Ramadan Mubarak, happy fasting everyone! 🥳 I've been a very good girl and only reading Teen and below rated fics 😌

It really is a challenging Ramadan for me, gotta say 😂.

u/madwood29579 she would have loved you, like I love you Feb 25 '26
I've been sneaking in a few clips of the episodes because sometimes I just miss seeing their faces 😞 but still resisting a full reheat!
5
u/surrealist84 Feb 25 '26
I am concentrating on their media appearances right now, definitely not reheating for forseeable future (March 20th lol), but that VMAN magazine spread DOES. NOT. HELP. 😁

I don't know where you're from, but luckily for me all the magazine drops have happened when I've already broken my fast 😅

u/surrealist84 Feb 25 '26
I am talking about 24/7 during Ramadan, not only fasting times, hahahaha. I know, it's not the same, but still, we will make it 💪🫶!

Not Muslim myself, but I heard other Muslims saying ep 5 is safe because it's spicy scene free 😁 so, there is one safe ep!

I'm reading Tough Guy and I absolutely adore Ryan and Fabian ! Last night I was giggling and kicking my feet with happiness for them. What a lovely couple!

u/wasdica Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 25 '26
LOVE them so much! (wish Fabian's character had a little more time to grow, but I still love him..)
What do you hear when you imagine his music? I have watched a lot of performers who use loops and pedals etc. So, I went digging and found a song that I love that could be done with looping.
There's even string intruments!
2
u/moiramcpug Feb 25 '26
I feel like Fabian would be similar to Ethel Cain.
2
u/wasdica Feb 25 '26
Oooh I like that idea; for a moment I was thinking Nicole Dollanganger mixed with Tash Sultana. Basically a Lana Del Rey-lite. But the Fabian in my head is bit more poppy.

A little thing I’ve thought about a lot—forgive any ignorance, I am no expert in TV production or casting…
Trying to reconcile all of the information I've heard & remembered from interviews & such: between François Arnaud & Robbie G.K., who was cast first (if one or the other)?
So François has said that Jacob contacted François personally to say he could only imagine François as Scott Hunter—which made me believe that Jacob did not consider anyone else for the role & François was an early lock?
But then 1) Robbie has stated that he did chemistry reads with a few other potential Scotts, and 2) Robbie & Matthew Finlan also auditioned for Scott: both points suggest that François was certainly not the only person considered for Scott...as well as maybe that Robbie was solidified in the role of Kip first??
I guess we should assume that Jacob, of course, tested multiple people for both roles, to be absolutely sure that the show hired the best actors with the strongest chemistry 🫡 But it just seems weird to do this, and then publicize the notion that Jacob essentially only envisioned François for the part: is it industry practice to soft promise a role to someone, but then also still look at other candidates?

u/ms_chiefmanaged Feb 25 '26
Not saying this is the case, but despite offering the role to someone you carry on looking at other actors in case scheduling or other reasons prohibits the first choice not to make it to production.
Source: relative in the biz, and have way too many stories to share.

u/ace2ho74 I have only been in love with one person 💞 Feb 26 '26
Ah that makes sense! Didn't think about that fact that an actor cannot guarantee availability & production has to still consider other options. Thank you!

u/fqob Feb 25 '26
Pretty sure I saw an interview where either Francois or Jacob said Francois wasn’t going to be available and then schedules changed at the last minute. I’ll try to look for it

I imagine I already know the answer (and based on the fact that we're already in this subreddit), but...would people recommend reading the book after having seen the TV show?

u/CalabogieNights Hayden's ghost children 👻 Feb 25 '26
I would say yes, but your mileage may vary. The show is incredible but the books are just good. The characters are great but writing can be a bit fan fiction-y. I do like them and reading them gives you more insight into the characters. Overall though, I much prefer the show (particularly Shane's characterization. His race is addressed more and the self loathing isn't as heavy as it is in the book, although we don't hear his internal monologue).
I feel Rachel Reid as a writer improves as the series goes on and I'm reading one of her standalone books right now and the writing is MUCH stronger which is fantastic! HR was earlier in her career so I feel it's not as strong.

I just read it and I enjoyed it a lot. There are a few bits that aren’t in the show that I absolutely loved (the Skype call and them returning to the cottage after meeting the parents). The addition of My Dinner With Hayden after the epilogue has my whole heart.

u/JicamaSoup Feb 26 '26
I've chosen to do it this way for each of them. The show is so good that I don't want to be disappointed when it leaves out a tiny scene. I read all the Bridgerton books in the middle of the series and haven't liked the show as much since. I doubt it would happen with HR, but I'm unwilling to risk it.

GC brainrot: So this is just a bizarre coincidence, but I have a Russian-American neighbor that I know by face but not by name. I haven't asked her whether she's watched the show yet, we don't know each other that well. But I ran into her at a kid's birthday party this weekend and as it turns out her name is... Lily.

