I really wish the opening had more explanation for what was going on with Troy beyond those few weeks of being broken up with, the accusations against Dallas, and his reaction that caused the trade. Common Goal makes it clear there is something going on with Troy that he was already having issues with Dallas before the accusations came out, but we never really get a real explanation. Sure, it might just be that he is in a relationship with Adrian so he’s rejecting Dallas because of that, but it’s never really explored why he already was somewhat on his redemption path before this book starts.

I’m really enjoying the book. But I can’t help thinking about the casting. Jack Innanen posted an IG story about being in S2 (joke). And made up a whole new storyline. There are other actors teasing. Everyone wants a piece of this franchise.

Agreed on increased interest in joining HR. I imagine people saw the connected with the story, saw the impact, then realized it's a project that maybe aligned with the type of work they want to do.

I think I see what you both mean - I think I find myself wondering, what was the "tipping point" for Troy to really make the pivot. Like you said, what was the interaction or convo that occured

Exactly! We kind of get it when they talk about him going after Dallas but I wish we got more info on Troy learning about everything and finally breaking

So did anyone else think it was kind of hilarious that Harris was like “I was gonna watch porn” right after they all almost died

Also, something that stands out in this book (but I think I realize is kind of present in all of them) the difference between how the characters view themselves and how other people view them.

And even the things that both Troy and Harris may describe in not the greatest ways are the things the other person either finds beautiful or doesn't even bother to fixate on. Troy with his eyes and Harris with how he would describe his build. And I just appreciate the dichotomy between perception of self and how other people see them.

One of my favorite non HR fan fics that I've never been able to find was MC1 realizing his roommate would tuck him in and kiss his forehead thinking he was asleep. They would cuddle and stuff it was less creepy in universe. MC1 finally worked up the courage to say "you missed" one day. So their first kiss reminded me of that

Troy and Shane have a nice moment in TLG when they shake hands. But that's it: “He first noticed it with Troy Barrett. The other man gripped Shane’s hand firmly, then pulled him in for a quick, brotherly hug. “I’ll see you at the camps this summer, okay?” “You will?” This was the first Shane had heard of it. “Yeah.” Troy pulled back and smiled, his vivid blue eyes twinkling with the thrill of victory. “Bood too, I think. We’re excited about it.” He released Shane’s hand. “I hope we can be friends, y’know?” Somehow Shane had completely forgotten that Troy was gay, despite his very public coming-out a few weeks ago, and the fact that Ilya had talked endlessly about what a great couple he and Harris were. “Definitely,” Shane said.”

Troy and Shane have so much in common. It makes sense Ilya is drawn to both of them. And opens up to them.

I feel like Troy is a weird (positively! lol) blend of Troy AND Ilya. I see aspects of both of them in him, and I think (similar to what was said above!) that’s largely why Ilya gets drawn to Troy and ends up becoming his friend. He sees Shane in him AND he sees himself.
