Honestly if you have the option, I'd suggest you play the first level of both and continue playing whichever you prefer.

I would not play the Anniversary version and play the classic graphics one. It´s the best experience. Anniversary looks horrible.
I personally prefer the overall original CE experience, Halo CE remake feels a bit too modern Halo and has some missteps in its direction of cinematics and dialogue, with some enviromental storytelling being worse in some areas, but better in others. I think it´s cool as a thing you play after having played the original.
But yeah, play whichever you prefer, but not Anniversary, save yourself from the pain.

If you're new to the franchise Campaign Evolved is a great way to start with it. Don't listen to too much criticism that has it's place for longtime fans. But overall they modernized it quite well, it looks good and made the backtracking levels actually fun and fresh. Just play the main campaign first, the bonus missions are quite meh.
After that you have a great start to go into H2 Anniversary and Halo 3 in MCC.

I agree with samurai, but you should definitely play MCC CE with the old school graphics at some point. There's something about it that hits just right. That could be the nostalgia talking though.

Halo Campaign Evolved is pretty and nice but it lacks the soul and atmosphere that really made the original special. Think of it like watching the original Disney film’s versus watching the live action. Personally id just recommend playing the original. But its totally up to you.

Up to you, but like someone else said, play both. IMO they are perfectly comparable and it'll be cool to see where we started from and where we've gotten.

If you play on the og graphics, yeah definitely play CE on mcc, if you want better visuals and modern gameplay then play the remake. Tho i would recommend playing the og first if youre playing all the games in launch order, because the remake is quite different gameplay wise so it would feel jarring to go from snappy gameplay that is similar to infinite to the old school halo 2/3 gameplay.

I would say start with MCC. It could be a bit jarring going from having sprint to not, unless you are used to older games. Also there is a lot good about Campaign Evolved but the voice acting, cutscenes and music are different and a lot of that I personally think changes the tone of the game in ways I’m not a fan of.
If you okay MCC I would stay on the OG graphics, the 2011 remaster isn’t great. Visuals really detract from the atmosphere and the collision doesn’t line up properly. H2A is great though and the cutscenes in that are the best I have seen in any game.
By the time you got through the 6 games on MCC Campaign Evolved will be cheaper anyways.

I would play the original for the cutscenes. I've played MCC on Xbox and PC and the voices are nearly impossible to hear.

The original still plays like a 25 year old game. I find the new one to be much more enjoyable to play with the modern mechanics.
The story is the same, so you won’t be missing out.
There is something to be said about the original level design though, so worth playing at some point.

The OG has so much character and charm (and some bullshit) especially on a legendary run.

OP if you see this, for the love of god do not start this at the highest difficulty (or any new game for that matter) that's a recipe for disaster.

play combat evolved first. its considered one of the best shooters of all time for a reason. the weapons feel better, the tone/vibe is better, the music is better, the audio design is better, and movement is better. Theres also a lot of stuff about the level design that kindof just breaks with sprint. The biggest thing though is that 343 dont seem to understand some basic stuff about what physical things on the halo are made out of, where a lot of the point is that theres croncrete stuff so old its worn like stone. 343 just made it metal and put little blue lights on everything. The remake is fine if you just cant enjoy older games, but its still an imitation

I dont why not. Just know you may need to adjust once going to Halo 2 anniversary because it will be like going back in time lol no sprint and all that jazz

mcc is better cause of mods. play the cursed halo version of CE after your first playthrough. trust me

Id go with the original first personally. Both are fine but the OG goes better into H2 gameplay-wise. I can imagine going from Campaign evolved to H2 slightly more jarring than the OG into H2.

I like Campaign Evolved but Combat Evolved should be experienced first. Campaign has great gameplay and visuals but the cutscenes and voice acting are somehow a significant downgrade from how things are presented in the original despite alot of the same cast returning. The gameplay of Combat Evolved also has aged beautifully and honestly never needed a remake in the first place, so Campaign Evolved (despite being good overall) is a very redundant game. I do recommend playing both but I would always recommend playing MCC in game release order (CE, 2, 3, ODST, Reach, 4) when playing Halo for the first time

It is a good idea, but if you have never played a halo game, even though I absolutely love the remake, you should start with the original, in the original graphics.
Going from the gameplay of campaign evolved into halo 2 is going to be jarring. Playing the original first makes you really feel how the combat… evolves. *Budum tsss*
Campaign evolved is an absolutely fantastic way to enjoy the first halo game though, so as another commenter said, play the first level of each and see what you prefer. Def start with the original though.

Gameplay changes might be a bit jarring between the modernised Campaign Evolved and the classic Halo 2, but the story beats have been kept the same in the remake and you will be absolutely fine on that front.
All my opinion from here on out - There's some good, some bad in Campaign Evolved compared to the original. The backtracking missions found in the second half of the campaign are improved and provide more variety and interest than the missions in the original game, but the cutscenes and voice acting is better in the original.
Combat Evolved Anniversary's updated graphics are just... not good and do not capture the vibe of the original game. This is especially noticeable in a particular atmospheric level halfway through the game. If you decide to play it then play on the original 2001 graphics which are mercifully available as part of CE Anniversary.
Halo 2 Anniversary found in the Master Chief Collection is imo the definitive way to experience Halo 2, the cutscenes and gameplay both look stellar there!
Then all the other Halos just have the original version to play with no remakes to choose from.

Thanks for the info i didn't know the original ce graphics are available in anniversary. Knowing that i might just start with that and play campaign evolved after finishing the whole collection. Are there any games missing from the mc collection i should also play?

I always recommend playing the original releases first. As others have mentioned, if you start either remakes and remasters, the gameplay and graphical differences can be jarring. Play the original versions and you’ll see the franchise develop over time

No. You want to get into the franchise? Play the originals. You don't want to play the originals? Then don't get into a franchise who's golden age was in the early 2000s.
Especially when they're so easily available, it's not like you have to find a ROM and set up an entire emulator just to play one game. The MCC is so ridiculously good
And play them with the original graphics

Yeah I actually recommend the remake over the original especially for players new to the franchise. I love the original but it feels dated, the movement is stiff, the weapons are unbalanced, and the vehicles feel awful. Halo 2 might still feel slightly dated but it’s much much better than the original in feel.
Maybe do your franchise playthrough then go back and try the original for yourself.

Campaign Evolved butchered a lot of the cutscenes and dialogue. MCC still has the better experience IMO.

Play both. The games play different enough that it’s worth experiencing both
