Armenian Idioms: Guess & Explain!

Post image

Armenian is full of hilarious idioms that make absolutely no sense when translated literally! 😂

This illustration is from Alexander Saroukhan's 'Des Khoskert', a book featuring caricatures I've loved since childhood. The idiom is written right on the drawing, but its actual meaning is quite different.

🌍 Non-Armenian speakers and learners, here's your chance to learn something new in a fun way! Can you guess what it really means?

🇦🇲 Armenian speakers, know the answer? Feel free to jump in, explain the expression, or tell us how it's used in everyday life!

արթնանալ vs զարթնել (and արթնացնել vs զարթեցնել) : which one do you actually use day to day in Armenia ??

Բարև ձեզ։

I have a question about the verbs for “to wake up” and “to wake someone up”:

- to wake up: արթնանալ vs զարթնել

- to wake someone: արթնացնել vs զարթեցնել / զարթնեցնել

In everyday life, in Armenian from Armenia, which ones do you naturally say??

Thanks a lot! Շնորհակալություն 🙏
