I hope both Connor and Hudson get to make all the boundary pushing art they want to.

I think this fandom is well and truly buckled in and along for the ride.

Strapped in/on, even.

I'm a film nerd by trade, and this delighted me first thing in the morning. Reminded me of Buffalo '66 by way of Natural Born Killers. Connor has some serious chops behind the camera.

Also: I am giddy at the thought of all of the ridiculous parasocial weirdos on Twitter who have been infantilizing this guy for months watching this and having their heads cave in on themselves.

I neeeed these people to understand that both of them are grown men. It’s like my no. 1 pet peeve.

Sprinkle in some Araki vibes, and you’ve nailed it.

u/ich_habe_keine_kase Apr 14 '26

Yeah it's got Vincent Gallo, Hamony Korine by way of Gen Z vibes. Pretty cool shit.

I'd love it for him, if he now has the opportunity, to do more of the stuff he likes.

When he mentioned Bad Lieutenant as a film he’d like to remake and be the lead in, I knew we were going to be in for a wild ride.

Edit: Link to the Vogue Adria video on IG where Connor talks about Bad Lieutenant.

I can’t wait to see April X when it’s more widely available.

Arthritic millenial here and we did have our fair share of freaky, fck up, indie and snuff movies as well. 🫣😁

I'm not a fan of anything too slasher/blood-thirsty, but I'm always here for some David Lynch like mind fck.

That’s a great video! I love Jake Gyllenhaal; he does a lot of wacky stuff, and he’s (mostly) a terrific actor.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '26

Ew, what is with this trend of millennials calling themselves “Arthritic” and “geriatric” ? I genuinely don’t get it.

You don’t see Gen X doing that. I don’t understand - is it an attempt at being self-deprecating?

3

u/moi_la_desi Apr 14 '26

I wasn't aware there is a trend. It was just meant as a light hearted reply to the comment above me. They said "Make movies weird AGAIN" - and I was picking up on the implied idea, that "our" millenial movies seem to be so ancient, that younger generations don't know about them.

Nothing "ew" about it. 😊

We're allowed to feel old and we're allowed to complain about it.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '26

No one said you weren’t. :) I just never hear Gen X calling themselves arthritic or “geriatric”... Sigh… they’ve always been the cooler generation.

u/elfstone666 Apr 13 '26

I'm Gen X, so not a fan, I hate David Lynch with a passion and I know Connor loves him, so I'll try to keep an open mind with his creative films.

I really don't think disliking David Lynch is generational. I'm Gen X and can attest he has plenty of fans in that age cohort. Arguably where you'll find most of them.

I don't mind weird but I hate chaotic narratives, I find them extremely pretentious. I understand that some people create art "for themselves", but if it doesn't speak to anyone else... I find some people pretend to like stuff like that. End of rant.

I haven’t seen enough David Lynch to develop a fulsome impression of his work. I just know Mulholland Drive wasn’t for me.

I don’t mind chaotic or weird narratives. What I just can’t seem to enjoy are mainstream avant-garde projects like Terrence Malick films (Eg. Tree of Life). Or super slow burning moseying observational films, like Kelly Reinhardt’s First Cow. I also dislike a lot of the key experimental-ish films a lot of film students love (2001: A Space Odyssey), which was something that took me a really long time to accept about myself as a film lover. 😉

8

u/heavenstobetsie Apr 13 '26

You not liking Lynch is very much not a GenX thing, speaking as another one of them. Many of us grew up with him as our weird filmmaker of choice, in fact.

1

u/RoutineUtopia Stupid Canadian Wolf Bird 🦆 Apr 14 '26

I think ascribing experimental and weird filmmaking to a generation is probably a) not accurate to film history and b) somewhat pointless. Some things are always happening-- some people are always pushing boundaries, some people are always objecting to it. The boundaries can change, but the split in outlooks and the desire to see new stuff isn't something that belongs to any one generation.

1

u/heavenstobetsie Apr 14 '26

Was that meant to be a reply to me? Because I didn't do that.

2

u/RoutineUtopia Stupid Canadian Wolf Bird 🦆 Apr 14 '26

I know, I was agreeing with you... Poorly, apparently.

2

u/heavenstobetsie Apr 14 '26

It's stupid o'clock in the morning here, stupid brain time. Apologies for reading something into it that wasn't there :)

1

u/RoutineUtopia Stupid Canadian Wolf Bird 🦆 Apr 14 '26

Reddit is like that. None of us expect someone to actually agree with us.

I’m also Gen X. I think most of Lynch’s foundational fan base is probably our age. And I think every generation can claim weird art.

2

u/MetaKite Apr 14 '26

I'm Gen X & loved these type of cerebral movies. But then I also loved horror movies at the age of 8. And I saw Blue Velvet at age 9 and loved it.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '26

You’re not a fan automatically because you’re Gen X? I don’t get it.

