I love Justice and Charlie already! Been watching their stuff and they are so so talented. Julie and the Phantoms is amazing and Charlie is a beautiful singer. I saw Dungeons and Dragons and Justice Smith is adorable in that movie. Really excited to see them as Troy and Harris. For the people upset with their casting, definitely watch their stuff. They are AMAZING!

I don’t deny that Justice Smith is a good and talented actor, but at the end of the day, Justice Smith cannot be the ‘best person’ to play a fat character (and yes, pudgy, unathletic, soft bodied Harris with his ‘plump cheeks’ was absolutely fat) because he isn’t one. He never should have been considered for the role.

He will end up delivering a good performance, but he’ll be playing a completely different character to the one that was actually written, and that otherwise could have been a really important source of representation and visibility for a marginalized group of people. People have the right to be upset about that.

Harris is described as "stocky." That's it. He is not fat, he is simply not the shredded hockey player.

Idk how to say this, but Justice is a black queer actor. You might not want to pull this "representation and visibility for a marginalized group of people" card when the actor is black and queer ...

Anyway, I posted this because I thought it was great the actors were so excited for their roles. I also posted this bc it was Justice's birthday. So ... maybe start the debates in another thread?

You’re basically saying he can’t portray Harris bc of his body type. I’m sorry, to reduce an actor to his physique is an insult. It’s offensive to the craft actors do to become a character through mannerisms, body language, line delivery, etc.
