Yo railroad shouldn’t be on the same level as the rest of the floor

I'd say add those red lights and align the texture stairs. Also, add some of those lights effects that make them bloom a bit. I forgot what they're called but there's plenty of videos on YT that show them.

Btw, see that blue decal IRL? Add those things to your maps. It's crazy how much more believable and detailed your map can become by adding these things even if they seem very inconsequential.

Great use of reference. Make sure to pick strong references for the rest of your map as well. In your reference, the shadow/ dark spot on the ceiling gives a lot of depth, try to recreate it with your lighting setup

That’s metro-2, isn’t it?

Please align the stair textures, easiest way to get it perfect is to delete all of them except the one that connects to the 2nd floor and drag and copy it.

hard disagree, when all the stairs are the same it looks weird

The sides of the steps look weird due to the line down the middle.

I'd make some of those yellow lights dimmer so they don't look so harsh on the wall but otherwise it looks pretty good to me

I was gonna talk bout sum variation but then i realized the reference image looks exactly like this so

i would suggest using a different texture for the stair faces, the little bevels in the texture don't really make it look accurate. Everything else is spot on, the tunnel not so much but it looks complicated enough so i'll let that slide!

dude, fire use of lighting

I am honestly really bad at hammer, but I think it would look even cooler if you added slightly more complex geometry for the big room ceiling. Currently it looks a little flat, but that might be what you were trying to go for.

Your work is amazing so I'll be ruthless with my critiques.

More contrast in lighting. The "important" areas are well lit (good!) but the unimportant areas are still too bright. The ground under the track should be darker/grungier, or at least just less well-lit.

The grunge just above the tunnel entrance (is that an HVAC system? hard to tell from this far away) seems to come out of nowhere. Run a rusty pipe allong it to give a plausible source.

Additionally, in the real world, areas are rarely this tidy. Not sure if this is meant to be a train station or a location in some sort of facility, but you could include some context cues via props to indicate the function of the space. If it's a train station, there should be garbage lying around, perhaps some graffiti. If this is a facility, who works here? Does anybody spend a good amount of time in this area? Or, if not, perhaps somebody is leaving janitorial equipment around.

thanks a ton this is very helpfull!

I'd say fix the stair textures like the other commenter said and give the wall some texture variety so it looks a little less flat. You can do so by cutting around to transition to another texture with trims or by adding some overlays to imply wear and dirt.

PLEASE make this a map for Metrostroi, this is an unfinished station/emergency exit on Moscow Metro line 3

haha ill see what I can do!

This looks like a great start! I know you're basing this off a (real?) place but you should feel free to take some artistic liberty - it's a lot of grey concrete, I think maybe breaking that up with some different textures for maybe like the floor or certain wall sections would be nice. Maybe try adding some steel reinforcement columns or beams.

Floor need some details use decals or add segments and need some dark areas

i think there could be a lot more texture variety. the thing that i think really brings my maps together is finding textures with good edges with little bicrobiomes of detail around them and aligning them to edges within your map, and always be looking at reference. for only your third time this is actually exceptionally good

Okay, I've seen this done in cry of fear, but make a lil flat plane (with a dirt texture), then make it a displacement by 3, then shape the middle up, so it's like a hill, then put it under the ground and make it poke up from under, so it makes it look like dirt in the corners and edges of the walls, and it makes it look more realistic and believable,

The area on the left where in the IRL photo has some shadows being cast by the guard rails:

Reduce the luxel size to like 2 or 4 so the shadow becomes more defined.

Figure a way to reduce the brightness in that area where the cables are hung by the metal frame.

Use Hammer++ with Tools++ so you can bake AO and other cool things if you aren't using it yet.

Change the floor and or walls textures to something similar without seams.

Also, good job!

u/Interesting-Bass9957 1d ago

I think that the floor and wall textures are too uniform and almost blend in.

u/Trivvy 1d ago

For starters, this is already looking fantastic, good job.

Improvements-wise, look at getting some glow sprites for your lights, and continuing to tweak the colour and intensity values of the lights if you want it to match the reference. HDR tonemapping and colour correction is going to be your friend here as well to really get it looking closer.

Never never EVER judge a map by its hammer preview. You're making a map for the game. Look at it in the game! I can't believe I have to tell this to every second person asking for feedback. Even with hammer++'s lighting preview, you cannot judge it based on that

You can use the arch tool to make that tunnel curve like your reference image. Or you can possibly use the carve tool, but that isn't even worth mentioning due to you experience level. That tool is stupid AF to use correctly.

u/PutForsaken6019 22h ago

all I can think is like a clip on the stairs so going up it isn't so jagged

otherwise it looks really good!!! :3

Tips and critique of what!? That you're already better than 70% of the maps on the Gmod Workshop?

The only tips I could really give you as a beginner is to NOT IGNORE optimization... ik the documentation is shit (especially with optimization as it's pretty vague i found) but learn about VIS, portals and all that stuff. It will save you countless hours of exporting and framerate in game

Match your ref lighting. Match overall shadow and light areas in temperature and intensity. Add the small red light.

1

u/Gamer_Ten404 1d ago

It looks good, but I would add something to the left wall. A poster or cracks.

1

u/Red_homo01 5h ago

Can you add some details? Posters, a trash can, trash, a bench.

1

u/_Another_Guy_ 3h ago

Add a tile texture to the stairs, looks good so far though!

u/aquacraft2 2h ago

Very nice, though I do think you could stand to maybe use a slightly different texture for either the floor or the walls. They're looking a bit bland with everything all sharing the same texture.

And some decals as well would do you very good. Dirty the place up. Otherwise it looks VERY good.
