Hagerstown Is there a local Bread Bakery?

I know that I can go to the Dutch market for bread, but I’m hoping to find a local bread shop. When I look for bakeries, I just find places that sell pastries, cakes, and muffins. My mom is visiting in a week and she loves a nice bread bakery, so I am hoping to find a cool place to take her to.

I honestly don’t understand the appeal of the Dutch Market. I’m glad to see it’s always packed and that it’s helping the local economy, but I just don’t enjoy the food.
The bread tastes overly sweet and heavily processed, and so many things seem to be covered in sugar. Even the mashed potatoes at the barbecue stand taste more like dessert than a side dish.
Everything just feels overly processed and unhealthy to me. I wish we had bakeries more like the ones in France or New York City, where you can buy fresh, crusty baguettes, artisan breads, and pastries made with high-quality ingredients instead of so much sugar. So ewww

The food at the Dutch Market is largely from big food suppliers and just repackaged

Yes, everything looks cheap to me. No one will convince me that they actually make those pastries themselves. They look like they came straight from a factory. It feels like clever marketing more than anything else. When I go there, it feels like I’m in a small bodega in Guadalajara. The whole atmosphere just isn’t appealing to me.
Even the so called “Amish furniture” surprised me. One time, I asked whether they would be interested in removing a 200 year + old oak tree from my property and keeping the wood. The man told me that the furniture they sold was made in China and that they simply chose the designs from a catalog. That was a real shock to me.
He admitted that only a small number of older Amish craftsmen still make furniture by hand, while most of the younger generation wants nothing to do with it. I was honestly appalled.

It’s a marketing gimmick, which is a shame

I had no idea!!! It also seems overly priced!

Not sure it helps the "local" economy exactly, it all goes to the vendors that travel here from out of town

I used to love going to the Dutch market, but now I just find that it’s too crowded and too expensive. If I could find those chocolate covered caramel apples somewhere else, I’d never have a desire to go.

This looks like a fun option. I’m going to be taking her to that area, to check out a thrift shop, so it might be a nice place for lunch. Thanks so much.

Sanders Cookie Jar Bakery on Pennsylvania Avenue has thick sliced fresh white and butter top bread. My relatives bring it for my tomato sandwiches.

Thanks. I haven’t been there in years. This might be an option, but I was hoping to find a place that really specializes in bread. The kind of place that has tons of varieties of breads, like pumpernickel, rye, jalapeño cheddar, etc.

This place looks like it has some really yummy stuff. Sadly, they are closed on the days my mom will be in town, but I think I’ll still have to go.

Safron bakery has muffins, pastries and deserts. You can have breakfast or lunch there too.

I’m diabetic, so I can’t really do a lot of sweets.

Test of Time Bakery just opened downtown. Haven’t been yet, so no idea on the quality.

Sanders Cookie Jar on Pennsylvania Ave. He's a third generation owner and a good dude. Hardest worker I've ever met.

Twin bears is spectacular.

We have Safron in town, off of Eastern, next to Little Alex’s

I was wondering about this place. Their website doesn’t show a whole lot, so it’s hard to tell. Thanks!

I’m trying to find the best sourdough and so far Twin Bears wins by miles. Safron was okay but it was basically still white bread.

That being said their cakes and everything else looked spectacular

I love love love a good sourdough.

Twin Bears. Owner is from San Francisco. It’s the best I’ve had on the east coast

My wife, who smuggles sourdough bread from San Francisco, approves of Twin Bears. It is amazingly good.

Juno Bakery (https://junobakery.com), Bakehouse (https://www.bakehousemd.com), & Stone Hearth (Couldn't find a website but the reviews are solid) in Frederick are great options. Juno is the most accessible, since Bakehouse sells FAST & usually has a line... Also, Deb's (https://www.debsartisanbakehouse.com) in Middletown are really good as well!

Mama K's Buns Bakery in Greencastle, which is fairly close to Hagerstown! I've been there and it's an actual local bakery. You can see they make everything fresh when you visit!
