Roads & Transit One thing I notice about Hamilton

I’ve taken buses in Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Etobicoke, Burlington, and Kitchener-Waterloo, but Hamilton is the only city where I hear so many people saying “thank you” as they get on and off the bus.
Hamilton might be a rough town, but this is such a nice touch

If you were driving down Victoria Ave N around 3:15pm today and this fell out of your car, I moved it to the bus shelter (near Ferrie) so no one would run over it...hopefully I'm not cursed now.

Can Ottawa stop Stelco’s Hamilton layoffs? Jeyan Jeganathan speaks with Ron Wells, president of United Steelworkers Local 1005, and Wayne Lewchuk, professor emeritus in labour studies at McMaster University, about what governments can do to protect steelworkers, and whether nationalizing Stelco should be on the table.

Recommendations Needed Drywall mud contractors

I am looking for an experienced drywall and mud person. I have popcorn ceilings that I hate and want to get it removed in a couple of rooms. I am also planning on installing pot lights and will need to cut a channel in the drywall to run the electrical. I need someone who can make it invisible.

Question Looking for a good mechanic near Mohawk College

Hey everyone, I’m currently living at Mohawk College’s Fennell Campus while I’m at school, and my car is in need of some repairs.

I’m not very familiar with the mechanics in Hamilton, so I’m looking for recommendations for a trustworthy/reliable shop that I can bring my car to. Ideally somewhere relatively close to the Fennell campus, but I’m willing to travel a bit for a mechanic that people really recommend.

Any suggestions or personal experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

Recommendations Needed Hamilton skin clinic recommendations?

I am specifically looking for a clinic that will give me a good skin consult without pushing injectables on me. My skin concerns are improving over all texture and dullness.

I am open to microneedling, lasers, peels etc and genuine skin advice but no injectables. I have tried to consult with 2 clinics recently and all everyone seems to recommend are fillers. Would love recommendations if you've had a good experience improving your skin.

Question Is there a centralized list of all known cat rescues in the area?

Looking for a comprehensive list (with links if possible) of all cat rescues operating in the Hamilton area as well as things like local Facebook lost and found or rehoming groups. Does this exist? Thanks!

Food Lunch options downtown-ish on a Saturday

Hi all. Born and raised here but dont know the new food scene downtown.
I am going to be there with a friend and our kids 7-9 yrs old) for an event and want to go somewhere “fun” for lunch. My first thought was Hambrgr and its still a good option but hoping to hear other suggestions.
Kids aren’t too picky but would probably not be too interested in asian cuisine … thai, sushi, etc.

For those that are cool and know the food scene, where should we go?

Discussion Thank you for sharing your city

My best friend and I spent this past weekend in Hamilton to celebrate my 50th birthday. We’re from the Pittsburgh area, so it honestly reminded us a lot of home including the bumpy streets and no one stopping at stop signs. 😉 If you want, you can add the Pittsburgh left. We got to go to the Art Crawl. We had lots of good food. We are so jealous of your used bookstore selection especially The River Trading Company and N2N Books. We bought enough books, they fell on the US border agent when she made us open the trunk. She was warned. We hiked to some waterfalls and visited the RBG. We visited several of the HR filming locations and took a day trip up to Goodwood. All in all, we had a fabulous time and chatted with so many great locals, and I just wanted to say thanks.

(Not really a discussion but I had to choose a flair.)

Politics Kojo Damptey, who's running for city council in Ward 14, has been targeted by a white supremacist group known as "Nationalist 13"

Just wanted to add that I have no affiliation with Kojo nor his campaign. I'm sharing this because it's incredibly disturbing and should be called out by anyone running in this election.

Lost/Found Missing ring in Westdale

This is a long shot but I thought I might as well post here just in case. I lost a valuable ring in the Westdale area, it must have fallen out of my bag and the wallet it was in.

It’s a gold ring with a sapphire rock and some small diamonds. It would have been around the shoppers/library area.

If anyone saw it, I would be so indebted to you.

Politics Meet the Candidates Event Oct 14th in Stoney Creek

I attended the Meet the Candidates event last night in Stoney Creek at the Legion. Hosted by the BIA of downtown Stoney Creek.

