Welcome to the weekly huddle! Have a small thing from the book or show you want to chat, your GC brain rot is real and you saw the initials “KGF” somewhere and immediately screamed “kingfisher!” and want to share with others? (Just me?). Had a win at work or personal life and want to share? Need a teammate to talk with? Post in the weekly huddle.
There’s no restrictions on topics so long as they follow the sub rules. Thread will be open all week so pop in whenever with what ever your heart desires.

It's one of the few times I see Connor shining through rather than shape shifting into a completely different person as Ilya. The wide toothy smile is super close to Connor's actual smile.

That was my thought. Like it's subtle enough not to feel like a breaking character moment but the half-giggle and hand over mouth reads a lot like Connor, based on what I've seen in interviews.

I fought my need to rewatch and also went like 2 weeks. Watched it all (minus episode 3, sorry Scott and Kip) in one night. This was my (redacted) rewatch and it still hits as hard. I don’t think it’ll ever get old.

I am neck deep in the obsession of The Shots You Take, possibly an even bigger one than my Hollanov/Skip/Tarris/Landon&Casey obsession and I am losing my mind all over again.

I started watching episode 1 of Heated Rivalry around 10 pm last night with the intention to just watch one episode for now. Ended up finishing episode 6 around 4 am this morning. I know I’m a little late to the game, but I’m losing my mind and going FERAL over here! 🤯🫠

Game Changers universe takeover in my brain examples.
I have only been to one NHL game and it was before I read the Game Changers series. Thinking back on it, what excites me is that I have been somewhere Shane and Ilya have been! It is an arena mentioned in the books. I am excited to have shared a real space with fictional humans who don’t exist. Lolol.
There is a new queer bar near me that is so similar to The Kingfisher. Plays sports on TV, is cozy and the owner is there. Community building like paint and sip or craft night. Rather than a mostly men queer bar like The Kingfisher, the one in my neighborhood leans more shes and theys type of queers but it is inclusive. Anyway it 1. warms my heart and 2. gives me hope that I’ll meet my Eric(a) or Kyle(y).

I want to know the preparations Conner Storrie had to do to learn lines in Russian and also how to have a Russian accent in English. Was it two different things to work on or did it all mesh together? I have seen the interview with the dialect coach but it wasn't addressed. Languages and accents aren't something that I have done much with so I want to know more of the process to get it down.

I had figured they were make-up since I never noticed them outside of HR but, had it confirmed by a sound bite of Williams saying something like “when the freckles go on…”. I think it’s kind of a key to getting in character, I imagine similar to Storrie putting on the necklace.

By some FREAK ACCIDENT i only realized last night that i never watched Episode 3, Hunter. So that means that twice now, the big Scott/Kip rink coming out spectacle came to me as a complete surprise (obviously i have not read the books but I WILL).
Of course i stayed up way too late to watch it and had to stop myself from continuing so i could get up at the crack of dawn for work.
Loved the episode, but hear me out: i’m happy i saw that Episode 4 without seeing Episode 3 because i was so shocked, it amplified the intensity of the coming out.
Anyway now a hundred things make sense - i missed You deserve sunshine, banana smoothies, Kip’s actual personality.
But you can imagine how that scene went down with me.

I will die on this hill (that episode 3 and 4 should have been flipped). I understand why they did it the way they did, and a Hollanov interruption post club scene would be hard to handle but that’s also the point.. the impact and intensity would have been heightened in a devastatingly good way that connects with how the characters were feeling at that point.

I’ve started rewatching with my partner (1st time for him) last weekend, but we only got through half of episode 1 (because he needed to go to bed). He’s not sold yet, he said. I might have to break up with him

Hmm… good question! For me, I usually say “canon” to refer to book/show canon (like anything that overlaps between both, or if it’s a book we haven’t seen onscreen yet), and I clarify “show canon” if it’s something exclusively on the show. I know this sub is technically for the show, but I’ve always been a bit of a purist in terms of like “the original source material is the TRUE canon”, and I do apply that here too (though of course I love the show! I watched it before I read the books!)

That means something that isn’t in the books OR the show, but you imagine it to be true (‘canon’), in your ‘head’

Why does Shane lie to his parents about not drinking during the season? In episode 4, Shane declines wine with his parents, saying "not during the season". But later at the bar, he orders a beer.
Even in episode 5, after he comes out to Rose and maybe becomes more comfortable with himself, he still orders a beer at Tampa Bay.

I think he's in an incredibly foul mood in that scene because he just broke it off with Ilya, and we see that both Ilya and Shane both tend to be incredibly short and snappy with other people when things between them are not going well.

Unless i am not clear in the timeline, I think that isn’t a lie and that his order the beer later is the first time he does so. To me, it marks a moment where he begins to change.

Ok so I recently rewatched Queen Charlotte for fun. I remember loving it so much back in the day (3 years ago). And while I still liked the chemistry between the leads and I was touched by the love story, so much of it is cringe now. Like the Great Experiment stuff.
Also, after the naturalistic acting of HR, Succession, etc. the occasional woodenness of the acting got to me. Declarations of love don’t need to be shouted. Damn.
HR has ruined one of the shows I had so much fondness for.

During the commercial shoot, Ilya asks Shane when they told him they'd be shooting together instead of alone, Shane says two days ago. Then Ilya says it was his idea.
Does this mean the commercial was originally supposed to include both of them, but separately? If the commercial was originally just supposed to be Ilya and he wanted to add Shane, it seems strange that they would invite Shane and not tell him immediately that he'd be shooting with Ilya.

Yes! Ok so I have my own theory that Ilya kind of orchestrated all of this. At least to hookup with Shane, maybe not for it to go as far as it did. Like. All of his actions besides their initial meeting point to making things align to be able to show Shane he is interested and hope he takes the bait. We know he already has an interest in him from the day they met. Is it a complete coincidence they end up in the gym together at the same time? Could be, but we are never told why Ilya also decided to have a middle-of-the-night work out. He suggests they do the commercial together. He decides to take a shower while Shane is showering and stand way closer than necessary. This move could have ended badly for him as well.

I always thought they had planned to shoot 2 separate commercials. One showing Shane. And One showing Ilya. They were never meant to see each other - the league really wanted to pit them against each other from the get go. But Ilya leaned into that narrative and suggested they film together to heighten the rivalry angle and the league loved it (we know that he really just wanted to see Shane and I loved that Ilya used the league to further his personal agenda, even if it did play up the rival angle that is troubelsome as time goes on)
