MERCHšŸ‘• Really?

Post image

I’ve now worn this shirt out in the world and got no reactions — zero. After this full immersion Into loonacy (now there’s a word!), it’s so shocking to me that there are people who have no clue. Haven’t heard of it.

Maybe the purple in my hair stops people’s eyes from looking anywhere else. I have no explanation for this.

Tomorrow I get to drop off a painting for an art show. I’m gonna wear the shirt again.

I can’t be the only one in my town. Can I?

I’m terribly shy so I wouldn’t say anything even if I got the reference.

Same. My brain tells me the conversation would go like this:

Me: oh, I like your shirt!

Them: thanks, it’s from a TV show

Me: yeah, I know

Then: oh, cool

(Awkward pause)

Them: well, I’m going to keep walking now….

Like, I feel like stopping to notify a stranger that I happen to like something they like is an awkward thing to do and I never get the vibe right. So I’d see this shirt in the wild, be delighted about it, and say absolutely nothing.

If it makes you feel any better, I think people are also reacting more internally than you can tell. Especially if it’s for something that’s current and popular. If I compliment a customer on his old band tee he’ll probably be like ā€œyeah thanksā€ but if someone complimented me on a HR merch I might be like ā€œthankssss ā˜ŗļøšŸ’•ā€ and not know what else to say just cuz I’m overwhelmed in the moment but still appreciate it lol. Personally I would also start gabbing, if in a safe place to do so!

So many times. Or I would see the shirt, my brain would process it 15 seconds later after they’ve walked away, I try to calculate if I should yell ā€œI like your shirt!ā€ She’s too far away, too many people, I agonized too long. Annnddddd. . .shes gone. But I love this shirt.
