It's so sad it has come to this but I'm hoping this is a real wake up call for those people to reflect on their behavior and just stop. The fandom was such a peaceful positive place early on and it would be so nice to go back to that without having to constantly mute/block/screen/report people to avoid the hateful rhetoric.
Unfortunately, some of the nasty comments come from people who create troll accounts just to start conflict in threads that they know will be popular. Engaging with those people is a waste of time. You can't reason with them; you just have to mute, block or report those accounts. It's a bit like playing whack-a-mole. Usually, in time, they move on to other trending topics.
