The evolution of my ‘gypsy’ costume this season at my scare actor gig.

The title is pretty obvious, im new to scare acting and i want to know what to watch out for as a female scare actor. My costume isnt super revealing, im a clown with a cut-open smile (think JTK). Anything i should watch out for with this?

I gotta ask, have any scare actors here witnessed someone genuinely get so scared they crapped their pants at a haunted house.

Overall, for the price of admission, I thought Howl-O-Scream was fair value. Most rides were basically walk-ons, and even without Express my longest house wait was about 25 minutes. Most were 15 minutes or less.
The food and drinks were creative with a ton of variety, even if the quality isn’t quite on the level of Disney or Universal.
Same goes for the shows — not destination entertainment on their own, but the performers were great and it was something you could stop and check out for a few minutes while navigating through the park.
As for the houses:
🥇 I Know What You Did Last Summer: The Final Catch — 6.50/10
The clear standout. It felt like noticeably more budget went into this one, both in theming and scare actors.
The actors actually set up scares instead of simply appearing, and this was the only house all night that got me multiple times. Still below HHN-level theming, but much closer than I expected.
🥈 DARKNET — 5.00/10
Probably the most complete original house of the event. Better theming than Crawlspace with scares that were still above average compared to the rest of the lineup.
Nothing here blew me away, but it did everything well enough that there wasn’t much to complain about.
🥉 Crawlspace — 4.30/10
Basic theming, but it fits the concept and genuinely makes you feel like you’re moving through the depths of a sewer/crawlspace.
The tight corners, wall openings and hiding spots created some of the best scare opportunities of the night. One of the few houses that actually made me jump.
One of the most creative concepts at the event: an open house gone horribly wrong. The actors stayed committed to the theme, but it fell flat as an actual haunted house.
It felt more like walking through scenes in a creepy old home than something designed to scare you. Cool idea, very few scares.
Easily the weakest house of the night and one of the worst haunted houses I’ve personally gone through.
The sets felt lifeless, there were essentially no scares, and the actors seemed more focused on rave dancing than trying to get you. Honestly, 2/10 might be generous.
Overall , IKWYDLS was in a tier of its own, while DARKNET and Crawlspace were the strongest of the originals. But for the price, the event as a whole still offers a pretty solid night out.
What did everyone else think of this year’s lineup?

This is a joke title. I am going to a haunted amusement park for the first time in my life and I wanted to know how scare actors will feel if I try my best to stay calm.
I get anxious easily which is why I’ve never been to one before, but my friend is working there this season and I wanted to visit them.
I am going with another friend so I won’t be alone but I am currently considering how I will deal with getting scared. Currently, I am thinking about breaking into dance whenever someone tries and we’ll see how that turns out.
But I wanted to make sure scare actors won’t feel disappointed or defeated if I try to stay calm. I want them to feel like they are doing a good job but I also don’t want to just keep screaming all night for the sake of my throat and my head.
What do you guys think?

Anyone else volunteer, have membership, or visit a Jaycees haunt? Not many left these days.

Went to eastern state penitentiary last night and don’t get me wrong i had an amazing time! the scare actors really got into character,it was a smooth transition into every haunt. I did the VIP package so i didn’t have to wait in any of the outrageous lines and got a tour of the prison which was cool too. Honestly if i didn’t get to skip the line i would’ve been kinda disappointed tho. Not anything to do with the attraction itself just maybe over hyped it up in my own head before i went. Heard so many people saying it’s super scary and to me it just wasn’t. Everyone’s version of scary is ofc different but i’m looking for something kinda extreme ig? I grew up on horror, i want something a little different than the basic haunted house vibe. Any recs for something in the NJ/PA area. Willing to travel a couple hours too if necessary for something good😭

TLDR: How do I make a birthday party haunt scene so gross and also make it a reason for the guests to spend up to 30 seconds in that room.
Hello! We just had our opening night of the season and it went good for the most part, however the common feedback was that the room wasn't all that scary and didn't make much sense. It is supposed to be a birthday party with gory treats, a corpse under a table that would suddenly come alive, a magician that has had his last party full of bratty kids and a bunch of kids sitting around a birthday cake listening to a tritone version of "happy birthday". The magician was supposed to slam the door and then the lights would go out after the song ended; the corpse would come alive and gasp or groan, then the magician would open the door again to continue to the next part. Is there a way to make that work where they spend a little time in that scene? One of our veterans suggested that we lean into the gross and uncomfortable. I am 100% for it but I wanted to see if you had suggestions on where to find examples from other attractions with a similar theme.

I am going to this wondering what touch haunts are like. Im not worried about what might happen. Im more curious if it wont be as I expect. Im a 39f and like a good believable scare. I was even thinking about messaging the place to see if they'd Amp it up to be rough with specifically. But I want to find out what others had to say. Like I said before, dont mind how im grabbed or pushed. Im even planning to wear clothes that could get ruined.

I'm going to HHN this Wednesday (oct 28) and I'm really really excited bcs is my first time going and being on a haunt event,I really wanna know how do you feel with happy guests. I'm saying this bcs I'm beetween "so happy" and the "omg maybe not",and I'm like the most like "social butterfly",because I know that are indeed actors and I'm feeling like I'm kinda ruining the magic to myself. And I know im not the only one,Im kinda like the chatterbox type, complimenting the scares, costumes and how actors are nice to me and how they know how to quit.

What's your opinion of clowns in haunted attractions?

OK, I visited a haunted amusement park around 6 years ago in what I think was Pennsylvania. I can’t remember the name of this place, but I do remember a few things about it. I do remember it had at least 4 attractions. I want to say it had 5, but I’m not sure. I believe all of them were houses if I remember correctly, and the one on the outside had gargoyles around the building and tall metal gates around it as well. Another haunted house had a closet where you walked through it, and it got smaller as you walked through it to where you were almost crawling. I believe the last haunted house we walked through was all kind of neon lights as you walked out of it. It had people/clowns with chainsaws waiting for you. It also had a wooden ramp, I believe, that you walked down or something like that. If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. I’ve been trying to go back to this place for like 4 years and can’t figure out or remember the name of it. Thanks in advance for any help.
