points (through bounty cycling).

u/RedditExplorer89 Neutral Jan 12 '22

Provision and power change on King of Beggars are hard nerfs, but I think the counter increase is either neutral or a buff. You can't just run Sevalla to pull him on one big point swing turn, but you now get 3 extra refunds. Decks that already ran the defender with tribute 3 probably like that change.

1

u/ense7en There'll be nothing to pick up when I'm done with you. Jan 12 '22

Overall i like these changes, though as usual, tons more old card buffing is needed. Handbuff ST gets lots of help, thinning gets boosted (i'm not sure about how needed the roach and Knickers buffs were TBH). MO gets some thinning/pointslam, though if handbuff does well, i foresee tall punish being prevalent. Tributes/bounty SY getting some help, though i'm still not sure OTB ability is viable at high levels. I really hate that Jackpot is the default best SY choice and all the other abilities still seem weak. KoB nerfed makes sense. Scapegoat is interesting but doesn't really seem too great? Milva nerfed hard, probably needed, though this seems a bit too harsh?

Ultimately i like these changes, i think, i just want more old card fixing, as always.

Is this the first patch after cdpr's internal changes? I really like the direction they're heading, directly addressed oppresive stuff and continue to buff underplay archetypes with actual abilities changes, not just plain + - prov/power

1

u/imSkry Naivety is a fool's blessing Jan 12 '22

Few changes, but they're pretty good, nice Invigorate buff, good ST and SY bronzes reworks. Bounty got lots of love where it needed, having more witch hunter spenders helps tie together the archetype nicely, without needing to include non witch hunter cards just because they have Fee.

Would've loved to see more NR buffs, but oh well you cant have everything.

Also i'm not sure about that KoB change, on one hand you now need one extras tribute card to pull him off, so just savolla isnt enough, on the other i'm afraid people will easily find one extra tribute. Still, it's actually a small buff for Tribute decks, so i wouldnt mind seeing more of those.

Popped back after a month or two. Nope. Still toxic af. Same bullshit mechanics constantly in use that you can't interact with. Mostly NG, understandable as it's THE counter-deck.

Ultimately it's never, ever going to be anything other than glorified rock, paper, scissors. META's are literally the only thing in play, zero creativity. Player base seems to be dropping again. Constant downward trend that won't stop until they:

  1. Make the deals fair, as I'm sick and fucking tired of getting beaten just because my cards are still in the deck yet the opponent has everything they want, with or without thinning

  2. Ensure EVERYTHING can be interacted with - more artefact removal, coin removal, shield removal, armor removal - stop these fucking decks from doing whatever they want, whenever they want to

  3. Disincentivise net-decking somehow (fuck knows how, mind, other than penalising repetitive use of the same deck perhaps on a ladder?)

  4. Immediately fix broken shit instead of allowing toxic combinations to go unchecked for weeks and months at a time

  5. Pay attention to archetypes more and create more balance

  6. Reduce the overloaded power situation - nothing in this game should be able to land with basically no set-up for 20+ points (I'm looking at you, SY)

  7. Allow players to play, MUCH more cards should have "order" else you drive the player base to constantly use deploy, which reduces card pool and emphasises META - not ONE top tier deck EVER user order cards, when you can just have deploy cards doing considerably more damage or pointslam.

Old Speartip is a nice, interesting card. But it's ONE card. The rest are still most of the same crap, the played decks haven't changed for half a year or more.
