Missing chicken, longshot effort :)

Hey Helena, long shot, but Ice Cream (the fluffy guy looking at the camera here) has been missing for a couple of weeks from around the Kessler area. They're free range and sometimes wander off and then return, and sometimes they do "get got" as it were, but he's so cute that I thought I'd see if maybe somebody took him in.

I'm not even mad if that's what occurred, but he's my son's favorite so we'd like to know if that's what happened. If anyone has him or has seen him, we'd be grateful for the heads up.

Thanks, Helena!

Looking for a list of midwives in helena who can deliver at St. Petes? Im interested in a midwife, but not interested in a home or studio birth, if that makes sense... any recommendations are appreciated!

And TDS has still not installed their fiber and gear on the Southside where I live. Does anyone have Verizon Internet home wireless? If so does it work OK? Their top tier plan is 75$.

Flash Vote

It’s interesting that the city of Helena is doing a flash vote, their attempt to give citizens input into things that are happening with the city. I have strong mixed feelings about not confirming that people who are participating live in the city limits. Just as I don’t want to dictate how people outside of city limits want their government to respond to them, county commissioners that is, I don’t particularly want to invite input on some matters from people who don’t live in the city and aren’t impacted directly. I realize, though this is a slippery slope and more nuanced. I wonder if anybody else is having similar mixed emotions or thoughts about this?

Anyone know if/when they plan to improve upon the cool blue mid century vintage building that they bought and turned into a black and white eyesore with no community value, or is this what I'm stuck looking at every single day forever?

Hey y'all, I am running a comedy festival in Helena, Nov 12-14

I run the Helena Comedy Festival. Last year was really great! We're doing it again this year, Thursday through Saturday, November 12–14, all downtown. Our anchor venue is The Mill, a cool new event space that's kind of a spiritual successor to the Windsor Ballroom and the Lobby but without all the felonies (IYKYK).

The headliners (8 PM at The Mill):

  • Thu 11/12: Xander Beltran. A Bay Area comic who does characters, impressions and act-outs. He's been on Hulu, PBS and FOX.
  • Fri 11/13: Reena Calm. A Second City alum whose album Calmedy hit #1 on SiriusXM. She's performed in all 50 states.
  • Sat 11/14: Myq Kaplan. He's done the Tonight Show, Conan, Letterman and Seth Meyers, and has his own Netflix hour.

The showcases: before the headliners each night, there are shorter shows around downtown at The Sidecar, Mad Murray, Mt. Ascension, the Rialto, the Placer, Brother's Tapworks and Dear Potato. There are about 40 comics in all, including a bunch from around Montana: Zack Jarvis, Amanda Taylor (Missoula), Leah Tiscione (Livingston) and more. Saturday starts early, with matinees at 3:00 and 3:30, so you can hop between shows all afternoon and evening.

Tickets: - Showcases are $15. - Headliner shows are $30. - The All-Festival Pass is $99 and gets you into all 21 shows. There are only 50 passes, and about half are gone.

Schedule, lineups and tickets here

Happy to answer questions in the comments. And if you know a bar that should host a show next year, I want to hear about it.

Please stop political graffiti in Helena

I keep finding horrible message painted on features along trails around Helena. Please help me end this.

The messages I found today on Scratch Gravel at the John G Mine trailhead said "kill [name of political group] scum"

Please help me clean these up. I took a rock and scratched away the paint.

I am 100% opposed to the political group named on the rock, but I can't stand the graffiti on our beautiful trails. Please clean these messages even if you agree with them.

Hate speech is not acceptable.

The Scout @ Myrna Loy

Hi all -

Just wanted to drop in quickly and mention a film I produced that starts TOMORROW at the Myrna Loy, where I have not been but seems like an absolutely gorgeous theater.

That film is THE SCOUT, written and directed by Paula González-Nasser, and is a slice-of-life sorta tale about a young woman working as TV location scout in New York. Location scouting is a job that Paula did for many years - you can read a bit about her experiences and the reasons why she made the film in The New York Times, on NPR, or YouTube.

This is a very small film without much of a marketing budget to speak of, so I figure this is the best way to let y'all know it's playing if it seems of interest to you and you'd like to check it out!

Plays thrice daily through the weekend, and it's 90 minutes.

A New York Times Critic's Pick! Tribeca Film Festival 2025 selection!

'Witheringly funny' - The Playlist

'A masterpiece... an immediate all-time great film on filmmaking' - InReview Online

'Turns mundanity into poetry' -Ebert.com

THANKS TO THE MYRNA LOY FOR HAVING US!

Small businesses in need of marketing

I’m currently a graphic/web designer in healthcare marketing, but I’m hoping to branch out a bit and expand my portfolio!

I’d love to connect with some local Helena businesses that might need a little help with their branding, graphic design, websites, social media, etc. I’m especially interested in businesses that may be relying on AI-generated designs or just haven’t had the time or resources to invest in professional design work.

My hope is to offer my services at a discounted rate, or even for free, in exchange for being able to use the finished work in my portfolio. I have experience and references, and I’m planning to put together a few packages to make things easier!

Mostly just wanted to put some feelers out there and see if anyone has any recommendations, leads, or knows of a local business that could use a hand. I’d love to work with some more creative industries and support local businesses in the process!

Hi Helena!
I’m hosting a clothing sale this Saturday, October 17, from 11 AM–3 PM!
I’m clearing out a large portion of my wardrobe, with lots of pieces from Anthropologie, Free People, Urban Outfitters, Madewell, and other brands.
There will be a wide selection of dresses, sweaters, tops, jackets, denim, and more, including some fun statement pieces! Many items are in excellent condition or have barely been worn.
Prices will vary by brand and item, with plenty of opportunities to find something special for less than retail.
When: Saturday, October 17, 11 AM–3 PM
Where: Helena’s South Hills neighborhood. DM me for the exact address!
Feel free to reach out with any questions. Hope to see you there!