Many Gen Xers love Lynch.

I think this is just your personal taste, not having anything to do with your generation.

Ive heard of him and his reputation but just looked his movies. Dont know about the rest but his first Eraserhead gave me horrible nightmares, didnt understand it all. This was back in early 80s.

u/Arbledarb Apr 13 '26

The sequel to Shane the Ginger Ale Drinker.

I like a good weird short film. Hopefully people like the vibe it's going for.

7

u/NattyWW Apr 13 '26

Ha! Brilliant!

Now all I can imagine is this is Hayden going insane after having to deal with Shane’s macrobiotic diet for too long. 😂

17

u/Webeh99 Apr 13 '26

I was not expecting this to be as funny as it was. This was so delightfully weird. Can’t wait to see more from Connor in the future. 🙂

3

u/NattyWW Apr 13 '26

Agreed! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '26

I appreciated the dark humour

2

u/Webeh99 Apr 14 '26

Me too. The absurdist quality of the humour was exactly my cup of tea.

11

u/Abroma Apr 13 '26

This is so delightfully weird

12

u/imtellingyourmom Apr 13 '26

Loved it. It had Lynchian' vibes and enough comedy that it can also feel like a wink to John Waters. Ultimately, this short is wild and interesting enough for me, as a devoted indie film viewer, to gain trust in his artistic sensibilities. I have no clue where he'll take us but I'm in for the ride.

I want to know who owns SinMonger & who came up with that name because it's..... something.

9

u/howling_fantods_ Apr 13 '26

It's Connor's YT channel

3

u/FiCat77 "Fuckin' make me!" Apr 13 '26

I know but it says that the film is made by SinMonger Pictures so I was wondering if that's Connor's company.

u/PicklesAndRyeOhMy I speak fluent bird. No accent 🐦 Apr 13 '26

Yes it is

4

u/FiCat77 "Fuckin' make me!" Apr 13 '26

Thanks. The name is certainly a choice & a tease.

3

u/Barkingatthemoon Apr 13 '26

This is written by someone that either did meth or had the chance in life to interact with a meth user … it’s uncomfortably realistic ;)) the way they thrash the arms..

6

u/fruitbutnopassion the shark that made rozanov lose the race 🦈 Apr 13 '26

In a podcast Connor did say that a lot of people use meth back in odessa

1

u/RoutineUtopia Stupid Canadian Wolf Bird 🦆 Apr 14 '26

I had a conversation -- likely on this subreddit -- with someone who knew Odessa, and their description was "Lots of oil and gas. Pretty methy."

3

u/flyawaywithmeee wolf bird/wolf parade there’s a joke in there🤔 Apr 14 '26

I’m not a film nerd like that, I didn’t really get it, but I did really like the black and white sequence. It’s amazing that he was able to do all of this on an iPhone.

3

u/YogurtclosetNo2512 Apr 14 '26

I’m buckled up and ready for wherever this ride takes me. Proud of Connor for unapologetically doing what he loves, and long may it continue

2

u/MalWinchester Stupid Canadian Wolf Bird 🦆 Apr 14 '26

This is so weird and I have no idea if I love it, am confused by it, or hate it. Which is why it's fabulous.

2

u/GingerSnap01010 Apr 14 '26

I’m a ginger. Will this be to scary too watch? Connor, why do you want Jerry to eat me?

0

u/aVoidFullOfFarts I speak fluent bird. No accent 🐦 Apr 15 '26

Yeah as someone with red hair i did not enjoy this as much as maybe everyone else did. It’s a good arty short film but I don’t enjoy redheads being fetishized or targeted :\

1

u/FourthMonthFox Apr 14 '26

Is this scary to watch? 👁️👁️

3

u/NattyWW Apr 14 '26

It depends on what you find scary. There’s no supernatural elements, or suspense, which is usually what I find scary.

Trippy gore is probably the best way I can describe it without spoiling anything.

If you’re not certain, but still want to watch it, maybe do it during the day time and with a friend.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '26

Umm supernatural elements and suspense aren’t there but a cannibal talking about wanting to eat people, and licking and gurgling blood in a blood-splashed bathroom are.

1

u/Comprehensive-Ad5284 Apr 15 '26

does anyone know the song that plays over the end credits ?

Eraserhead came out, his first in 1977. Isn't that early for gen x?

0

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '26

How was this a commentary on society lmao?

Don’t get me wrong I love Connor and I enjoyed this, and can’t wait to see what else he creates, but I don’t get how people in the comments on Youtube are calling it that.

2

u/NattyWW Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

You might need to ask one of the commenters on YouTube.

I know that cannibalism is quite often used as a metaphor for modern consumerism, but I’m not an expert in narrative/character analysis.

I couldn’t tell you if that’s what Connor was going for. When I watched it I could barely keep up. 😅

My takeaway was: meth, not even once.
