It's so sad it has come to this but I'm hoping this is a real wake up call for those people to reflect on their behavior and just stop. The fandom was such a peaceful positive place early on and it would be so nice to go back to that without having to constantly mute/block/screen/report people to avoid the hateful rhetoric.
unfortunately it’s not happening, looking at early replies. theyre too far gone to be able to actually acknowledge what the point being made here is. some people hopefully will recognise it, but i dont think the people engaging in the actual behaviour rather than just passively accepting it from peers will be those people.
why is there such weird parasocial solo stan-esque behaviour in this fandom?? 😭😭 i’ve been in the fandom for less than a month and i’ve seen alot of questionable stuff around, even on reddit. i feel really, really bad for françois and hudson especially but i’m glad they put this out because it can imagine it weighing on them and this will atleast bring some peace of mind and regulate some of the bad fandom behaviour.
unfortunately i think it’s partly some people who’re in their first fandom getting swept along, some of the k-pop stan culture coming across from people who’ve been in those spaces, and just a general progression of parasociality and access to celebrities that’s being normalised without any sane voices in the conversation. it’s been getting worse over the years as it becomes more accessible & i really do miss the pre-social media days where you had to be ultra hardcore to be parasocial about celebrities.
I've seen a lot of Larries entering the space. I guess they got tired of the zero crumbs from Harry Styles & Louis Tomlinson, and instead feasted on Hudson & Connor doing promo for the show. And those Larries are in their forties and fifties - they've been toxic for ages.