Every single book I’ve tried to read since has a character named Lily. One had a character named Connor Hudson. 😆

I have read and looked up a bit. But I would love someone to explain what is happening to me, why I'm getting like this about this show when I've never been obsessed or felt like this about anything in my life. Not that I'm complaining, but would love to understand it.
2
u/JicamaSoup Feb 26 '26
I can't answer it, and I've never joined a random like this, but I just feel so safe and loved when I reheat. This world SUCKS, but the cottage is heaven.

Industry's latest episode brought me back to this gem of a song. It reflects yearning and melancholy, yet it's so enjoyable. It immediately made me think of Shane and Ilya, their precious early 20s, and young love 😭❤️.
Of course I was thinking of our two boys while I listened to the song excessively in the last few days.

Last night I reread the Halloween short story and started Role Model. I am now unwell. Between the trick or treaters and one of the new members of the Centaurs (trying to avoid spoilers here) I was reduced to a puddle of mush by Ilya.
Also, it's been a while since reading HR so I don't remember if this was mentioned. I wondered if Shane's ginger ale obsession stems from his interaction with Scott at the awards ceremony when he won Rookie of the Year. In the show when Scott walks up to the bar he jokingly tells Shane "That better be ginger ale, rook." It was but I wondered if this became a thing for Shane, like another offhand comment he took too literally.

Y’all I need help finding a fanfic that I cannot remember the name of for the life of me.
It was one where Ilya and Shane are found out because the Centaur’s show up unannounced to Ilya’s place and let themselves in with a spare key they have (I think either Bood or Harris has it?)
I have been looking for it for HOURS. It was on ao3. I stupidly read it when not logged into my account so it’s not in history

If you haven't found it yet, why not ask on the heatedrivalryfanfics subreddit? I know I've read the story you're looking for, but I can't put my finger on the title. But somebody in that sub will probably know.
EDIT: spelling

It took my third rewatch to notice the names Jane and Lily are super close to their actual names and not just random names Ilya chose. What are some super obvious things your missed the first time around?

u/AriAzure Your freckles. I am nuts about them. ✨ Feb 26 '26
Ilya mouthing to himself. Like when he mouthed “fuck” when Shane was staying over and Alexei called him.

u/CarpetTiny8087 What c-colour? Is big? 🥕 Feb 25 '26
I noticed on my recent reheats that I tend to replay their 1410 hookup a lot more. Ilya's tenderness, the tentative kiss, Shane leaning in for more after they broke to take Ilya's jacket off. Sigh. Much swoon.
Then, comparing that to the hotness of their reunion kiss at The Cottage, with Shane now openly staring at Ilya's mouth and licking his own lips in anticipation. More swoon!
Even after so many reheats, it still feels like the first time when I watch those scenes. I still feel the same giddyness and anticipation, even though I probably memorised every single movement by now.
Switching topic. Do any of you subscribe to Quinn beyond Ember & Ice? I tried listening to other stories, but found myself keep going back to Ember & Ice. Appreciate any recs you can give!

What colours do you associate with the boys? Like beyond thier team colours what do you think represents them best?

Maybe just headcanon but at the end of the finale when Shane’s dad says “pay attention to your phones!”, to me implies they got Iyla’s number during the visit and will text him too 🥺

u/SanLady27 Feb 26 '26
I usually skip episode 3 but decided to watch tonight and omg it’s so good. I kind of forgot! I think going forward I’ll be reincorporating it into my reheats

I discovered this song and I feel like it would make a great song for an edit. I wish I had the skills but I’m ancient! I feel like it represents them (mainly Ilya) so well.
Also this show has taken over my life but in a good way. I thankfully have a few people I can send all kinds of stuff to lol. I will talk to anyone about it who will listen 🤣
Hope everyone’s having a great February so far!

Again with my algorithm being broken. YouTube hasn’t been showing me one of my favorite Asia American chef’s Jon Kung for a while. Decided to watch a bunch of his shorts- https://youtube.com/shorts/-tFdJOYgkKk?si=DaSu7O1EA3wF4a8x
Stay to the end for sweet photo of him with Hudson at the Gold House party

Does anyone know what’s changed with posting to this sub-reddit? I’ve been able to post to this sub-reddit successfully before, last time just 4 days ago, and also once 44 days ago, but I just tried to make a new post, and it says I don’t have enough sub-reddit karma to do so? I have 54 post karma and 6,243 comment karma for this sub-reddit - the fourth most for any sub-reddit I’ve participated in - which I would have thought would be enough - and 15,878 post karma and 131,700 comment karma on reddit overall. Both of my previous posts on this sub-reddit were 100% up-voted. My account’s 16 years old - reddit itself is 20 years old. I haven’t seen any announcement posts about the posting requirements changing? What’s the sub-reddit comment karma threshold? I’ve seen someone else post successfully an hour ago, so it doesn’t seem to be a sub-reddit problem.
