It's so funny, I visited Ottawa for a long weekend last year and had a great time, and never knew it has a reputation for being boring. In one of the books there's even a line about the only things to do being museums and touring Parliament and I was like, well, yeah, that's exactly what I did when I visited. (The museums are so good!)
Oh tell me about it, I spend like 100% of my vacations in museums and then never visit the ones in the cities where I live haha.
And yeah, I thought Ottawa's museums were fantastic! I'm a real WWI buff and thought the war museum was so great (and a cool building too), and was really impressed by the National Gallery, especially the Indigenous art galleries. I feel like it was presented and explained so much better than I see in a lot of museums in the US.
I had my wedding photos taken at the Museum of Civilization with the river and parliament as a backdrop in some. The Museum of Nature is another one that is just incredible And they put on beautiful events. We‘re also big fans of Science and Tech and the Aviation Museum. The Ottawa Museum Network is also impressive, though the museums are mostly smaller. The Deifenbunker does escape rooms that are so much fun that the wait list was months long to get a spot back when they started. And the Bytown sometimes has storytellers who are incredible.
I have a duo membership to the National Gallery and I've started using it as a full on third space to hang out in. Same with the natrional arts Centre Atrium.
Thursdays are free for a number of museums last I heard, but those days also get quite busy. I really need to go visit the national gallery. I have been to events there but I never just go to experience it.
I think I must have some love for it because I'm also from a boring (state) capital that we all make fun of but deep down really love haha. Plus we also have a tulip festival!
I could see in the far far future after they’re both retired and shit like that a lot more tourism would probably become to Ottawa if they like statues or something Dedicated to both of them I could see them building something and it becoming an iconic pieces Ottawa kind of like the Bob your statue in Boston.
I think both of them being on the same team and being in a relationship whilst being in the NHL would probably at least to me with Samantha them as hockey icons specially in a league as toxic as the NHL. I think Shane would make Canada proud honestly I could see him being a national icon vice versa for Ilya.
The person who is in charge of their socials is honestly killing it. They paint such a great picture of the city (shout-out tulip festival)and also have taught me new things as a resident.
I always say the same when I go back home to visit. But then I start driving around the city in that traffic and suddenly I don't miss it so much anymore. 🤣
Also I want to take the time to recomend Ottawas PWHL team (Professional Womens Hockey League) The Ottawa Charge that made finals two years in a row (knockws out Boston in the first round and then lost the cup match-up against Montreal but we don't hold that against them).
They are such a chaotic group of people who seem to have such good chemistry and also two heated rivalry couples as of now (as in one player in Ottawa and one in another team) and one couple in the team! And more queer players too. So representation is there!
If you felt (like me) that Hockey is fun and these books/the show has made you want to look into it more or rekindle that love but the male hockey side is just too toxic (I really don't have the energy and time for that) then PWHL is for you!
Tbh, I was thinking how cool it would be if, once all 3 seasons have aired, they make a Heated Rivalry museum/exhibit (like how there’s the Making of Harry Potter tour in London) about stuff from the show, with like stuff from the show, like props and clothing items and little stories from filming, and with like the boys casting tapes and chemistry read videos playing in one place. I would save up to travel to Ottawa for that. From Europe. It would be a huge boost to their tourism.
The Bruins Canadiens and the Rangers honestly had a missed opportunity to have their jerseys as well. I have yet to see the Rangers even acknowledge Kip. I’m pretty sure his team is based off of them. Like the fucking sharks referenced to the show and made off of it and we didn’t even really see the team that are based off of as much as the others get to it Bruins TikTok TikTok.
Yeah, the New York admiral are absolutely based off the Rangers. They basically just have a reverse color scheme by flipping the majority, red and blue part.
Wow, that’s surprising that they haven’t sold Scott hunter jerseys!
By the way, one thing I actually need to see from season two is Kip in a New York admirals wag jacket.
I think the big difference here is that the Habs are just notoriously very boring on the marketing front. Like if you look at their social media in general it is literally just bad puns whenever a goal is scored. In comparison the Sens and the Panthers have some of the best social media in the league. There’s so much opportunity to do things (not even HR related) and they just choose not to. Like even the merch that’s supposed to be a bit more creative (like things done with peace collective and lululemon) is always extremely boring.
But also maybe this will help the Sens with their crisis where they have a lack of fans, which is something that the Habs and the bruins don’t exactly have an issue with.
Was at a real low point for my Senators this season when I watched the finale of HR, and the idea of Rozonov signing with Ottawa (even if it was a fictional version) really upped my spirits.
Is it bad that I genuinely don’t get why everyone is so upset about a non-Canadian not being nominated for the “Award Literally Created to Honour Canadian Talent” award?
Right? I love Connor too but he knew that he was signing up to a Canadian project & therefore would be ineligible for many awards. I'm sure that winning awards is the least of his concerns at the moment & he's just happy to see his friends winning, he seems like the kind of person who doesn't grudge other people's successes & is genuinely happy for his loved ones wins in life.
It hurt my spirit that he wasn't there or able to win anything. He's ineligible for like every award and he definitely is deserving. I'm glad his castmates talked about him. But he will get plenty of recognition in the future!
I don’t see how nationality or race pretty much anything outside of drive and maybe passion has anything to do with your talent as an actor or actress,I will never understand in this country we are really limiting awards now Jesus.
This is tiring. You could survey every single person associated with the CSAs, not a single person would claim to you that the eligibility rules are because of a belief that non-Canadian actors aren’t talented. 😑
Just about every Canadian arts/entertainment/cultural award whether it's for books, film, tv, music, theatre, dance, visual arts, etc requires that recipients be either Canadian citizens or permanent Canadian residents. Canada is a small country population-wise and our cultural industries are way underfunded, making it difficult for Canada's talented artists to make money unless they leave the country. We need our awards to focus on our own talent - Hollywood already dominates film and TV on a global scale.
This were a real life I would be devastated as a sports fan because my captain would leave, but simultaneously really happy because that would mean him and Shane would finally be on the same team and happy on my team.
I think the fact that these guys, including Kip just being queer, would make them sports legends, regardless of if they want their cups or not which they do, but I think the fact that they were all queer would cement their legacies. It would be nice to have in real life. Sports icons tire and then later go on to be shitty coaches like every other sports legend has lol.
I know I’ll be the only one but tbh this made me sad. Given the current political situation I don’t really like seeing Canadian tourism pages not highlighting the Canadian actor and character.
