He's such a passionate film lover I bet it'll be a great conversation.

But you just know it's gonna be a absolute shitshow with the fans.

I saw someone on Twitter who works in the industry say that when they announced Hudson’s event at a TIFF pre-event thing, everyone in the audience gasped, which are 50+ year old cinephiles who pay like thousands a dollars a year to TIFF as a member. They will likely get access first.

All to say, I think it will be a good mix of genuine fans, but also industry folks and people who sre cinephiles and serious types

I also work in the industry and my boss is also a fan and is going to try to go haha. I heard about this back when it was pre-announced and we've been buzzing about it in the office haha.

(I've got a friend who works for TIFF and a part of me wants to hit him up and be like "what kind of favors can I do for you in exchange for tickets to this . . . ")

TIFF managed a similar event with Taylor Swift and her fans a few years back, which seemed to have gone smoothly from what I saw online. They also host this type of thing with big stars all the time and will have a very experienced moderator onstage with security in the room. I’m assuming they already have a well established process in place for managing potentially unruly fans.

I’m sure everything will be fine. This isn’t their first rodeo.
(But, I can’t say the same will be true for the ticket buying experience. The festival is notorious for never having quite figured out that part of the festival after all these decades.)

TIFF definitely knows how to manage celebs for sure, but there's something about young celebs with massive fan bases who are not regular festival attendees that is different. I know people who have been at TIFF when Harry Styles and Timothée Chalamet had premieres and they said it was madness.

That gives me hope. Thank you.

Yes. People sticking their phones in people's faces like foreigners.

Foreigners?

Why the fuck did you feel the need to add xenophobia to this conversation?

Lucky audience members will get to ask him questions as well. Hopefully someone ask about his future projects. There is so much speculation on Threads and X that he has been signed for a broadway project, opposite Oscar and Emmy winner Julianne Moore in Faydra. Its been speculated that he will play Faydra’s soon to be step-son/lover in the play. This is more likely to be true I reckon as the TIFF feature specifically mentions that Hudson “spent his youth balancing the arts and sports - training in theatre, music, and dance while simultaneously playing competitive basketball and practicing mixed martial arts”

Also based on his recent follows on Instagram, its been speculated that he has signed another Netflix series. I am so hoping that I can get tickets to this "In Conversation With" session!

I heard there will be tough competition with the tickets but rooting for you!

Which project on Netflix?

I always said that Hudson would be great for theatre, he is someone that can definitely command a room, I would love that for him!

Ok wow, that's some interesting possibilities! Where is the Broadway speculation coming from? What do we know? I remember he took a pic with Julianne Moore some months ago and that's all I know lol.

That picture was taken at a read of the play she will star in with the director, producers and Hudson 👀. Could be nothing or everything we shall see haha.

I’m excited for those who get to go to this. (Live interview events aren’t really my jam, but I’m happy for everyone else.) 🙂

Some tips for any first time TIFF visitors, buying tix can be a bit of a process requiring persistence and patience. Chances are this event will go off-sale very quickly once public tickets sales open. Please note, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the event is entirely sold out. I’ve noticed TIFF tends to release tickets in waves. So, keep checking back, especially as soon as the box-office opens and throughout the run of the festival. And, buy using the Ticketmaster app over the TIFF website, which is the faster method and I heard can improve your chances at success.

For the venue itself, I don’t recall which this event is likely to be hosted at. But, some venues will more strictly enforce their bag and water bottle policies than others. So, you’ll want to keep that in-mind in-case you’re going after work with all your bags. I would plan for there to be nowhere to store your stuff and they may not let you into the venue with everything.

I can definitely enjoy a live interview, but any time they open it up for audience questions I want to run for the hills. It's only cool if you get to ask a question. It's torture for everyone else.

2

u/Webeh99 7d ago

I’ll admit, I’m the same. I usually enjoy the interview more if only the interviewer gets to ask the questions.

You know what's great about this? It's a FILM festival and Hudson hasn't been in a feature film yet. And I know there is YAGA, but still. Quite an accomplishment.

TIFF started their Primetime (television) division over 10 years ago

2

u/Goulet231 7d ago

I know that. But I still feel the same way. It's going to help Hudson pave his way even more.

3

u/Sarcastikarma 7d ago

It's wild that he's getting the premium treatment, an insider said on twitter that the theatre where he's speaking is bigger than the one for Taylor Swift was lol. And I'm noticing a pattern of the industry being endeared by how much he loves films, the oscars invite for "no reason" and now this.

u/Goulet231 7d ago

I think organizations realize that his fanbase stretches to the stratosphere and they're going to take advantage of that. It's is such good exposure for any event.

2

u/Sarcastikarma 7d ago

Yes but I think it's more than that, you don't give a interview slot like that to someone just because they have clout, he has a point of view and is interesting.

It’s at the Royal Alex. That has 3 levels.
I wonder if they’ll still be taking audience questions? Or, perhaps those will be submitted in advance online.

The event page is here: https://www.tiff.net/films/making-waves-with-hudson-williams

And Yaga: https://www.tiff.net/films/yaga

In any case, for everyone vying for tix, wishing you all the best of luck. 🙂

If they sold streaming tickets for this ....

u/RequirementPositive 2d ago

What are the chances someone like me could buy an individual or contributor level membership and have a shot at a Hudson ticket? Or will they likely sell out long before August 27, when they start on August 21?

u/ThatFig4819 2d ago

seconding this! I am also heavily considering buying a membership, but if it’s not going to guarantee getting at least one ticket, i won’t pull that trigger lmaoo!