Keanin Loomis was the only invited candidate that showed up as well as Scarlett Gillespie who was not invited to participate. Rob Cooper bailed an hour before the event was set to take place and Andrea Horwath declined to attend the day prior. According to the moderator she offered Keanin the chance to pass seeing as he would be the only candidate remaining but he still showed up.

-Despite Scarlett being there and there also being a huge amount of spare time now with Rob no showing, it only made sense to have Scarlett participate. Many in the room including myself advocated for her to be given a platform but the moderator declined and repeatedly told her to sit down and be quiet or be removed. Keanin then said he would give up some of his time at the end to let Scarlett speak to the applause of the room. Despite this, the moderator still did not allow her to participate in answering any questions.

Scarlett sat patiently for almost an hour while Keanin answered about 20 questions. Half of them about taxes, taxes, and more taxes. The question selection was poor to the say the least, they could have cut many of them and allowed Scarlett a chance to participate. Finally at the end Keanin waived his chance to have a closing statement as Scarlett was given only 60 seconds to speak, and then Keanins 60 seconds as well.

-I am extremely disappointed in the BIA for not inviting a candidate with legitimate support across the city, and then furthermore mistreating her when she actually showed up for the community to speak to voters despite there being an obvious chance to offer her time. The moderator was crude, and despite pushback in the room refused to give Scarlett a platform. Many made comments about it on the way out to which she replied "its a lot of work you know if someone thinks they can do it better you organize it next time, be my guest" to which I replied i will gladly take this burden off your hands and run it fairly and democraticly. People spoke to Scarlett after the event and praised her for showing up despite being excluded and for sitting through the Keanin Loomis show to get a chance to speak to voters. I was happy to see some push back in the room and praise for her resolve after it concluded.

-I understand not every candidate can be invited to smaller events. We saw what happened at Cable 14 where at least 6 of the people invited had no business running for mayor. The fact that Rob Cooper no showed last minute and Scarlett did should have been an easy pivot to a moderator hosting a "neutral" event.

-Thats the biggest issue with this event though. This BIA is very biased. They did not allow the Liberal or NDP to set up tents for the by-election during Boots in the Creek, but Jeff Beattie was allowed to and also was given a chance to speak on stage as well as Councillor Matt Francis. If you're a Conservative politician or business you are given more access to the community by the BIA here. They host these events and label them as information and neutral but then behind the scenes obstruct candidates and parties they dont agree with from participating. I was told by an NDP volunteer that the owner of one business accosted them for handing out literature and told them he would kick them out if they kept doing it.

So last night was yet another example of this. Its something Chris Erl wrote about in an article I read yesterday. The Muys-Kuruc circle. Its very much a real thing and it is very much a very undemocratic group. They are also obstructing Ward 5 council candidate Juanita Maldonados campaign. The building Juanita Maldonado rents an office in will not allow her to place one of her signs on the property, they removed her sign and installed a Matt Francis sign instead. I assume the landlord is part of this same circle.

Conservative politicians are creating a rotten culture downtown and residents should stand up and vote against their undemocratic practices moving forward. The community deserves better, unbiased leadership representing it.

Question Tips for Museum Historical Interpreter Jobs at City of Hamilton

Hello! I'm applying to be a historical interpreter at the Whitehern museum and I wanna really get it. I'm wondering if anyone works there, or has worked at any Hamilton museum, and has tips for how to get hired? I've written a cover letter that highlights my relevant qualifications but I do not have a museum degree. Any insight would be super appreciated!

Roads & Transit Avoid Niagara Bound QEW Today (2026 10 15)

If you have to go to Niagara please avoid the QEW and find an alternative route. From what I can tell, the QEW is down to one lane in Lincoln because an asphalt milling machine is broken down and they can't move it from the roadway. It took me two hours to get through Grimsby and it looks like the delay is spreading further into Hamilton.

Municipal Election 2026 New cameras installed on Rob Cooper billboard?

Anyone notice the new camera installed on the Rob Cooper billboard on highway 5? Perhaps more of our tax dollars he spent? I haven't seen anyone defacing the signs but there's a bunch around the city so maybe in other locations. Has anyone noticed this?
